[valgrind] [Bug 439046] New: valgrind is unusably large when linked with lld

2021-06-22 Thread Matt Turner
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439046

Bug ID: 439046
Summary: valgrind is unusably large when linked with lld
   Product: valgrind
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: jsew...@acm.org
  Reporter: matts...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

clang/lld pads out the .text section by the amount given by the -Ttext=...
option. This produces enormous executables in valgrind (memcheck-amd64-linux is
~1.4GB). This is the result of valgrind's configure.ac testing for linker
options -Ttext-segment=... which lld does not support and falling back to
-Ttext=... which was subject to a breaking change in behavior in lld-10 (see
[1]).

The patch at
https://github.com/paulfloyd/freebsd_valgrind/commit/9748df5f6a0cefd5b4a4beeeffe1d3668611e561
modifies configure.ac to test for lld's --image-base=... option which provides
the desired behavior.

I dug into this when I found valgrind to be unusably large (~14GB) on ChromeOS.
See [2]. Searching for relevant linker arguments with "valgrind" and "lld" lead
me to the GitHub patch.

It would be great to have this upstream sooner rather than later, because that
greatly simplifies the justification for cherry-picking the patch in downstream
distributions.

FWIW, it sometimes crashes (with the same stack trace) also when I only unplug
the connector.

Yes.

> Does it also work without it?

I don't know, the dock powers the laptop (over thunderbolt).

No, I don't even know about its existence.

I set the env var and will restart the session later, but I answered the

Which version are you using? Which OS are you on, Windows, MacOS, Linux?

Can you please attach a screenshot of your whole Krita window (with that image
open) with Layers docker visible?

Also next time it might be much easier for you to ask on the user-friendly
forum krita-artists.org; here (bugs.kde.org) it's a technical place for
developers, so it's not very good for helping users. The forum
(krita-artists.org) is much better for that: allows easy uploading of images
and there are more people helping.

backtrace of the crash

SUMMARY
I was hovering over a Xwayland window in the present windows effect when the
wayland session crashed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
can't reproduce it anymore. Maybe if I force soft cursors though

wayland-session.log contained
kwin_wayland_drm: Failed to update cursor on output "DP-3" and at least a few
seconds later the crash with
ASSERT: "d->m_texture" in file
/home/xaver/kde/src/kwin/src/libkwineffects/kwingltexture.cpp, line 422
but that doesn't really say much more than the backtrace

[systemsettings] [Bug 431197] Sub-pixel anti-aliasing is sometimes not being applied on initial system setup

2021-06-22 Thread nyanpasu64
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431197

For the record, to fix this issue after you've upgraded to Plasma 5.22+:

- Open the Fonts settings panel.
- Switch "Sub-pixel rendering" from RGB to another value, and press Apply.
- If desired, switch it back to RGB and press Apply again.

Also should this bug be marked as duplicate of
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=416140, should that bug be marked as a
duplicate of this, or neither?

Eoin O'Neill changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||eoinoneill1...@gmail.com

NOTE:

This seems to be related to Krita's attempt to merge multiple transform
operations. Basically:

1) You begin transforming, which creates keyframes. When finished, the
transform is committed to the undo stack -- we'll call this "Transform Command
A".

2) You then begin a new transformation, calling InplaceTransformStroke which
verifies existing keyframes and skips creating new ones. This is "Transform
Command B".

3) Somehow / somewhere, Transform Command A is seen as the most recent command,
and Krita decides to undo Transform Command A. Because Transform Command B
skipped creating new keyframes, it continues to believe that Transform Command
A's keyframes still exist. This leads to a nullptr situation, causing a crash.

Possible solution -- maybe we should always override existing keyframes and
create new ones so that this type of thing can't occur?

If it's about apps, it sure isn't about our flatpak runtime. If installing a
component fixes it, it's either a gtk issue or an issue from your distro
misdetecting dependencies.

Marking as a downstream issue, please reopen if you think I missed something.

SUMMARY
I hope I chose the right component. Some strings in right click menus of input
fields are not localized, like e.g. Undo/Redo/Cut/Copy/Paste/Delete. See
attached screenshots.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE (kfind)
1. open kfind
2. right click any text input field

STEPS TO REPRODUCE (dolphin)
1. right click a file to rename it and see proper translated strings
2. right click in the highlighted input where you can type the filename and see
untranslated strings

EXPECTED RESULT
Have everything properly localized.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I can also reproduce this behaviour on a current up-to-date Fedora 34 KDE
Plasma Session so this is not exclusive to Exherbo Linux.

Everything else is properly localized, so I assume no user configuration error
on my side.

$ locale
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8

M Johns changed:

 Resolution|WAITINGFORINFO |---

Sorry, I don't have kdesvn installed any more, and I couldn't easily find a svn
repository to test with.

Every time I have seen a similar problem in the past, it has been a race
condition where two modals show at the same time but they are modally
"deadlocking" each other (the app itself hasn't actually crashed or hung, but
the UI is now locked up).

