[KScreen] [Bug 428913] Blank external display thunderbolt on boot

2020-11-09 Thread Nathan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428913

--- Comment #1 from Nathan <2gd4...@gmail.com> ---
I have two docks 1 is the dell D6000 universal the other HP thunderbolt.
Heres what i figured out today -

The dell D6000 will not work in 3840x2160 @ 60hz but drops back 30hz this seems
to sometimes confuse kwin, repluging brings it back and will not work under
wayland at all.

The HP thunderbolt using DP cables runs at full 3840x2160 @ 60 hz but if booted
with the unit plugged in does not turn the screen on but it 'thinks' the
display is active.

Note: all other apps are restored to their proper desktops. Dolphin is the only
one not restoring properly*

*The Google Chrome browser has not worked properly for years - never restores
on startup although it does open on proper desktop when started manually. But
then that's another story ;)

If I remember correctly, I was able to authorize the controller before on KDE

now is the message box without the buttons whatever how many times I try.

How can I delete all Bluedevil configurations and all previous information
about authorized devices? I do not know if that can help or not, but it is
worth a shot.

[kcachegrind] [Bug 428917] New: kcachegrind hangs with high CPU use when selecting certain functions

2020-11-09 Thread JR
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428917

Bug ID: 428917
Summary: kcachegrind hangs with high CPU use when selecting
certain functions
   Product: kcachegrind
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: josef.weidendor...@gmx.de
  Reporter: zor...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 133189
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=133189=edit
gdb backtrace when program becomes unresponsive

SUMMARY
kcachegrind and qcachegrind both freeze with high CPU use when selecting
certain functions. Brief testing seems to suggest it is functions where the
source is not available, but I'm not 100% sure.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run a D program under valgrind and callgrind
2. Open the generated callgrind in kcachegrind
3. Select function "_start" in the left-hand list

OBSERVED RESULT
Program becomes unresponsive and CPU usage soars. It has to be forcefully
closed.

EXPECTED RESULT
Function is selected and it says its source is not available (assuming the
Source Code tab is selected).

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Distribution: Manjaro x86_64
kcachegrind: 20.08.2
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.75.0
Qt Version: 5.15.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Attaching gdb backtrace from when it hangs.

2020-11-09 Thread Torma
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428916

Bug ID: 428916
Summary: Return/Enter Key no longer works as shortcut
   Product: systemsettings

  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_keys
  Assignee: k...@michael-jansen.biz

SUMMARY
Can no longer set "Return"/"Enter" as keyboard shortcut/modify default
behaviour. EX. In Dolphin, setting "Return" to "rename" or a custom "open with"
dialog, or at the very least setting it to not open the selected file no longer
works. It worked prior to Plasma 5.20 update.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In Plasma 5.19, set a Standard/Global shortcut to "Return" ("Enter" key)
(Ex. Rename [default F2] set to "Return").
2. Update to Plasma 5.20
3. Open Dolphin
4. Select a file
5. Press "Return"/"Enter"

OBSERVED RESULT
File opens in default application.

EXPECTED RESULT
File name editing mode entered.

[Akonadi] [Bug 425131] After crashing, akonadi cannot start up and cannot recover itself

2020-11-09 Thread Grósz Dániel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=425131

Grósz Dániel changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||groszdaniel...@gmail.com

I have had a similar issue recently, after several system crashes (hard
resets), and possibly a mariadb update.

I start KMail. It said it couldn't start the Akonadi service. Clicking the
Start button again, it did nothing.

'akonadictl start' did nothing, no output at all.

'akonadictl start --verbose' indicated that it couldn't start the mysql server,
similarly to the original description of this bug report.

Attempting to start the mysql (mariadb) server manually, with the same
arguments that the Akonadi server uses, just said that it was starting the
server, then quit with exit code 1. Same if I added the --verbose flag. Still
no clue why.

Then it occurred to me to check the mysql log. It was this:

After some further googling, I resolved it by removing

have no idea why this was needed, and why it works.

Akonadi should handle this scenario in a more user-friendly way.

see it would be too much trouble since you are already are displaying them.

