A feature request regarding application launcher, when opening a sub-menu
within a sub-menu within one of the application menu items, could it be
possible to 
1) return to the main 'first menu' list, on pressing the applications tab
again, usually situated second from the top on the left side of the menu, (as
opposed to going to the top of the screen to do the same, as sometime you might
be a few sub-folders in and the first menu shortcut is inaccessible that way) 
and 2) would you think it a good idea to go back to this initial 'first menu'
set if, for example, while within a 'sub-sub-folder', you click onto another
tab, such as 'computer' or 'history' and then click back to the application tab

You're right, my mistake: the "Emulate Middle Button" does indeed already
adequately control this. Turning it on gets rid of Libinput's annoying virtual
middle button for my touchpad, turning it into an extension of the virtual
left-click button like I would expect (so the left-click button is 2/3 of the
width, and the right-click button is the remaining 1/3).

When trying to add multiple include paths at the same time, after adding one
path opening the file dialogue again causes an abort. Nothing immediately goes
wrong if I just select one path and continue.

While playing a YouTube video in Firefox, powerdevil keeps excessively logging
the following output. Note that I've cut it down to just a fraction of a second
of log messages, but this keeps going on as long as the video is playing.

The power inhibition seems to work fine, but the logging alone seems to slow
down the system.

I'm using kdevelop 5.2.1 (appimage) on 2 different laptops. One with linux
mint, another one with a dell ubuntu recently installed.
In my project and open documents there are not more than 10 .py files.

In both computers I did notice a constant lag/ micro freeze of a few seconds.
Very hard to work in such conditions as it work most of the times, but
sometimes  I go to a new line and can experience a 2s freeze with the progress
bar at hte bottom right that is stuck in some steps.

Disabling python style checker feature, stopped the issue.
Reproduced with the appimage and with a git master build.

I investigated the code and found a few things that are not great the with
python style checker code.

To sum up what I have found:
- Appimage doesn't have the pycodestyle module.
(I guess that this should be added)

- inside pythonparsejob.cpp, there is the background parser main code.
- style checking is called through: eventuallyDoPEP8Checking()
For a reason that I have not found, (maybe the url lock), any delay here, like
a sleep(30) will freeze the UI even if it is supposed to be a "background"
parsing...

Anyway, 
- Style checking is executed through a call to updateStyleChecking in
pythonstylechecking.cpp.
- Inside it, the following mutex is taken: m_mutex
- Normally the mutex will be unlocked when when the "python codestyle.py"
process return an output on stdout.
- But, if codestyle.py can't import pycodestyle, it will just put a message on
stderr and do nothing else.
- Thus, the m_mutex will never be released.

Later parser threads will also try to call updateStyleChecking but they would
not be able to get the m_mutex because it is never released. They will still
wait for 1s to try to get it, in the parser thread context. This is 1s sleep
that are causing the lag.

Since installing KDE 17.10, I can not print in landscape mode. No matter the

I've been able to reproduce it in the Tag panel too.

Steps: 

1) Search for a tag in the search box below.
2) Select that tag.
3) Delete the search text.

That tag will appear now on top of the list, even if you select other tags.

Short video showing the issue.

When scaling is applied (non integer factor), the selected area in menus is not
completely refreshed and lines remain after selection is gone. I attached a
video to show the issue.
I tried to set an integer scaling != 1 and I could not reproduce.
Expected behavior: the selected area should be entirely hidden.

For mice, middle click emulation means making left and right click
simultaneously, to produce middle click. It helps to relieve strain on the
fingers a lot (clicking the scroll wheel is really uncomfortable).

I suppose it's not the same setting as one for touchpads.

The touchpad indicator is not connected to KWin's DBus interface.

I would like to hide the indicator completely in the Wayland session since
probably very few people use it anyways (most laptop keyboards have a special
key to toggle the touchpad).

If someone wants to, such an applet could still be published on the KDE store.

Same thing happens to me. I turn monitors on/off (I have 3) and widgets/panels
move between the 3 of them as if plasma forgot which screen was which. I love
KDE, but the multi-monitor support is very unstable.

Clear the selection when the model is reset

Per Qt documentation, reseting a model does not signal a change in the
selection. Connect the primary selection proxy model to the
modelAboutToBeReset signal to catch the selection change.

This was an existing bug in versions prior to 3.1.1 but did not
manifest since a QSet was use to track selected entries and duplicates
were automatically prevented. Once a QList was used to retain the
selection ordering, the bug showed up.

