I guess the tricky part of reading waypoints and tracks
directly from a GPS receiver is two-fold:
[1] You have to use communication ports on the computer to
talk to the receiver
[1] this is taken care of in recent versions of gpsylon .. the necessary
rxtx serial libraries (osx,windows,linux) are delivered with the binary
release and used automagically. I tried this on XP and it worked good.
[2] gpsylon parses GARMIN and NMEA. You get infos on available
satellites and

P.S. - The next item for OpenJUMP GPS support: Creating GPX files
directly from a GPS receiver. Edgar will hopefully be able to offer me
some advice on this. :]

is Geoserver demo dataset stored as gml from Geoserver WFS
1.0.0 service.

I have lot of gpx files available, mostly created with OziExplorer, gpsbabel
and GPS Track Maker programs. GPS Track Maker by the way is the tool I have
been using for converting OpenJUMP work to gpx. It can read shapefiles, it
supports lots of projections, and basic version is free. Not
