SUMMARY

The green circle with a plus symbol sticks out like a sore thumb compared to
the monochrome icons in the rest of the taskbar.

Plus, it's unclear to new users what it's trying to indicate. A green color, as
opposed to the rest of the icons' neutral/monochrome color, communicates moreso
that e.g. something has succeeded or that something good can be triggered. Is
there an update available? Does clicking the green plus create a new window?
Does it install a new feature?

For something so simple and essential to the user experience --- indication
that there is more than one window open --- I think it makes more sense to have
a more subdued indicator icon. Windows 10/11 have stacked app squares as an
indicator, which is elegant but sort of noisy. Maybe in the long run we can get
more creative here, like in