I understand there's one key difference between them: "face tags" refer to
pictures which contain a face rectangle with a name, and "regular tags" it's
just this, a regular tag.

This has several implications, which are discussed in the original post. Mainly
how face tags are linked to face regions (deleting a face tag deletes the
region in the metadata)? renaming the face tag renames the name of the face
region in the pictures' metadata?

What I mean here, is that a pre-existing picture library in a folder, when
being explored and populated by first time in Digikam, this is the default
behavior. Some face tags appear inside of "People" and some face tags appear
outside of "People". To complicate things, digikam treats face rectangles as
normal tags, mixing them with already-existing tags with the name of the people
in the pictures.

So what I explain is the current behavior in digikam before editing or changing
anything at all.

All of these issues are linked with a misconception: As Maik said before, a
face tag is just a regular tag that has face rectangels connected to it. Have
you actually seen a tag "change in and out" of "People"? I am pretty sure that
any tag can have assigned face rectangles, below "People" or not.

I also suffer from this (kde-frameworks 5.42.0). Opening a kde-open/save dialog
from chromium takes about 10 seconds..

I also ran strace for the dialog, and maybe icons are part of the cause.

I think if it's not a bug, it would be misleading, when in the shortcut setting
section clearly described that: "Open search filter" with shortcut "Ctrl + I".
That is, when I want to search with filter mode, I using "Ctrl + I".

But, also, in the configuration I mentioned, the 'Default Mode' for 'Search
Bar', so naturally, I think that if I open searching bar (Ctrl + F), it would
be the 'Default Mode'.

If preserving the state of the mode of the search bar, it's redundant for
either 'Default Mode' or 'Ctrl+F' shortcut. When 'Default Mode' is used only
once (at the first time of using search bar), or 'Ctrl+F' would be no different
to 'Ctrl+I' if 'Ctrl+I' is triggered first.

As for example, in DoubleCMD, there are shortcuts 'Ctrl+S' for 'Search', and
'Ctrl+F' for 'Filter'.

Hi Thomas - I'm sorry I submitted such a useless bug report. But when the
error message popped up, I don't think I can reproduce the bug, because I
wasn't quite sure what prompted the error message or what I was doing at
the time. Since the time when this error message popped up, I have not had
any problems with KMyMoney or my computer. I submitted the bug report,
because the error message requested that I report it to developers.

As for what version of KMyMoney I am using, yes, I believe that I am using
4.6.6.  When I open KMyMoney and click on the Help menu and then on "About
KMyMoney," it shows that I am using 4.6.6. Also, when I open up Synaptic
and search for KMyMoney it says that the "Installed Version" for KMyMoney
and MMyMoney-common are 4.6.6-2

Unfortunately, I don't remember how I installed MMyMoney when I shifted
from my old Ubuntu 14.04 to my new computer which came with Ubuntu 16.04
pre-installed. I would guess that I installed KMyMoney through the Ubuntu
Software Center. The Ubuntu Software Center is always my first choice for
installing applications. However, strangely, when I go to the Ubuntu
Software Center, it does not have KMyMoney and does not show it as being
installed on my computer. Perhaps the Software Center does not recognize
KMyMoney because it is a KDE program and Ubuntu is gnome-based.

So I suppose it's possible that I installed KMyMoney by downloading a .deb
from the claydoh repository. But I don't remember doing that and I usually
save any .deb packages I install in my downloads directory and I don't find
a KMyMoney .deb package there.

A third possibility is that the program came over from my old Ubuntu 14.04
computer when I copied over all my files from a backup harddrive.  Would
4.6.6 have been available in 2014 for me to copy it over to my new 16.04
machine? And would it have worked just by copying files over rather than
installing a package? Certainly, I did copy over my .kmy file with all of
my data.

So I am sorry to be of so little help to you. If you can provide any clues
as to how I might determine how I installed it, I would be happy to carry
out any steps to find out. Or if you need any other information, I would be
happy to provide it if I can. One clue would be if you could tell me when
4.6.6 became available for end-users in final, polished form? (I would
never have installed a beta version.) As you can probably tell, I am not a
sophisticated user!

I do love KMyMoney and I thank you and other developers for what you have
created and maintained so well.

I have a lot of images in albums which are quite similar but chronologically
far apart.
I would like to have a view in the main album view that sorts (or groups, or
separates) images in one album by their similarity - with an adjustable
"minimum similarity" factor which would influence how many groups to create.

Since you can already search images by similarity and find duplicates, there
must be some similarity indicator for each image (to each other image). 

