Gilles, we can close this.
The album collection path has not been saved in the digikamrc for years. If the
database version is so old (reset by a backup or due to a defect), an update is
simply no longer possible. We should remove the really old database update code
of the digiKam-0.x versions.

[kstars] [Bug 475499] New: Confusing behavior when setting Az/Alt coordinates manually

2023-10-11 Thread Brett
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475499

Bug ID: 475499
Summary: Confusing behavior when setting Az/Alt coordinates
manually
Classification: Applications
   Product: kstars
   Version: 3.6.7
  Platform: Mint (Ubuntu based)
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: mutla...@ikarustech.com
  Reporter: bgott...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
If there are valid values in the RA/Dec tab of the "Set Coordinates Manually"
dialog it will *always* use those ones, even when the Az/Alt tab has focus when
the "OK" button is clicked. Only if the RA/Dec values can’t be parsed correctly
(e.g., because they are blank) will it use the Az/Alt tab values. This is a
very unintuitive behavior; I had to inspect the source code to figure out how
to use Az/Alt coordinates.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Pointing > Set Coordinates Manually
2. Note or set the RA/Dec coordinates
3. Switch to Az/Alt tab
4. Set Az/Alt coordinates (choose something that is obviously a different
location in the sky from the RA/Dec coordinates)
5. Click OK

OBSERVED RESULT
The display is centered at the RA/Dec coordinates (even though that tab was not
active when "OK" was clicked).

EXPECTED RESULT
The display is centered at the Az/Alt coordinates entered.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux Mint 21.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I think the check at this if statement is not the best condition to check:
https://invent.kde.org/education/kstars/-/blob/master/kstars/dialogs/focusdialog.cpp#L123

If I understand correctly, that condition just checks that the values in the RA
and Dec text boxes were parseable. So the code path that uses the Az/Alt
coordinates is only executed if the RA and Dec values could not be parsed
successfully. It would be more intuitive if the if statement checked which tab
in the dialog is active when the user clicks OK.

I'm not fluent in KDE / Qt GUI programming but if desired I can try to come up
with a fix.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475498

Also adding a wrapper will slightly improve error messages.

The FreeBSD implementation is

void *
reallocarray(void *optr, size_t nmemb, size_t size)
{

if ((nmemb >= MUL_NO_OVERFLOW || size >= MUL_NO_OVERFLOW) &&
nmemb > 0 && SIZE_MAX / nmemb < size) {
errno = ENOMEM;
return (NULL);
}
return (realloc(optr, size * nmemb));
}

Illumos uses the same source (from OpenBSD)

musl and GNU libc do the same thing but without the square root of MAX_SIZE
checks to avoid the division.

Currently there is no wrapper for this function.

As long as implementations just check for overflow and call realloc we are OK
since we will intercept that. It's not safe to assume that and implementations
could directly call their internal functions to handle the call.

This was mentioned in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407589 but I only
fixed the aligned_alloc part.

QtWebKit is used inside. This one is not supported anymore as web client by
Google.

QtWebEngine must be used instead, but this huge component do not cross compile.
A Windows computer must be used to build the installer. Look on the binary
factory from KDE project, this kind of installer is available, but it has
severals limitation as the non support of HEIF and Mysql.

[XWaylandVideoBridge] [Bug 475496] New: Attempting to screenshare via Discord causes the screenshare permission request menu to continuously open

2023-10-11 Thread Russ
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475496

Bug ID: 475496
Summary: Attempting to screenshare via Discord causes the
screenshare permission request menu to continuously
open
Classification: Applications
   Product: XWaylandVideoBridge
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: k...@russell.mozmail.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org, k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

I am attempting to use XWaylandVideoBridge to allow Discord's screensharing to
work while running under Wayland. With XWaylandVideoBridge active and
attempting to start a screen share session from Discord, the "Screen Sharing -
Portal" permission window comes up and asks me which screen/window to share.
Upon selecting one and confirming, the window re-opens a couple of seconds
later, and continues to do so unless I either move the window out of the way
and confirm / use the start option within Discord, or close the screen sharing
menu in Discord all together.

When moving the portal window out of the way and selecting the output that
XWaylandVideoBridge creates (and I can see the selected window/screen within
it), Discord doesn't actually appear to receive anything (the preview window
gets stuck at Discord's "loading" indicator).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install XWaylandVideoBridge and launch it
2. Connect to a voice channel within Discord or join a call
3. Attempt to start a screen share session

OBSERVED RESULT
The Screen Share Portal window continuously re-opens, and the
screen/application doesn't seem to make it to Discord.

EXPECTED RESULT
A screen sharing session should properly activate

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: EndeavourOS/Arch Linux
(available in About System)

At the moment Kwin has keybindings for quick-tiling a window the the

Can we ask you to please check if this is still an issue with Plasma 5.27 (the

If this is still an issue, could you elaborate on the steps to reproduce? I
tried cancelling copy operations in Dolphin, but did not see such a message.
Thanks!

This is a special case of 429403, where the original shortcut is removed but no
custom shortcut is assigned. This also leads to the delete key not working in
the text field of many apps.

[plasma-integration] [Bug 429403] Changing shortcut for "Move to Trash" breaks Delete key in text fields/editors

As a temporary work around, should we temporarily disable the ability to change
shortcuts for the action "Move to trash"? Having the delete key stop working
for editting text fields is far more annoying then not being able to change a
pretty reasonable default shortcut for trashing files.

