As it is, information seems to go into a black hole and we have a broken user experience. This will result in many duplicate build requests when people manually kick off a build. We were discussing here all run objects to be searchable using queue id - that is stop using build id for run api. thats expensive, in memory caching works for small sized objects, here we are talking about cache that spans across all pipelines and their builds. So to call /pipelines/:id/runs/:id with queue id, someone has to know this id which is unique jenkins instance wide. There is also performance implication, unlike build id which has O(1) look up cost, queue id is not indexed and is expensive for lookups iteration. In our meeting on this with Kohsuke Kawaguchi we concluded not to use it as run id for these reasons. Without a permanent build id, we can't really represent queue item from RUN API. This was discussed with Kohsuke Kawaguchi to get a fix/improvement in the core to get a permanent build number attached to a queued item but its not happening in near future so a decision was made to represent queued items via Queue API: https://github.com/jenkinsci/blueocean-plugin/tree/master/blueocean-rest#queue-api. So till its fixed in the core, you have to make two calls, one to get queued items and another to get run items. [~ coervivek vivek ] Hey Vivek, would it be possible to have the REST API return all runs, including those that are QUEUED i.e. somehow merge the current API for getting runs with the API for getting the queued tasks. It could maybe be done as a search parameter e.g. {{filter=all}}, {{filter=queued}} or {{filter=running}} (the default ala today)?If we had the {{filter=all}} option (or similar), we could fix this issue and avoid having the UI making 2 rest calls.[~michaelneale] ^^^

I tested it and, as far as I can see, it's only an issue for non workflow jobs e.g. freestyle etc. As far as I can see, the lightweight task for Pipeline/Workflow jobs run immediately and so appear in the activity tab immediately and remain there even after a refresh because they are actually in a "RUNNING" state (ala the rest API). Freestyle jobs do behave a little odd in that they do end up in the queue and so appear as grey orb status in the activity (triggered by the SSE events) but disappear if you manually reload the page because they are not in a state of RUNNING and so are not returned by the rest API. This could be easily fixed by getting the "runs" REST API to also return "QUEUED" (pre "RUNNING") tasks associated with the Job/Pipeline. Afaik, the only thing that has been missing is the ability to get the queued items from the rest API and display them with running ones.