This is somewhat related to #384396 where we could use a very similar algorithm
to group similar (but not yet assigned) faces in the "Persons" view.

Does this wish have a chance of implementation?
I think it is quite useful and many other image management apps implement it
(e.g. Apple iPhoto / Photos). When I look for people in images, I don't want to
care about files or images, just *people*.

This is not a big deal, but could improve usability.

When detecting and recognizing faces, Digikam could group faces by similarity
in the "Unknown" person when it's very certain that they belong to the same
person, even if that person's name is not in the database yet. That way, only
writing the name of one of them would face-tag the whole group. Just an idea, I
am not sure if it's even possible with the current face recognition engine.

A face rectangle is an arbitrary position, it is perfectly possible to have two
overlapping face rectangles. Switching between such overlapping tags in the GUI
is expected. Just remove any invalid tags/face rectangles - worst case you need
to redo them.

Often, the "Unknown" faces will quickly populate, and sometimes lots of
unfamiliar faces will appear there. You might not want to delete them right
away, since you can ask a relative or friend to help you with their names, but
you want to hide them for a while.

An "Ignored" group of faces would solve that situation. All detected faces that
you don't want to deal with immediately could go there, and not interfere with
the face tagging of faces that you actually know.

A partial solution is currently creating a new dummy person and assign all
ignored faces to it, but I am afraid of confusing the face recognizer if I do
that.

I am not sure if this is a bug or it is done on purpose.

Sometimes when working with face tags, that specific tag on the People panel
will appear on the top or on the bottom of the People list, instead on its
corresponding alphabetical position. 

I am not 100% sure if the same behavior appears with regular tags, but it is
possible.

If a face tag and a regular tag share the exact same spelling (e.g. pictures of
me tagged with my name, but only a few of them have my face rectangle in it),
they all count for the number of pictures in a Tag.

However, when selecting a tag, only a subset of them will contain faces. But it
is currently not possible to know which ones of them have been face-tagged and
which one haven't.

By going to that person's tag in the "People" panel, the number of face tags
for that person will be displayed, so you can infer the difference from those
numbers, but still you can't know which ones of them have been face tagged
without first opening each picture one by one.

In some occasions, a misspelled face tag (done in another software) will cause
duplicated entries in the Persons list, each with its own spelling.

However, for some reason, sometimes when opening a picture with somebody's face
tag in it, the face tag will show the alternative spelling when hovering over
that face. It's like the two face tags are linked somehow. And that makes me
wary of renaming or deleting the duplicated Person.

E.g. Persons: "John Smith" and "Jonh Smith", each with a few faces. I open a
pictures in "Jonh Smith" and the name under the person face reads "John Smith".

Maybe a single picture can have two tags on exactly the same rectangle and that
is causing this behavior?

I had a contact group named "Family Mustermann". Guess what happens if you try
to write a mail to "Max Mustermann ".

Kontact wants to resolve the contact group "Family Mustermann" based on the
match "Mustermann". That causes "Erika Mustermann
" and "Max Mustermann
" to be loaded into the recipient list. Both of
them cause Kontact to resolve the contact group "Family Mustermann" based on
the match "Mustermann"... That doesn't only go until the maximal number of
recipients is reached, but continues after that, causing error messages about
the full recipient list to be created infinitely.
If you don't kill Kontact immediately the mail will be auto-saved and reappear
on a restart of Kontact, driving Kontact completely unusuable until you delete
the draft manually in the file system.

The same thing doesn't happen in KMail, as KMail apparently doesn't resolve
contact groups. It also doesn't happen if you insert e.g. "Max
" so resolution does only happen based on the name, not
on the e-mail address.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a contact group (e.g. "Family Mustermann"), whose name contains a
word (e.g. "Mustermann") that is also part of the name of one of the group
members (e.g. "Max Mustermann").
2. Compose a new mail
3. Insert the name of one of those recipients that have a partial name match
with the contact group name (e.g. "Max Mustermann ") is added to the recipient list, without the
contact group being resolved.

Proposed fix:
You could either not resolve contact groups based on only part of the name
and/or you could during contact group resolution filter out lines that contain
a full email address.

I think there is some functionality missing regarding face tag management.

Is it possible to change the name of a face tag in a picture (or selection of
pictures) and assign it to another existing person?

Is it possible to combine two persons and their tags?

If the name of a face tag (in the People list) is renamed in the right click ->
properties section, are these changes written to the pictures' metadata?

If you remove a Person, are the face rectangles in the pictures deleted or
emptied?
