Not sure I want the last word, but thanks anyway...

I think the site docs need a few tweaks (Wiki change, developer docs etc), but I
should be able to do that before the weekend.

Otherwise, the unresolved issues seem to be either long-standing or relatively minor
(and it looks some can be closed anyway).

So I am +1 on doing a release (or at least a candidate release) this weekend.

Just my 1¢ on this discussion: shouldn't we, rather, be releasing more

I'm happy to start the process off, once we've decided where
to put the

updated pages...

If it is in someone's home directory, then they will
obviously have to do

all the updates, otherwise I think developers will already
be (or can be

made) a member of the necessary group to be able to update the JMeter
web-site - or at least that part of it.
I think I could do this in my home dir
(www.apache.org/~mkostrze/jmeter-manual) and upload the docs at least
once per week. The question is how to reference that location from the
main site. We could place it on the wiki, but it would be
better to do a
reference from the main website.

I can update the web-site to add a link - any suggestions as to where to put
it?

Thanks a lot!

I've updated the index page to include pointers to the versions in your home directory.
I rearranged the items slightly, but I think it is all still there.

The old index page is saved as index_old2.html in case it needs to be reverted.

OK, I made a script which:
- checks out jmeter cvs
- runs ant docs-all
- copies directories docs and printable_docs to
~mkostrze/public-html/jmeter-docs

The final location of the docs:

Nightly docs (user manual + extending + api)
http://www.apache.org/~mkostrze/jmeter-docs/docs/

Nightly docs (user manual + extending) printable version
http://www.apache.org/~mkostrze/jmeter-docs/printable_docs/

I'll be launching this script every day (more or less)

Well, I've read the "extending" docs and I've checked CVS log. The last
meaningful entry was from 2002, which is pretty old. I can't tell how much
outdated it is. If it does not suit to the nowadays sources, then +1 on Wiki.
If not - also +1 on Wiki :) but we should keep the "nightly extending" both
with "nightly user manual" and have the link to it somewhere on the web.

No. I don't think so. And cron jobs are not enabled for the casual user on
nagoya.

However, the documents don't change as frequently as the code, so it should
not be much of a problem to login and run a shell script every so often.

I think docs on the web site should be in sync with with the latest
stable release. Most users use stable releases - nightly builds are for
developers and other more interested people only. In my opinion The
updated docs synced with CVS HEAD should be in CVS only.

No - if the user picks up a nightly build, they get the updated manual as
part of the binary jar.
The documents need to reflwct the current release.

However, it might perhaps be worthwhile putting a copy of the latest
documents online *as well as* the current release.

Could add this to any of our home directories if we don't want to add it to
the Jmeter site.
