[KScreen] [Bug 407058] KDE Plasma5 can't change resolution in VM after last update

2021-05-03 Thread Méven Car
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407058

--- Comment #42 from Méven Car  ---
(In reply to ZhangHua from comment #40)
> According to open-vm-tools development
> team(https://github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools/issues/493#issuecomment-
> 775450550), they think it is because "KDE KWin wayland backend is not
> correctly responding to the CHANGE hotplug events on the drm subsystem; it
> should rescan the drm connectors and update modes. "

I am working toward a patch serie to fix this.

This begins with the protocol
:https://invent.kde.org/libraries/plasma-wayland-protocols/-/merge_requests/9

Then it will need KWin kwayland-server kwayland kcreen and libkscreen patchs.

Committed on 04/05/2021 at 05:13.

Fixed edge case where KisSelectionMask would not update
after duplication; The canvas would get stuck w/ rendered
shaded selection mask overlay and not properly respond to
selection of other nodes.

  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: techxga...@outlook.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
I'm not exactly sure how to describe this, but I can't seem launch any software
unless I launch via Krunner or terminal using its terminal command, (i.e.
Plasma System Monitor with `plasma-systemmonitor`, or Konsole with `konsole`).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Login with Plasma Wayland

OBSERVED RESULT
After logging in, I need to enter my password in KDE Wallet, along with running
`plasmashell --replace` in order for the desktop to show up.
The panel's icons are showing "?", and they don't respond when I click it.

EXPECTED RESULT
The desktop should be able to look and act like in X11 session.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: KDE neon Unstable Edition
KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.82.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa DRI Intel® HD Graphics 4400

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Everything works fine with X11, though, so I'm not sure what's happening. I
know with Unstable I shouldn't expect any stability, but I'd like to recover
some functionality at least.

[i18n] [Bug 436564] New: Discover: DE Translation of "Featured" apps as "Recommended" apps leads to confusion

2021-05-03 Thread Philipp Reichmuth
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436564

Bug ID: 436564
   Summary: Discover: DE Translation of "Featured" apps as
"Recommended" apps leads to confusion
   Product: i18n
   Version: 20.12.3
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: de
  Assignee: kde-i18n...@kde.org
  Reporter: philipp.reichm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
In the German UI of Discover, "Featured" apps are translated as "Empfehlung"
("Recommendation"). This makes it seem like they are recommended to me
specifically. As a result, when I open Discover, I find it confusing when it
recommends me to install apps that I have already installed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Discover
2. The featured apps pane opens by default.

OBSERVED RESULT
The list of featured apps is presented as a list of apps that Discover
recommends me for installation. These recommended apps include apps that I have
already installed, so recommending them to me makes no sense.

EXPECTED RESULT
Instead of "Empfehlung", I would expect something that does not carry the
connotation of having been recommended for me specifically. Suggestions -
"Ausgewählte Apps", "Besondere Apps", "Empfehlung des KDE-Teams"

deleted 10 copies of each, because it was reconverting each time. This bug's on

> Did you restart after applying that commit?

Thanks for the review.

Yes I restarted. Multiple times in fact. That's how I ended up with 11 copies
of each of the scripts (and deleted 10 leaving one) in each of the two dirs
(plus the single copy in the old-autostart-scripts backup dir) before I finally
figured out what was going on. =:^( If I hadn't restarted multiple times there
would have only been the one extra copy, not ten extra copies.

Thus the "each time I restart" and "after a few restarts" in the original
description. =:^)

As for the workaround, setting the dir read-only, with autostart-scripts
actually being a symlink to autostart to avoid having two dirs plus the backup
with the same content, seems to have been effective. Further restarts haven't
produced more copies again.  =:^)

(I was afraid I was going to have to either set immutable, or worse, add a
section to my kde launcher script that deleted the autostart dir and copied it
from the backup, like I had to do with konsolerc in a konsole wrapper script
for bug #430036 because konsole protests if konsolerc is set readonly or set
immutable. But in this case read-only seems to have had the intended effect
without further side-effects.)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. lock transparency of fully transparent layer
2. paint on that layer

OBSERVED RESULT
MyPaint brushes are ignoring locked alpha and paint as if it is unlocked.

EXPECTED RESULT
I expect that locking alpha doesn't allow any changes to transparency of
pixels.

[Breeze] [Bug 436559] New: GTK3 CSD buttons are noticeably smaller than regular Breeze Qt style

2021-05-03 Thread Patricio Villar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436559

Bug ID: 436559
   Summary: GTK3 CSD buttons are noticeably smaller than regular
Breeze Qt style
   Product: Breeze
   Version: 5.21.4
  Platform: unspecified
OS: All
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: gtk theme
  Assignee: uhh...@gmail.com
  Reporter: patov...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Minimize, Maximize and Close buttons on GTK3 apps that use CSD are noticeably
smaller than the regular Breeze Qt style decorations.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Compare say Dolphin window decorations to Foliate's or Chromium's (with CSD
enabled).

