[jQuery] JQuery beginner's question on slider values

I need to pass the value of a slider to a form.  I am trying to use
#<input type="hidden" id="my_input" /> #

I tried altField as per the datepicker, but that doesn't work.  Have
tried to get a function working, but to no avail.

Can anyone help me get off the ground on this one?
