[frameworks-kio] [Bug 399380] XDG Portal support for KRun
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=399380 --- Comment #2 from Jan Grulich --- Hi, support for portals in KRun can be done the same way like it's implemented in Qt, which can be found here [1]. I'm not sure about using KRun directly in xdg-desktop-portal-kde, the portal backend basically is supposed to just show list of applications (that's why it's called AppChooser) and return the result back to xdg-desktop-portal which will open the app for us. I can look into supporting portals in KRun myself if nobody will do it till when I find time to do so. [kwin] [Bug 399375] Default Window Actions Modifier Key is ALT and it breaks Krita's ALT modifier
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=399375 --- Comment #8 from Martin Flöser --- We cannot change such a default for one app. Sorry. It breaks tons of documentation and will break other software assuming meta is free. If you insist on changing it would mean you consider Krita's need as more important than those applications it would break. The only sensible thing is to come up with a protocol to hint the window manager which modifier it should not use right now. Everything else is not fixing the root problem. Changing the default won't fix anything. If you want a short term solution and a discoverable solution detect that KWin is running and offer the user to change the setting. [kwin] [Bug 399375] Default Window Actions Modifier Key is ALT and it breaks Krita's ALT modifier
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=399375 --- Comment #7 from Tyson Tan --- Just to share my perspective here: # ALT for Add/Subtract is the industry standard that came much earlier than Krita Every graphics editor I know has been using ALT for the same "Add/Subtract from selection" since the dawn of computer graphics. Photoshop does the same and it is the defacto standard across graphic editors. I'm sure PS came much earlier than Krita and many other things. # ALT is essential for graphics editors in general Almost every digital artist is going to use this action on a daily basis. It was actually not Krita but the vector graphics editors like Inkscape are hit the hardest, since they can't do much without those modifiers. I wonder whether Digikam used Meta to avoid this conflict in the first place. # My past experience and confusion By keeping ALT occupied by window actions which most people have little use or even know they exist, we are keeping many digital art/graphics artists away from KDE Plasma, namely the normal Krita/GIMP/Inkscape/Blender users. It was one of the primary reasons every time I gave up using KDE Plasma in the past -- my main tools are missing features! But they are doing fine on other platforms! I could not find where the option is since it is hidden so deep in a jungle of cryptic names, so the logical decision I made every time was went back to Gnome/Windows. # Why I gave it another shot this time The only reason I finally figured it out was because I'm so embarrassed by being asked "you have designed the mascots for KDE, Krita and Kate, but why aren't you using KDE Plasma?", time after time. So I searched through every system settings page, flipping every possible switches like a hunter -- I don't want my decision of using other DEs make KDE Plasma look bad. I'm not sure other artists can be this persistent. It was not easy to type in the correct keywords in Google to get the proper workaround. You don't expect normal artists to have the know-hows like David Revoy. I have been very familiar with computing yet I still had trouble. # My suggestion I think it makes more sense to reserve the Meta key to Window Manager and let all application to use Ctrl and Alt, those not using Alt already can adapt, because I'm not sure whether their usage of Meta/Alt key is as essential as in this case. By unifying the modifier usage we can provide a more streamlined user experience. If nothing, at least organize the KDE settings so they are easier to understand and find. Gnome-tweaks/gnome-tweak-tool handles the same setting much better. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[konsole] [Bug 396435] emoji rendering broken
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396435 --- Comment #21 from Martin Hostettler --- About the Surrogates: You are right. I modified my script to ignore those like C0 and C1. They should never reach this code. About the hangul: Konsole before this change did display NFD in a way that looked correct to my untrained eye. After this change decomposed forms are displayed as 1 wide and 2 narrow characters. At least OS X uses NFD for file names, so i would expect that these decomposed forms will end up in places where konsole will encounter them. For the regional indicator symbols: Those are a whole new bag of fun. I wonder how other terminals handle emoji joining... glibc and glib (vte) consider them narrow. Unifont and Noto consider them wide. And what users actually want to see is two of them joined together to be a flag(supported in Noto seems to be 2 cells wide, not supported in unifont). Konsole see two of them as 2 wide characters (i.e. 4 cells). Interesting enough kitty displays a flag which is 4 cells wide. Not sure how expected that is. I wonder how much sense it makes to deviate from what glibc says when the actual display is really not that great anyway (for flags / regional indicator symbols). I'm worried about proliferation of lots of slightly different width mapping functions that applications *somehow* have to know about. tangent: I think in the long run we need some way for applications to download the actually used width mapping from the terminal to get decent interoperability across versions and different machines in a network. I just notices that emoji joining is yet another aspect that needs to be kept in sync between terminal and the application. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
