The current distributions include JMX 1.1, CVS HEAD (4.0) includes current development 
versions of JMX 1.2 and remoting.

Yes, you can either use JBoss with the 'minimal' configuration (JBoss microkernel) or 
you can download a standalone JMX library from Sourceforge.
