It may be that there are thumbnails on the device. But digikam requests a
thumbnail via the PTP driver, if this is not provided by the device, digiKam
would have to download the entire file and create a thumbnail it

just opened the folder with gwenview, thumbnaisl weren't ther initially but
re-created by gwenview.
doesn't bother digikam, though.