We choose the icon based on the formfactor that pulseaudio reports.

Could you please run "pactl list sinks" before and after switching the profile
and attack the output here?

[plasmashell] [Bug 411314] Notifications are not noticeable enough under certain circumstances

2020-11-09 Thread Eu

Eu changed:

I made an account just to chime in that I too have problems with the poor color
contrast of popups. See my attached screenshot:

https://i.imgur.com/u17bklg.jpg

If you look at it, and look really close at the top right corner you can just
see the popup. Nothing crazy done with the colors there, it's just the default
'Breeze Dark' theme and a notify-send of critical urgency as an example. From a
usability standpoint this is less than ideal.

I've noticed in this bug conversation there has repeatedly been asked a
question that implies there is a binary choice to be made: Does the theoretical
notification you missed contain information that you SHOULD have been made
aware of?

YES -> THEN the notification must be held on the screen until you manual close
it

NO -> THEN it's information that you didn't really need to be aware of so it's
fine if you don't see it.

This is wrong (and makes notifications more like a non-modal dialog, which we
already have). Notifications are also for information that only a user is able
to judge the importance of. Notifications are therefore a balancing act between
forcing the user to pay attention and allowing the user to easily ignore them.
Making them so unobtrusive as to be invisible ignores that balance.

It is important to differentiate between 'requiring user interaction' and
'requiring user attention'. Notifications should require user attention but
because they don't require user interaction they are easily ignored. That is
just one theory of UX though, Jakob Nielsen says:

10 Usability Heuristics for User Interface Design
https://www.nngroup.com/articles/ten-usability-heuristics/

> #1: Visibility of system status
>The system should always keep users informed about what is going on, through
>appropriate >feedback within reasonable time.

If you don't see the notifications, you aren't informed.

In my case, part of my issue may just be an accessibility one, I can't hear any
notification SOUNDS so notifications must VISUALLY grab my attention, and they
completely fail to do that (even when using 'Breeze High Contrast' colors).
I've even tried "Use visual bell" under Accessibility, but notifications seem
to be immune to it's usual magic. I don't know what the solution is but it's
obvious to me there is an issue.

In addition to all the other solutions the smart people are thinking about, I'd
like to add these additional ideas to ponder: make 'Use Visual Bell' work with
notifications, allow notifications to appear closer to the middle of the
screen, modify the 'Breeze High Contrast' colors to increase notification
contrast with other windows, develop a new Desktop Effect specific to
notifications (throb? blink? rainbow?)

I find that KDE is by far the best UX experience, which is ironically why this
one UX wart is so irritating.

This is absurd. I have pointed out very clearly at what needs to be fixed in
this upstream code. See also:
https://www.dvratil.cz/2018/10/drkonqi-and-qtwebengine/ . This is clearly an
upstream issue. I have no idea why your distro is not affected. It might be
setting QTWEBENGINE_CHROMIUM_FLAGS=--disable-in-process-stack-traces systemwide
or have some other downstream workaround.

This is an inherent property of how your audio hardware is laid out. HDMI audio
and internal audio are not independant devices but rather on the same device
and to switch between them you need to switch profiles. This is very
unfortunate from a UX point of view, but I'm not sure what can be done about it

We allow using that module to output to all sinks via Configure > "Add virtual
output device for simultaneous output on all local sound cards".

We do not allow to specify a subset of devices to be combined though

[Discover] [Bug 428812] updates available false positive

2020-11-09 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428812

@nate
I read the referenced item and this is NOT a duplicate. My issue has nothing
to do with me attempting to install anything, nor am I receiving any error
messages. The system (Discover Notifier) automatically checks for updates and
reports there are some available. However, nothing is pending download/install
in Discover, nor does Apt report anything being available. I rolled back to a
backup of 20.04 and will try 20.10 again in a week or so; but I'm going to
reopen this if it happens again.

It's been a long time and I don't remember the detail. And I don't 'seem'
experience this anymore, so I guess it's good for me. At least for now.

No I didn't use the snapshot functionality.
