Seems Krita team has found a work around for the bug in Qt then, this morning I
updated Krita to to 4.1.7-1 and the problem is resolved.

I tested bare installations of OpenSuse Leap 15 and Tumbleweed in VirtualBox.
Leap 15 behaves like described
Tumbleweed behaves as expected, all cores running.
