This has continued through Plasma 5.27.3, and I wanted to post a small update
for anyone else encountering this problem.

I haven't made backtraces before, this was hard. I wasn't able to get debug
symbols for qt5-base, but I did recompile kcmutils, plasma-thunderbolt and
systemsettings.
