You probably didn't create it under documents. Try going back into
word and go through the steps to create a new folder once again. This
time instead of creating another folder, back tab from the new folder
name and see where your folders are being placed when you creat them.
Once you know where the folder was created, cancel out of that
operation and go to wherever your new folder is.

I hope that's clear.

We don't know which operating system you're using. "My documents" suggests
XP. What I'm about to write refers to Windows 7, but if memory serves, it
also works in XP.

This is a simple operation, but hard to explain. If the other methods people
have suggested don't work for you, try this one:

Go back to your original plan, which was to go to documents and create a new
folder there.

Instead of pressing the applications key, press alt-f.

Then press w for "new."

When you land on "new," you'll notice it is followed by ellipses. This means
you need to press enter to proceed.

The first item JAWS verbalizes will be "Folder." Press enter to land on an
edit field.

Type in the desired name of the folder. Press enter.

The folder should appear the next time you open documents.

How to Rename an iOS Device in iTunes 12.3 for Windows Using Jaws for Windows 16.x or Later

2015-09-25 Thread Mark via Jfw
Hello Everyone,

After a recent thread, on the V iPhone's mailing list, in which I posted
that a person using a screen magnifier can rename an iOS device in iTunes
12.3 for Windows, I decided to determine how such a task may be performed
using a screen reader, in this case, Jaws for Windows version 16.

Before I begin, let me say that I successfully renamed several iOS devices
on three different PCs, including a Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10
computer all running iTunes 12.3 for Windows via Jaws 16. No screen
magnifier was installed on any of these computers.

Simply stated, to rename an iOS device from within iTunes for Windows 12.3
via Jaws for Windows 16, do the following:

NOTE 1:
You cannot rename an iOS device from within iTunes during a synchronization
session.

1.
With iTunes open and your iOS device attached, select the iOS device using
your preferred method. All things being equal, you will be placed in the
Device Summary view.

2.
Turn on the Jaws Touch Cursor.

NOTE 2:
It is not necessary to have a touch-screen enabled computer in order to use
the Jaws Touch Cursor.

3.
Using the arrow keys or a jump command, make sure you move focus to the
upper left corner of the display. If you are at the upper left corner of
the display, pressing the left arrow-key on your keyboard will cause a bump
sound indicating that you are at the upper left corner of the display.

4.
Tap the right arrow-key once, and Jaws will say, "iTunes."

5.
Tap the right arrow-key again and focus will land on the name of your
attached device. Jaws will say something like, "Mark's iPhone."

6.
Now, perform a Jaws left-mouse-click by using key combo Jaws-Key+8. An
audio feedback sound will be heard indicating that you have activated the
device name edit field. You may now use your arrow and alpha/numeric keys
to hear/edit the text in this field. When you're finished editing, simply
press the Enter Key, on your keyboard.

7.
Should you wish, you may now switch back to the Jaws PC cursor.

That's all there is to it.

Happy Renaming.

Mark

It sounds like you're talking about text selection in MS Word. If you have
some text selected, and you want to unselect it, you hit an arrow key.
That's totally correct. But I have no idea what that would have to do with
creating folders.

I'm talking about file selection in Windows Explorer list view, or the File
Save dialog list view. This is where you would be creating a folder.

If you're in Windows Explorer list view, or the File Save dialog list view,
hitting up or down arrow changes the selection, but something is still
selected. The only way I know to unselect an item in a list viewis to hit
CONTROL + SPACE, and after that, your context menu will have a New submenu,
so you can create a new folder.

Sorry for any mniscommunication.

RE: problem with creating a folder

2015-09-25 Thread Paul Martz via Jfw

You have activated the JAWS text analyzer.
to turn it off:
1. JAWSkey plus V
2. type TEXT
3. arrow to textanalyzer
4. space bar to turn analyzer off.
5. press enter then escape.

