I just tested it with the internal laptop monitor, same result. Black screen
with only the mouse pointer visible.

I see the same behavior. Also choosing a different name for the search folder
seems to help sometimes.

OK, I think I am able to reproduce the bug. Can you confirm the following: If a
search fails, i.e. returns no or wrong results, deleting the corresponding
search folder breaks the folder tree

Can you try with a fresh user? I.e., set up an IMAP account, let it download
and index some emails, and try to search in them? This should show if some
configuration error is the reason.