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 5.24.7 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from
KDE; supported versions are 5.27, and 5.27 or newer. Please upgrade to a
supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you.
Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the
next one.

If you need support for Plasma 5.24.7, please contact your distribution, who
bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no
longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel
free to re-open this bug report.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Archlinux per https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Installation_guide
2. Install SDDM per https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/SDDM
3. Install Plasma per https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/KDE#Plasma
4. Install Wayland per https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Wayland
5. Install additional prerequisites per
https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Wayland/Nvidia
6. Boot system to SDDM greeter
7. Select "Plasma (Wayland)," enter credentials, then select "login"

OBSERVED RESULT
The greeter disappears, and the screen goes blank except for an underscore in
the first column of the first row. After a short period, the underscore is
replaced by a cursor in the middle of the screen (which does respond to mouse
movement), followed very shortly by the reappearance of the greeter.

[digikam] [Bug 475488] New: In face detection, an option to suppress low quality faces as detected might improve recognition training and results

2023-10-11 Thread gessel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475488

Bug ID: 475488
Summary: In face detection, an option to suppress low quality
faces as detected might improve recognition training
and results
Classification: Applications
   Product: digikam
   Version: 8.1.0
  Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***

This is similar to the purpose or value of Bug #425263. I don't feel it is
entirely duplicative, but would certainly understand if it were marked as such.

Many people report unsatisfactory results with face recognition, and I'd have
to agree with that assessment, at least if the benchmark is set by various
commercial face recognition algorithms and stand-alone solutions.

An issue I note that seems likely to be complicating the problem is the
extraordinary accuracy of the YOLO v3 face detection algorithm. It finds faces
only a few pixels across with a total dynamic range of only a few percent. I
have to squint to be sure, but it is usually right: that's a face. Not sure how
you saw that person lurking in the shadows, but props.

This, however, creates a workflow problem. In a modest collection of personal
holiday snaps, only 114,481 in mine, I end up with 23,075 unknown and 2,217
unconfirmed, maybe 1% of which are useful. This creates a bit of a suboptimal
work flow. Further, I must admit I've frequently added very low quality,
barely recognizable faces to a tag set when I do recognize the person (as
noted, YOLO v3 is impressive).

I believe this creates a situation where the database is working harder than
most of us need it to and where we are tempted to pollute the training data
with low quality images.

I believe this could be corrected by providing an adjustable filter to suppress
low quality images by some criterion, including perhaps pixel count, presence
of two eyes (if there's a hook for that), and by contrast ratio across the
face. This would generally eliminate massive crowd detection complications,
reduce the garbage input polluting the face recognition engine, and might
improve the overall experience and default results.

Setting a pixels between the eyes limit is a standard feature for commercial
intelligence facial recognition systems to avoid false positives to reduce the
frequency of executing false positives.

In settings perhaps a UI and back end to enable:
Minimum pixels between the eyes
10 [# 80 ] 100
Minimum face contrast brightness range
10 [# 128 # ] 255
☑ Two eyes must be visible*
☑ At least one eye and mouth visible*
☑ Cat recognition optimizations*

* I have no idea what features the face recognition engine detects and if
there's any way to tune them

I feel like contrast is better than min/max brightness, though most
surveillance systems usually suppress on min brightness as that's a fairly well
understood proxy for image quality.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run face detect
2. Get mountains of spooky accurate face detections
3. Try to figure out who all those ghostly apparitions really are

OBSERVED RESULT

Lots of noisy images of what really are faces, but yow... that's amazing.

EXPECTED RESULT

Clear faces only: I took a picture of Bob, I see Bob, didn't know Alice was
back there, let alone Eve in the shadows, I'm OK with tagging the picture with
their names manually, but FR should just bother with Bob.

[plasmashell] [Bug 475487] New: Wallpaper resets at random when plasmashell is restarted or resuming from standby

2023-10-11 Thread Jonathan Neufeld
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475487

Bug ID: 475487
Summary: Wallpaper resets at random when plasmashell is
restarted or resuming from standby
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.24.7
  Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Image Wallpaper
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: supp...@extollit.com
CC: notm...@gmail.com, qydwhotm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
***
I have 3 displays x 4 activities, each configured with a uniquely different
wallpaper (that's a total of 12 wallpaper configurations) and often when
resuming from standby usually at least one or two activity display wallpaper
settings reverts to the theme default.

It is also worth noting this occurs after booting-up and logging in for the
first time as well.

I have also noticed that `~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc` is
modified to reflect the wallpaper reversions as if some (disaster recovery?)
code determined that it was necessary to revert the wallpaper settings for
those activity displays (but not the others).
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure four activities on three displays
2. Set a unique wallpaper for each screen on each activity
3. Put the system into standby
4. Resume from standby

OBSERVED RESULT
At least one or two wallpapers revert to the theme default, seemingly at
random.

EXPECTED RESULT
Wallpaper configuration remains intact

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Kubuntu 22.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Kernel Version: 6.2.0-34-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 32 × 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-13900K
Memory: 125.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090/PCIe/SSE2
NVidia Driver: 535 (CUDA)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
It is also worth noting that there are numerous other glitches (perhaps
associated with lost GPU surfaces from resuming from standby that applications
do not restore) after resuming from standby that causes Discord to crash,
window decorations to fail as fixed images (buttons do not render any depress
graphics when clicked) that scale erratically when the window is resized, and I
am required to consistently restart `kwin_x11` with `--replace` each and every
time resuming from standby to avoid further rendering issues.
