This functionality is already available, it's just up to apps to use the
correct API. You can see this feature working properly if you click the "Open
Containing Folder" menu item in many KDE apps, for example: Dolphin opens and
the item is pre-selected.
The bug is on the affected apps, not Dolphin. Please report to their
developers. Thanks!