RE: problem with creating a folder

2015-09-25 Thread Adrian Spratt via Jfw
Paul,

In some menus, JAWS verbalizes either "open" or 'closed" against names of
folders that contain subfolders. If closed, pressing the right arrow will open
a list of the subfolders.

I'm guessing this is what Judith is referring to, suggesting how she would
navigate to the folder she wants.

But this is moot. She's solved her problem.

RE: problem with creating a folder

2015-09-25 Thread Adrian Spratt via Jfw
We don't know which operating system you're using. "My documents" suggests XP.
What I'm about to write refers to Windows 7, but if memory serves, it also
works in XP.

The first item JAWS verbalizes will be "Folder." Press enter to land on an edit
field.

Type in the desired name of the folder. Press enter.

The folder should appear the next time you open documents.

I think the problem you ran into was that you had something selected in the
list view. When something is selected in the list view, the context menu
does not contain a New submenu. You must unselect your current selection
with CONTROL + SPACE first, and then the New submenu will be available.

Here's some info about how I use the application key to create new folders.

You can always see your current location by hitting ALT + D to go to the
address window. INSERT + UP ARROW to read the contents, if necessary. Do
this to verify you're about to create the folder in the correct / desired
location.

SHIFT + TAB backwards from there to get to the list view (might be something
other than list view, depending on how you've customized it, but I think
list view is pretty common: It's the contents of your current location.

Hit CONTROL + SPACE until you hear it say "not selected". Then hit the
application key to bring up the context menu. Hit W for the New submenu, and
select Folder. You now have a new folder, and you're in edit mode on the
folder name. Type in the desired folder name, then press enter when done.

Good luck.

Re: Bug with temporary speech rate change?

2015-09-25 Thread Maria Campbell via Jfw
I have always noticed the rate change back to original rate when
switching between programs.
However, if you press the control plus windows and alt keys together
with the page up or page down keys you can quickly set your speech rate
on the fly.

On 9/25/2015 6:27 PM, Paul Martz via Jfw wrote:

Hi all. I'm using current JAWS v16. My question regards the ability to
temporarily change the speech rate with CONTROL + ALT + PageUp or PageDown.

I expected this setting to stick with the application while it was running.
In other words, if I set a slow rate in Outlook, but a fast rate in Internet
Explorer, then I should be able to switch between those two programs with
ALT + TAB and have either slow or fast speech depending on which program has
focus. If I exit the program and restart it, then I'd expect the speech rate
to be restored to the default. But while the program is running, I'd expect
the temporary speech rate setting to stay in effect, even after I switch
back to the program from somewhere else.

What I see instead: Switching away from a program then back to it with ALT +
TAB seems to cause JAWS to forget about the temporary speech rate setting
for that program. Text from the program is then read at the default speech
rate rather than my temporary setting. Note that I'm not exiting the
program. It's still running, I'm just changing focus with ALT+TAB away, then
back to the running program again. But JAWS seems to have forgotten the
temporary speech rate that I had set for that program.

If I'm not mistaken, it has been sticky for the program up until some
relatively recent JAWS update, and now I'm getting this new behavior where
JAWS forgets about the speech rate setting after switching away and back.
Has it always worked this way, and I'm somehow mistaken? Or is this a bug?

Accessing specific responses to a posting.

2015-09-25 Thread Justin Mc.devitt via Jfw
Hello Listmembers:

Some minutes ago, I was using the JAWS search command to search for specific
response entries to a message that had been posted to the list.

After arrowing down through the listings at the beginning of the digest, I
identified a number of responses to the query.

When I input the JAWS Find Command, the content specific to the first entry
was not presented. Rather than scrolling through anywhere from 30 to 50
entries per digest, (which includes the original message from the sender as
well as responses), I thought this might be an easier way to target the
entries that I want to read rather than using the down-arrow key.

Ultimately, is there a way to target and read specific responses to a
posting using the JAWS Find Command or some other command?

Best,

Justin McDevitt
