tried it (and checked with the internet-search engine of my choice :-)
buuut: does not seem to work, same gui representation (at least i did not
notice any changes), same problem.
i did:
$ OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP

I "think" you need to set
OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=kde
(or make sure you do not have a OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome somewhere)
Not 100% sure anymore though
