Bob or Anyone Else Who Might Know, I'm reading the HTML in a local text file directly into a page JavaScript variable using reader.readAsText(buFile, "UTF-8"). When this process reads an html SMILES (e.g. C(=C\C)/C), it sure looks like the back slashes are automatically escaped for the
