Same here: two screens, one of them has sometimes after a cold start a black
background without any interactions (contextmenu).
As a workaround "kquitapp5 plasmashell; kstart5 plasmashell" brings the desktop
back.
Running Kubuntu 21.10, plasmashell 5.22.5
