That makes it impossible to navigate the UI without changing values. Tested with different kdenlive versions (arch stable 20.12.3, arch unstable 21.03.80, appimage stable 20.12.3). When I revert the package local/qt5-base 5.15.2+kde+r171-2 (qt qt5) to the version local/qt5-base 5.15.2-5 (qt qt5) everything works as expected. But sliders in other qt applications are fine. I assume the effects slider is no standard qt widget(?) so I open the bug here. Tried on different machines: laptop with Cinnamon, desktop with xfce, fresh installed virtual machine with xfce (all Arch). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Arch: Install local/qt5-base 5.15.2+kde+r171-2 (qt qt5) 2. Move the mouse over any slider 3. OBSERVED RESULT Value of that slider instantly "jumps" to the mouse position. As for why it might be desirable, it's so that you don't end up with your system in a half-upgraded state, with software still running using old libraries still loaded into memory, while anything newly launches or any plugins newly loaded getting the new stuff. This situation causes tons and tons and tons and tons of subtle bugs for users, which is why a reboot is always recommended anyway after updating. People ignoring that advice has been the cause of millions of problems over the years. So this new method essentially makes the always-recommended reboot mandatory. But again, that's neither here nore there; it's up to the distro, not Discover. It did not succeed in fixing the problem in the first place because the root cause always seems to be the PackageKit backend being stuck for a moment and not issuing updates, so the tooltip doesn't change at all or even tell us which backend is stuck. 2. Due to a bug, the tooltip was always shown when the cursor was hovered anywhere over the main panel, so users saw it much more than we wanted and filed many bug reports.
