I don't know when this started happening, but I have noticed that loading any Java buffer creates lots of "Wrong type argument: integer-or-marker-p, nil" errors in the *Messages* buffer. While that doesn't halt loading of the buffer for me (which is what leaves the buffer marked modified), I believe the problem is the buffer fontification.
