I think I even encountered a gradient with no segments, and I was wondering
whether that was how photoshop is describing the fg/bg autogradient...

I think the bug is caused by the fact that some gradients have only one
segment/spot. That is officially supported by SVG standard. Though I need a bit
more investigation.
