Now I am confused a bit; what I am wanting to be able to easily change is
the "virtual" collection name --- not the actual name of the folder in the
system.

Nothing has changed in the behavior, the real renaming of the root folder is
still not possible and will not be for the reasons mentioned. I just added the
version number.

The virtual renaming is only completed when the focus leaves the edit field.
The example with drive "C:" was just an example.

The virtual Collection name is the name I was meaning; not the actual
folder name in the system.
For what it's worth, the only thing on my C-drive is the operating system;
no data whatsoever is under C.