OBSERVED RESULT
Notice how GTK3 CSD buttons are significantly smaller.

EXPECTED RESULT
Window decoration buttons among both toolkits should be the same size.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: FreeBSD 13.0-RELEASE
KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.81.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I've come up with a workaround: If one modifies "~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css" so
it looks like this, the size of the buttons become the same as Breeze Qt:

@import 'colors.css';

window headerbar.default-decoration button.titlebutton,
window .titlebar.default-decoration button.titlebutton {
  padding: 0px;
  min-height: 20px;
  min-width: 20px;
  margin: 0; }

window headerbar button.titlebutton,
window .titlebar button.titlebutton {
  padding: 0px; }
  window headerbar button.titlebutton.close,
  window .titlebar button.titlebutton.close {
padding: 0px;
background-size: 20px 20px; }

  window headerbar button.titlebutton.maximize,
  window .titlebar button.titlebutton.maximize {
padding: 0px;
background-size: 20px 20px; }

  window headerbar button.titlebutton.minimize,
  window .titlebar button.titlebutton.minimize {
padding: 0px;
background-size: 20px 20px; }

.maximized window headerbar button.titlebutton.maximize, .maximized window
.titlebar button.titlebutton.maximize {
  padding: 0px;
  background-size: 20px 20px; }

window.background.chromium {
  padding: 2px; }
  window.background.chromium headerbar button.titlebutton.close,
  window.background.chromium .titlebar button.titlebutton.close {
padding: 2px; }
  window.background.chromium headerbar button.titlebutton.maximize,
  window.background.chromium .titlebar button.titlebutton.maximize {
padding: 2px; }
  window.background.chromium headerbar button.titlebutton.minimize,
  window.background.chromium .titlebar button.titlebutton.minimize {
padding: 2px; }
  window.background.chromium.maximized headerbar button.titlebutton.maximize,
  .maximized .titlebar button.titlebutton.maximize {
padding: 2px; }

With this, most GTK 3 apps even sport their headerbar buttons with less padding
between them, and so they resemble better the Breeze Qt titlebar buttons.
Except Chromium, but that's always been the case as far as I remember. Still,
at least the size of the buttons becomes more consistent.

[Akonadi] [Bug 436550] Sporadic error when moving messages to trash.

2021-05-03 Thread David C. Bryant
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436550

--- Comment #3 from David C. Bryant  ---
I guess I have a work around. I copied all the contents of
./local/share/local-mail/inbox to a new location. Then I closed KMail, stopped
Akonadi, and deleted all the messages in ./local/share/local-mail/inbox. When I
restarted KMail and ran "akonadictl fsck" I saw that 236 "dirty" items had been
eliminated. Here is some terminal output.

david@localhost ~ $ akonadictl stop
david@localhost ~ $ akonadictl fsck 2>&1|grep ^Found
Found 13 external files.
Found 13 external parts.
Found no unreferenced external files.
Found 0 parts to be moved to external files
Found 0 parts to be moved to database
Found 5 collections without RID.
Found 0 items without RID.
Found 2765 dirty items.

Notice the last line ... that used to say 3,001. 3,001 - 2,765 = 236. So there
were 236 "dirty" items in my inbox folder.

I killed KMail again, then stopped akonadi and copied the messages from the
backup copy back where they had come from. I then restarted KMail, and all the
inbox messages re-appeared. And when I reran akonadictl fsck, things were stil
(partially) copacetic:

david@localhost ~ $ akonadictl fsck 2>&1|grep ^Found
Found 398 external files.
Found 398 external parts.
Found no unreferenced external files.
Found 0 parts to be moved to external files
Found 0 parts to be moved to database
Found 5 collections without RID.
Found 0 items without RID.
Found 2765 dirty items.

So I guess I can cure my KMail error messages by repeating this procedure for
all the destinations in my folder tree. But I'd like to understand what created
the "dirty" items in the first place. And it would also be nice to have a less
labor-intensive method to correct this problem if and when it does arise.

(I'm not real hot with "C++". But I used to write database driver software in
assembly language on IBM mainframes. It's pretty clear to me that a bunch of
the pointers in Akonadi's relational database were corrupted somehow, leading
to a lot of "dirty" items. When I removed all the data from one -- well,
actually, two -- folders, a whole slew of pointers were cleared from the
relational database. Then, when I put the data back and restarted Akonadi, the
previously corrupted pointers were rebuilt correctly. So now a bunch of "dirty"
items are gone. If some clever C++ programmer could figure out how to make
Akonadi reconstruct all its relational database pointers without actually
moving a lot of data around, he could at least construct a recovery tool that
would probably be useful. Reading a bunch of forum posts, it's obvious a lot of
people are unhappy with Akonadi.)

