RE: jfw and laptops

1999-05-28 Thread Vince Tomassetti

Hi.

Does the Presareo model 1255 laptop have an ALT and CONTROL key on either
side of the space bar? Also, is the INSERT key easily found like on the
ThinkPad?

Thanks,
Vince.

I have long been a Thinkpad fan, and most of their models do work really
good with JFW, but I recently purchased a new laptop and ended up
purchasing a Compaq Presareo 333 MHZ machine with the AMD K6 3d chip. This
is te Presareo model 1255 laptop. It works great with JFW and every other
access package that I have thrown at it thus far, and I have almost all of
the speech packages, both Ruby and K1000, and Zoomtext level 2 all on it
and have no problems with any of them.

Price wise the Presareo was $500 cheaper than it would have been to get the
same speed system in an IBM Thinkpad, and that unit's processor was an
older Pentium 1 technology than the
K6 /2 which compairs to the Pentium 2 processor.

There is a newer model 1270 that is a 350 mhz model that is just like my
1255 and costs about $400 more, but that was the model that I originally
purchased and there were problems with that system not being able to find
any memory above 32 meg at that time at the first week of April of this
year. If you can find out that that problem has been solved then that
would be the model to get since it has a faster processor and is otherwise
exactly the same machine as the 1255, and it worked fine with JFW also.

RE: jfw and laptops

1999-05-26 Thread Vince Tomassetti

HI.

I like the ThinkPads for the simple reason that their keyboard layout is
similar to a full size keyboard without the number pad. Most importantly,
there is a Control and Alt key on either side of the space bar. This makes
using JFW and Windows keyboard commands easyer than having to deal with only
one Control or Alt key. Just my opinion.

Vince.

I have a Toshiba 2535 that works very well. I also had a Toshiba 730=Cdt
that worked fine, and I know the IBM ThinkPad works well, too. Hope this
helps.

programs the jawbone interface to naturallyspeaking usesthis and he says it
works, even in labeling sys tray icons. get the model without the DVD drive
and make sure it has a neomagic video card.

Re: JFW and Laptops

That sluggishness may be due to your hard drive(s) needing time to come up
to speed. To conserve power, the drive motors get shut down. In my Think
Pad BIOS, there are settings that control when the drives are stopped. When
my machine's on AC power, the drives are left running. Look for such
settings in your Toshiba.

Re: JFW and Laptops

1998-12-31 Thread Nancy Coffman

Hi everyone:

I am using a Toshiba Satelite laptop with JFW and Eliquence. I use it much
more than my desktop (which happens to be older). It does have a windows
start key. It only has the one alt key but I have not had difficulty
adapting to that. I enjoy using it.

Most of thw laptops now will come with Windows 98. I am still using Windows
95 on mine but have worked with a couple using Windows 98. The only problem
we have ever run into is that it can seem a little sluggish. The places we
have had the most trouble with that are in Windows Explorer and in
WorPerfect products. If anyone has an explanation for that, let me know.
It is also true with Dec Access 32.
