Just some context - Ben Johnson is an active member of the Go community, works in Go every day, and has several popular packages in use by many third parties. I would not worry about depending on his work from a quality or responsiveness aspect.
As with John, I haven't looked at the exact code, so I don't know the specifics, I've just worked with Ben and his code in the past and been very happy with it.
