SUMMARY
Selecting one area while another area is selected already seems to not select,
and if the new selection overlaps the old, the new just gets smaller. This is
while not using the shift key to select new areas at once.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select an area, any shape
2. Select another area without deselecting first
OBSERVED RESULT
New selection overlaps into the old, deselecting the overlapped part of the
old, and causes the brushes to no longer interact with the canvas.
EXPECTED RESULT
Selecting a new section without deselecting

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The effects on the canvas can be reversed if I hit undo a few times, but I
think it's worth reporting.
