Dear friends, Today,on the last day for 'thankfulness' in the calendar,I want to thank God for wanting us to be thankful. I used to think that all the rules that we are to follow according to the Bible and the Church are good for God and others.For example,when I don't steal,other people are happy that their belongings are safe plus God is at peace that all are being good. But now I am learning that those rules are for ME to be happy. And thankfulness is one of those rules.God is happy that we are grateful to Him and to others.Also,others are happy when we are grateful to them. As I began thanking the Lord for everything,I found a tremendous change taking place in me.For example,our maid had a bossy way of talking to me.This really used to bug me and I began to thank God for her manner of speaking.As I continued thanking Him,I began to realise that somehow all this is good for me(even though I don't yet know how) or else ,Jesus wouldn't allow such a thing to happen to me.Soon,though our maid continued talking the same way,I stopped feeling irritated.I was at peace. Similarly,at one time,my husband(Berly) and I took some time to thank God for all the sad and bad happenings in our life.By the time we finished thanking Him for all that we could remember,we found ourselves being healed of all those.The sad and bad things filled us withjoy. A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art. When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son. About a month later, just before Christmas, there was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands. He said, Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art. The young man held out this package. I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this. The father opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture. Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift. The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected. The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection. On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture? There was silence. Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one. But the auctioneer persisted. Will someone bid for this painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200? Another voice shouted angrily. We didn't come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Goghs, the Rembrandts. Get on with the real bids! But still the auctioneer continued. The son! The son! Who'll take the son? Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son. I'll give $10 for the painting. Being a poor man, it was all he could afford. We have $10, who will bid $20? Give it to him for $10. Let's see the masters. $10 is the bid, won't someone bid $20? The crowd was becoming angry. They didn't want the picture of the son. They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections. The auctioneer pounded the gavel. Going once, twice, SOLD for $10! A man sitting on the second row shouted, Now let's get on with the collection! The auctioneer laid down his gavel. I'm sorry, the auction is over. What about the paintings? I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will. I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings. The man who took the son gets everything! God gave His son 2,000 years ago to die on a cruel cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is: The son, the son, who'll take the son? Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything. FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, WHO SO EVER BELIEVETH, SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE... Hi Joynetters , To understand the importance and relevance of this parable we should understand its background ..and then we will realise how much heaven rejoices when we repent. The First Question we have to ask is ... What are those Ten Silver Coins..mentioned here... A Jewish woman during her wedding recieved from her parents a band of coins..( a kind of necklace made from gold or silver coins). This served 2 purposes, 1) It was used as jewellery and showed the status of the family.. Many Gold Coins means that she was from a very wealthy noble family. 2) It was her security just in case her husband dumped her or died without leaving her anything.. The woman mentioned here has only 10 silver coins , which means she is from a poor family..and that these 10 silver coins were all the security she had. and she is shown sweeping her own house searching for the lost coin which is so precious to her , she doesnt tell a servant to search but searches it herself... Since they were 10 coins in the necklace.. even one missing will be noticed and peopel will start questioning and suspecting ..Imagine the shame and loss she must be feeling.. This is what god feels when we stray away from him.. The great rejoicing shows how much each one of us is valued in the presence of god. Even though there are so many coins ( people ) in this world..God still searches personally for each one of us when we are lost.. and rejoices greatly when he has found us.. How fortunate we are to have a loving god like that.. Can we thank him right now for his unconditional and personal love.. Yes the doctor said., she's got eczema. But I didn't see any evidence of it. Oh, the doctor replied, it isn't on her arms. It's on her insides. It's in the mind. She has eczema of the soul. I never heard of that disease, the pastor remarked. And you won't find it on any list of diseases, the doctor stated, but that's what is wrong with her -eczema of the soul. The pastor asked how she got it and the doctor replied, This woman has a virulent, violent hatred for her sister. She feels that her sister defrauded her when they probated their father's will. She hasn't spoken to her sister for the past twenty years now. She is absolutely foul on the inside with her hate. A few days later the pastor asked the lady to stop by his office for a visit. He told her what the doctor said and concluded that if she wanted to get rid of her disease, she would have to get down on her knees and surrender her hatred, and to do this she would have to pray lovingly about her sister. She resisted. It was very difficult for her, but finally she turned to the cross and prayed, Jesus forgive me a sinner, and save me by your mercy, cleanse me and create in me a new heart. Gently, the pastor said, That isn't enough. Tell Jesus that you love your sister! And that was the hardest thing for her to say. But the day came not too long after when the two sisters walked down the aisle of the church, arm in arm. They had found forgiveness, healing and a new love for one another. CHINESE PRIEST ARRESTED, DETAINED STAMFORD, Connecticut, Feb 12, 03 (CWNews.com) - A Catholic priest of the underground Church in China has been arrested by the Communist government, according to a Catholic human rights group that monitors persecution of the Church in China. The US-based Cardinal Kung Foundation said Father Dong Yingmu, 37, was arrested this past Christmas in the Diocese of Baoding in Hebei province as he was on his way to celebrate Mass. He was held in a local jail for a month and then sent to prison, the group said. The Cardinal Kung Foundation noted that two bishops and eight other priests belonging to the underground Church in the Diocese of Baoding are now in prison. Bishop Su Zhimin, 70, the ordinary of the diocese, was arrested in 1997, and Auxiliary Bishop An Shuxin, 53, was arrested in 1996 and their whereabouts, and even whether they are alive or dead, are unknown. Six priests have been sentenced to three-year terms in prison camps, and two priests are being held in local jails without trial. Catholics in Communist China are required to worship only as part of the government-controlled Patriotic Catholic Association, which eschews any connection to the Pope or the universal Church, although millions of Catholics are believed to secretly belong to the underground Church. While some priests and bishops have formal ties to the patriotic association while primarily serving the underground Church, others remain outside the state-mandated strictures on worship. Joseph Kung, the president of the Cardinal Kung Foundation, said: Having incarcerated two bishops and nine priests of the underground Catholic Diocese of Baoding, the Chinese government has caused great damage to this diocese, but it failed to break its spirit. He added that the same kind of persecution of Catholics exists throughout China. He said, This awareness should enable the public to visualize how severe religious persecution in China actually is. JOYNet inspired us The first Friday of this month JOYNet observed as a Prayerday with the theme World Peace. The prayer drafted for the day was a beautiful prayer. We, 4 JYs in Kuwait, gathered in a place on Thursday evening and we prayed throughout the night in connection with JOYNet prayerday. During the night prayer, Holy Spirit inspired us to conduct a 24 hours chain prayer in Kuwait. So we observed a 24 hours chain prayer starting from last Thursday 6 PM to Friday 6 PM. We took print out and distributed the same prayer which we used in the JOYNet monthly prayer to all who participated in the chain prayer. Nearly 60 JYs participated the prayer without any break throughout the night. We started and concluded the chain prayer with Holy mass. With this chain prayer we could pray for the entire world especially for the Middle East that is in the shadow of war. Also, we could improve our fellowship through this prayer. The prayer time was one hour for each person and it included Holy Rosary, the prayer we took from JOYNet, Prayer for mercy, Praise and worship, Intersession prayer and meditation of selected Bible verses. It is the JOYNet that inspired and guided us to conduct a Holy Spirit filled chain prayer in Kuwait. Thanks to JOYNet and its members.