I can reproduce this merely with adding a space to the name of folder that
otherwise works. I noticed the sample contains a non-text file. The current
expected behavior in this case would be not to attempt a comparison. If for
some reason the file is still being processed that could be the reason for the
data lose error. In any case I am unable to reproduce error in 1.9 given the
provided information. Are you still able to reproduce it?

Yeah, by allowing columns to be resizable and also setting by default columns
to take specific percentages of width like what we have in KMail, for example
50% for "Message, File or Command" and divide the rest on other columns.

[Akonadi] [Bug 436550] Sporadic error when moving messages to trash.

2021-05-03 Thread David C. Bryant
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436550

--- Comment #1 from David C. Bryant  ---
I've done some more poking around. The messages that I can't access are
asociated with "dirty" items reported by akonadictl fsck. Here's some terminal
output.

david@localhost ~ $ akonadictl fsck 2>&1|grep ^Found
Found 13 external files.
Found 13 external parts.
Found no unreferenced external files.
Found 0 parts to be moved to external files
Found 0 parts to be moved to database
Found 5 collections without RID.
Found 0 items without RID.
Found 3001 dirty items.

I've posted inquiries in the KDE forum and in some chat rooms. I'll report back
here if I get a response. I did do some spot checking, and the "dirty" items
are definitely causing the problem. Every message that can't be accessed is on
the list of "dirty" items.

For about a year, akonadictl routinely reported 0 dirty items. Then, a couple
of weeks ago, there were 3,003 of them. I have no idea how or why that
happened. I think I can probably fix it by backing up all my emails and
clearing all the data files out of .local/share/local-mail, then loading all
the data back in there. But that would be a lot of work. I'm hopeful there's an
easier way to clean the dirt out of Akonadi.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 436557] New: Please add possibility to close the app/background service

2021-05-03 Thread Frank Steinmetzger
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436557

Bug ID: 436557
   Summary: Please add possibility to close the app/background
service
   Product: kdeconnect
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Android
OS: Android 9.x
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: android-application
  Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com
  Reporter: war...@gmx.de
  Target Milestone: ---

The rationale for my request:

I only use kdeconnect on rare occasions, mostly to transfer a file. Once I am
done I close everything again so it is not in my way and I have a clean
environment. But on Android, there is now a permanent notification for the
running service. So I have to go to settings→Apps→(wait for it to load the
whole list)→scroll down to KDE Connect→force close it to get rid of the
notification. This process in itself keeps me from using it more often,
resorting to SFTP for file transfer.

My currently installed version is 1.16.0 from F-Droid.

Thanks for your consideration.

[ark] [Bug 436556] New: When Ark overwrites existing files, the dialog says "The files seem identical" even if different

2021-05-03 Thread nyanpasu64
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436556

Bug ID: 436556
   Summary: When Ark overwrites existing files, the dialog says
"The files seem identical" even if different
   Product: ark
   Version: 21.04.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: elvis.angelac...@kde.org
  Reporter: nyanpas...@tuta.io
CC: aa...@kde.org, rthoms...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When I open a .7z file in Ark, and drag "filename" into a directory already
containing "filename", it erroneously says the source and destination are
identical, even if they're not.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a file and put it into an archive (.7z works, .tar.gz works).
2. Edit the file on-disk so it differs from the archive (preferably a different
size).
3. Open the archive in Ark, and drag the file out of the archive.

OBSERVED RESULT
The "File Already Exists" dialog says that "This action will overwrite the
destination". However, the displayed Source size matches the destination's file
size, not the actual source (the file in the archive being extracted).
Additionally, the dialog says "The files are identical" even when it is not the
case.

Clicking Overwrite successfully overwrites the destination file with the
(source) file in the archive, changing the contents and size.

If you're extracting a .7z archive, Ark creates a .ark-.(random letters)
folder. If you open Dolphin and shift-drag (move) this file from the .ark-...
folder into the parent folder, the resulting dialog properly shows the files as
different.

EXPECTED RESULT
The "File Already Exists" dialog properly computes the source file size and
whether they're identical.

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: grave
  Priority: NOR
 Component: RDP
  Assignee: uwol...@kde.org
  Reporter: emele...@gmail.com

Seems like a kernel bug. Looks like it lost the mapping for this key, for some
reason. I would recommend reporting the bug to https://bugzilla.kernel.org/

Thanks!

Can confirm. Looks like an issue with the icon recoloring in Kirigami. it works
fine with the green "Install" button where the icon turns white, but with the
red
"Remove" button, the icon is red and stays red and becomes invisible.

Highly visible on PlaMo.

[krita] [Bug 436422] Concentric ellipse assistant tool fails to draw a perfect circle when using "snap to assistants"

2021-05-03 Thread Autumn Lansing
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436422

--- Comment #5 from Autumn Lansing  ---
And I noticed today that this happens with ALL the assistant tools. It's just
not as easily noticeable when making a straight line. There is a jump in each
tool at the start, which results in a slightly darker line segment than the
rest of the stroke.
