I haven't Plasma on hand to check but it works in FF on Gnome wayland for me.

Aha. I think you're just hitting the general problem of plasma not using Qt
scaling yet. I'm not convinced that SDDM is involved at all, but your symptoms
match a description of not using Qt scaling.

The windows are also not set to always on top. Just checked it. I also think it

The core profile shaders currently use version 450. You could try changing the
#version directive to 320 in src/scenegraph/shaders/header_desktop_core.glsl.
