Group: I don't like the new web forum. I can't access it from work, or from a shell account, and the interface is much too time consuming. It's a step backwards. I can manage threads and replies much more elegantly on the client end, with pine or mutt. Procmail helps me filter/sort all the mailing lists. I can easily archive useful messages, and grep for keywords months later. I can read and respond to messages off-line. The logical next step for a busy mailing list is nntp. News readers such as tin, rn, slrn make it easy to manage thousands of posts. The threading and scoring features of any decent news reader make it easy to keep track of what I'm interested in. I can search for authors and subjects I like, and again, I can archive what I need. (Deja and now Google make that even easier. Let THEM archive it). The web interface will be a mess when it comes up to volume. Can I use my own editor? Searching is slow (at least slower that greping a local file). I cannot access it at work, and even if I get around to opening up the firewall, I don't have an xterm and it doesn't work well with lynx. I can only ask why? These web forums are an answer in search of a problem. I subscribe to the list to provide support for jboss in the O-R mapping product the company I work for made. Web forums will make that all but impossible. Moving the jboss list to a web forum is like putting a teenager in diapers. The list grew out of a GUI a long time ago. kb -- Kenneth Bowen [EMAIL PROTECTED] /\ moc.xobop@newobk newoB htenneK http://www.pobox.com/~kbowen / \ newobk~/ten.xobop.www//:ptth Powered by Debian 2.2 | Mcq! / \ !qcM | 2.2 naibeD yb derewoP _______________________________________________ JBoss-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/jboss-user
