The identity settings exist since ages :) They didn't change much since the
KMail 1.xx era.

Deleted and reconfigured? No, not at all. I've been running this setup has been
running for 3 or 4 years now without any major change.
Is the "set the template folder" option new? All my accounts have it set as

The thing is, "Local folders" (the root folder) cannot be selected under normal
circumstances.
Am I right thinking you deleted your akonadi database and reconfigured
everything?

Fair point. I'd forgotten that it is configurable. Thank you. Setting it as I
want does make it work the way I want.
However, those messages/templates in the "Local folders" folder still can't be
deleted or moved

in KMail settings / Accounts / Identities tab, open the relevant settings,
click on the "Advanced" tab.
What's the "Templates folder" value?
