[systemsettings] [Bug 390539] New: Searching crashes Systemsettings

2018-02-15 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390539

Bug ID: 390539
   Summary: Searching crashes Systemsettings
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.12.1
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: dominik.schl...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 110703

Crash Information

I'm not sure if that's a general bug or just specific to my search terms. I'm
on a German System if that matters. To reproduce:
- open Systemsettings
- Search (top left) for "start"
- Click on "Applications" und "Personal Information"
- directly search for "num"

This reproducibly crashes Systemsettings for me. Might be, that searching for
something while being in a section that isn't returned on that searches causes
the Problem?
Crash Information are attached.

A screen shot of the error notice.

It doesn't matter if it has the same name or not, even if I change the name
from the one that it originated from, if I try to save it as a .GIF it won't
save.

I have attached a screen shot of the error for a recent picture I was trying to
save. Please help! I rely on this program to do commissions, as well as my own
stuff, and this one was just a simple background removal, so I needed it saved
as a .GIF!

Yes, you are right this is a widget style problem.
If a change it to "Breeze" it looks normal, with Fusion or Windows style it
breaks.

Thanks

Maybe look for the answers in other software. Gnome-commander also uses SMB and
SFTP and uses all possible hardware throughput. Maybe if you look into source
code of this application, will be possible to figure out how it should be done.

Terribly sorry, the active visualization was BREEZE, I used the alternative
keys and didn't check it properly.
Without any vizualisation and only showing active window crashes kwin a lot
more rarely, with breeze it's almost sure to crash.

[plasmashell] [Bug 390526] Add option to "Open groups using 'Present Windows Effect'" in Task Manager

--- Comment #3 from Omar Plummer  ---
I've tried Icon-only Task Manager, and I find its use of the Present Windows
effect for displaying grouped windows much more useful/usable than the grouped
thumbnail popup used by the standard Task Manager.

Initially, I expected that I would have had a hard time warming up to the idea
of not having titles/labels right there on the task-bar, but as it turns out,
hovering my mouse over the task to have the title displayed actually doesn't
feel like "too much", especially since I set my panels to auto-hide (so I have
to move my mouse there to see the task manager anyway).

All things considered, this could work. Going to keep it for a while and see
what happens. In the meantime, I'm marking this as resolved.

Thanks again Kai Uwe Broulik.

and an update was not offered by Discover. But okay, machines are updating now.

[krita] [Bug 390041] Ruler cause slow canvas performance in high zoom level

2018-02-15 Thread Alvin Wong
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390041

--- Comment #4 from Alvin Wong  ---
Hi Michael,

This isn't exactly what I observed though.

Yes, the ruler being a little bit larger than the canvas does seem to exist
before your change, but it definitely is a bug. I would have expected you to
have fixed it since you did rewrite a huge part of the code, oh well.

The behaviour of painting the marks outside of the visible range does not exist
on 4.0 beta 1. I checked it with GammaRay just now (I'll attach a screenshot of
it). And it definitely does affect the performance. It depends on the size of
the image: In the screenshot from comment #1, the image width is 3600px, and
the visible ruler range is 1722-1741 which consists of 20 marks, so only 0.556%
of the marks are visible. The cost of painting the text of each invisible mark
is around 0.02% to 0.03% which makes the percentage of time wasted in painting
the invisible marks to be about 0.02% * (3604-20) = 71.68%. For me it causes
the canvas fps to drop significantly when panning (compared to having the ruler
invisible).

You can test with the nightly build. The latest Windows nightly build can be
found here: https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/Krita_Nightly_Build/

It would be great if you can check it soon.

(While you are at it, there are also some undesirable behaviours: (1.) At a
certain zoom level, the subdivision marks aren't aligned to the pixel
boundaries. (2.) At high zoom levels, the subdivision marks reaches
subpixel-level which seems a bit unnecessary.)

Hi Alvin,

Sorry for the late reply.

The behavior of the ruler to be a little larger than the canvas and to paint
all marks no matter if they are visible existed before my commit you mentioned.
They exist in both 3.3.3 (it's the newest stable release, right?) and master,
which are both having their rulers working normally. It's true that they are
not working completely in the expected way (I feel that they are strange, too
when I was reading the code), but the unexpected behaviors doesn't actually
affect usage, right? The extra pixels hardly make any difficulties in painting,
and the extra painted marks are not visible because they are out of the range
of the widget. I suppose that's why the original programmer left them there...
Therefore, I don't think either my commit or the behaviors you mentioned caused
the bug. I don't know how the nightly packages work. If you can tell me that,
then I think I might be able to go back to the ruler class and see if I can do
something, on both the bug and the strange behaviors.

