So I finally figured out what is causing this for me.
Having a virt-manager window with an open VM (Arch Linux host, Arch Linux VM)
makes me have the blank-clipboard issues I described.

I noticed that klipper always adds an empty item at the top of the list no
matter what I do: copy from any application, delete the top entry from the
