3000 threads is totally insane, there has to be something going wrong.
Step one - find out how many threads the jvm is actually using!
Step two - find out (as suggested) if the responses are real or they are errors
being sent back - or errors thrown because JMeter is not connecting etc.

I am load testing stunnel as a front end to a web server. The problem I have
is that the connection is dropping even though JMeter is set to keep-alive on
the http sampler. I was wondering if anyone knew if this was a JMeter issue –
IE it does not do http1.1 properly with SSL or
There was a problem with Authorization that was fixed in the current
nightly build.
Might be worth checking that to see if it works OK.