[valgrind] [Bug 384930] Valgrind fails to compute correctly some code using the GMP library

2018-02-15 Thread bugzilla_noreply

Created attachment 110697

Test mem variants of instructions in test-amd64.

I think this triggers a latent bug in the test code with string instructions
(I'm guessing due to the fact that assemblers will accept operands for them,
but ignore them since there's only one possible encoding to output, which just
happens to match up with how parameters are passed to functions), but it
certainly tests more arithmetic code paths in VEX.

This issue could be in Qt or in the font rendering libraries (freetype or
Mesa). Plasma itself has no code to render fonts.

If this is still reproducible with a Tumbleweed live ISO or any other rolling
release ISO image, I suggest to report this issue directly to Qt developers via
https://bugreports.qt.io/

[plasmashell] [Bug 386433] Window sizing is not expanding properly

2018-02-15 Thread Christoph Feck

--- Comment #14 from Christoph Feck  ---
The KCM shell adds scrollbars to help modules needing more space than is
available on the screen. This, however, requires that modules correctly set
their minimum size. You can see this issue with some modules.

kcmshell5 --list | tail -n+2 | awk '{print$1}' | xargs -L1 kcmshell5

I do not think this can be solved at a single location.

When I press tilde the kwin console gives me Xcb symbol 0 at odd and Xcb symbol
126 for even presses, no modifiers for either of then and scan code 40.
When I press accute, Xcb symbols are 0 for odd, 126 for even, no modifiers and
scan code 40.
I can now input those keys in text box eventually, but krita opens in process,
and if it's already open it makes krita window gain or lose focus.

I've the same issue--can't rotate 90 degree, but can 180 degrees. Automatic
screen rotation doesn't work, though, and if I click on the icon in the tray,
nothing happens.

Another thing: after rotating the screen 180, then 90, then back to normal, I
lost input to gtk apps such as firefox. Not sure if they're related though,
since I haven't tried to reproduce it.

Could you please try with a fresh Plasma configuration? (Move
~/.config/plasma*rc temporary away, or create a new user account)

If this is not reproducible there, try to find out which change causes the CPU
issue. Otherwise, even try to remove the default widgets (task bar,
notification area, etc.)

It could give us a clue which part of the code is responsible for the CPU
usage.

I can understand that. We had the same problem at Apple for more than a decade;
people always complained that the padding was too high. Eventually we solved it
with a slider you can use to change the padding between icons, which makes
sense to me because this is the kind of thing where you're never going to
please everybody with an immutable setting.

I can look into the titles maybe, but the padding won't change - it was

and people are much happier now with the tighter grid.

I'm not able to test it out right now, because plasmashell crashes when I try

Spacing, title width, and max number of lines in Folder view and Dolphin

Files and Folders in Folder View always look really cramped because long titles
very easily get split up into multiple lines and then elided. The behavior here
is a bit too aggressive, I think. I see a lot of user complaints about it.

Part of the problem is the default maximum number of lines (2), but another
part is that the width available for titles is so narrow that long-ish words
often get chopped up into multiple lines right in the middle. For the same
sized icons, Dolphin's icon view offers more horizontal space and slightly
larger padding between icons. See attached screenshot from my own machine.

2018-02-15 Thread Christoph Feck
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=291835

--- Comment #52 from Christoph Feck  ---
Mark, the issue is not whether user-space code can saturate the network. The
problem is that there is no async I/O API available in libsmbclient.

If I understand the previous comments correctly, there is a limitation in the
specification to 64 KB chunks.

libsmbclient does not allow to send a network request for the next 64KB chunk
while an old one is still running. You have to wait for the reply, then send
the request for the next chunk. On some networks, this causes a several ms
delay between the requests. The faster the transfer speed, the more painful is
the delay (delay vs. payload ratio).

The CIFS implementation in the kernel does not have this issue; while created
by the same (Samba) team, it does not use libsmbclient and always requests the
next chunk ahead of arrival of the previous chunk, so that the network is
always saturated.

It would be possible to write a network client out-of-kernel that does not have
the libsmbclient limitation, but we do not have the power to write one. I do
not know if there is any other library or code out there that we could use.

> We just need someone

Not me for anything related to networks or databases ;)

The attached patch only works for locale which decimal separator is , and the

will interpret the . as a decimal point too.

We do not have the manpower to maintain multiple icon themes or window

name updates.

If you are not satisfied with the content of application store, please report

It has been a while since I was terribly active with kcalc. Fortunately,
Christopher has been awesome about handling the occasiobal issue that crops
up (thanks!).

I've always had mixed feeling about how to handle the separator issue. How
shall we parse 1,234?

1234?

Or

1 + (234/1000)

You solution seems mostly reasonable, but we should be careful about the
corner cases if any come up.

Thanks for looking into this issue!

Steps to reproduce:
1. Attach Android phone to computer, set USB mode to file transfer
2. Open the device through the device popup in the systray which should open
dolphin with an MTP url of the device (i have dolphin in split view mode) in
both views
3. Open Home in one view
4. Copy a file in the android view(i copied a file from the Camera)
5. Paste it to the Home view
6. close dolphin by clicking the x in the upper right corner
7. have fun logging in again

I updated to Plasma 5.12.1 and the crash still happens.

It seems like there are multiple interrelated underlying complaints here:
- Some content-heavy widgets (like the network widget) are too small
- Some content-light widgets (like the media status indicator) are too big
- The default size is too big on small screens

Any more?

2018-02-15 Thread Royce
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390528

Bug ID: 390528
   Summary: Symbols table now no longer automatically refreshes
itself.
   Product: kate
   Version: 17.12.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: part
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: ro...@ecs.vuw.ac.nz
  Target Milestone: ---

Problem is with Symbols Viewer Plugin.

Symbols table now no longer automatically refreshes itself.
If while editing you add/remove lines then click on a symbol in the symbols
viewer
table. It takes you to the wrong place. Right clicking on the symbols viewer
and choosing Refresh List then update the table.
Automatically refreshing works in version Kate v17.04.03.

Below is the versions of kate where it was not working that I
tried.

Kate version 17.12.(1 & 2)
KDE Framework 5.42.0
Qt 5.10.0

Thanks
Royce

--- Comment #2 from Ed Greshko  ---
I can confirm that on a fresh install of Fedora 27 Bringing up the
Network-Manager GUI one sees

Allow Auto-negotiation:  Unchecked
Speed:  Automatic
Duplex: Half

The hardware is
 00:03.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet
Controller

The driver in use is (from lsmod) e1000.

The ifcfg-enp0s3 file contains...

[egreshko@f27k-v network-scripts]$ cat ifcfg-enp0s3
TYPE=Ethernet
PROXY_METHOD=none
BROWSER_ONLY=no
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
DEFROUTE=yes
IPV4_FAILURE_FATAL=no
IPV6INIT=yes
IPV6_AUTOCONF=yes
IPV6_DEFROUTE=yes
IPV6_FAILURE_FATAL=no
IPV6_ADDR_GEN_MODE=stable-privacy

UUID=7f87f7d8-1d0f-316e-9a2c-419042156b19
ONBOOT=yes
AUTOCONNECT_PRIORITY=-999
DEVICE=enp0s3

(No, ETHTOOL_OPTS= line)

And ethtool reports

Settings for enp0s3:
Supported ports: [ TP ]
Supported link modes:   10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
1000baseT/Full
Supported pause frame use: No
Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
Advertised link modes:  10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
1000baseT/Full
Advertised pause frame use: No
Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Speed: 1000Mb/s
Duplex: Full
Port: Twisted Pair
PHYAD: 0
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: on
MDI-X: off (auto)
Cannot get wake-on-lan settings: Operation not permitted
Current message level: 0x0007 (7)
   drv probe link
Link detected: yes

So, what the GUI has and what reality is are different.

The Speed is actually 1000Mb/s

Possibly a function of the driver?

[kmail2] [Bug 335117] Information leak when using GPG on Bcc recipients

In my opinion there is no information leakage, that's why I would close this
bug as Resolved/Invalid. But I really want to be sure (as this topic is
important to me), that there is no information leakage, that's why I want to
keep this bug report open to give the reporter time to give more details, how
he thinks this information is leaked.

The information I need is a mail encrypted for keys where I have access to
their private keys, that shows me the information leakage or a description how
the reporter found out that there is information leakage, as I can't reproduce
this.