In this bug. two modals end up showing at the same time: both a menu on the
main window and a modal dialog for the password. My belief is that neither the
menu nor the modal password dialog is responsive because the one on top is
modally locked by the one underneath.

You are welcome to close this bug if it can't easily be reproduced.

[plasma-nm] [Bug 439038] New: Should plasma-nm create system connections when allowed to?

2021-06-22 Thread Andrew Zaborowski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439038

Bug ID: 439038
Summary: Should plasma-nm create system connections when
allowed to?
   Product: plasma-nm
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: applet
  Assignee: jgrul...@redhat.com
  Reporter: balr...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

plasma-nm always sets a new connection's permissions property to the current
user, meaning that only that user can use that connection:
https://github.com/KDE/plasma-nm/blob/6cac88b61da1277dcb9a801e47f2d69829c68086/libs/handler.cpp#L234

Similarly the editor's default value for the `allUsers` checkbox is false (not
really sure if that is ever used.. or is the editor window only ever
initialized with values from an existing connection in a way that the defaults
never come into play).

Apparently the approach recommended by NM creators is for the client to look at
the `org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.settings.modify.system` polkit permission
and if that is true for the current user session, default to a system-owned new
connection (empty `permissions` property), otherwise default to user-owned.
This was recently stated in
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/issues/743#note_952026
(and, as can be seen in that link I'm interested in making this logic work
across all clients because when NM is switched to use IWD as the wifi backend
-- a recent addition -- some features can only be enabled for system-owned
connections. But, I don't currently have a plasma setup to be able to try
making the necessary plasma-nm changes)

For reference I documented what different NM clients do in
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/network-manager-applet/-/merge_requests/98

The real problem here occurs when windows in the background are dimmed.
Activating 'pick screen color' mode don't allow Alt+Tab window switching and we
are unable to capture the real color, furthermore none of the system shortcuts
work in that mode (window minimizing etc.). Maybe the biggest issue is that
*workaround* - 'Color picker' widget don't implement hovered color preview.

2021-06-22 Thread Bogdan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439007

I think, that Dolphin has 2 bugs:
1) low support of files path in URI form;
2) don't checks existing of received file/folder path, before opening directory
listing.

Nemo correctly opens file path, sended from Strawberry.
If Strawberry use the same algoritm with Dolphin and Nemo, then Nemo check
existing of file path and, if received path is file - opens folder and select
file inside it. And thats all - expected behavior even without dbus supporting.

Bug ID: 439036
Summary: Links stripped from signature images when sending HTML
   Product: kontact

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: mail
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jwhy...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I have an HTML signature containing my company logo, and have surrounded it
with a link to the company website. I have confirmed the A tag is there when
looking at my .config/emailidentities file. When I compose or reply to an
email in HTML format, the A tag around the image is removed. It is leaving the
A tag surrounding the text version of my email address in the signature.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new signature.
2. Check off the "Use HTML" option
3. Insert an image using the toolbar button
4. Select the image, insert a URL using the "Link" button
5. Leave the link text blank, specify the URL
6. Save and close
7. Compose a new message in HTML format. Send the message, then view the
source of the received message, and note the A tag is missing from around the
image.

OBSERVED RESULT
The image appears in the received email, but is not clickable

EXPECTED RESULT
Clicking on the image should open the link

The same issue occurs for plugging in an external usb drive - the system tray
popup window only offers to mount it once - no other usb drive is offered a
mount once a drive has been umounted via the right click menu option from the
dolphin drive list. Logging out and logging back in, allows a single external
usb drive that is then plugged in to be mounted once only again.

[plasmashell] [Bug 439035] New: The "correct" application is run on the second click. First one starts nothing or the previous one.

2021-06-22 Thread Stefan K.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439035

Bug ID: 439035
Summary: The "correct" application is run on the second click.
First one starts nothing or the previous one.
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.22.1
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff)
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: familieku...@arcor.de
CC: mikel5...@gmail.com, plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

This is an annoying one. Kickoff (or KRunner) starts the application I have
clicked before. It seems to ignore the current request and repeats the last
one.

The bug seems to be introduced with Plasma 5.22.1 (Framework .83).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Log in.
2. Run one application in Kickoff - in example Dolphin.
3. Nothing happens.
4. Click on "System Settings".
5. Dolphin appears.
6. Click on something else.
7. "System Settings" appears.

OBSERVED RESULT

It also seems to have side effects. If I want media files from dolphin to open
in vlc, it is just the same. The first time nothing happens. The second time
the file is opened in vlc. If I want another file, I have to open vlc twice.
Because the first time it opens with the previous file.

It does not affect keyboard shortcuts like META+E to start Dolphin. These still
work correct. As far as I see. Konsole is fine, too.

EXPECTED RESULT

Well, open the apps I wanted to :)

can only reproduce it in a Wayland session.

So, I did a bit of an experiment. I reinstalled the Synaptics driver package,
enabled natural scrolling and then purged the package. This appears to have
enabled control through libinput. It seems like the settings for the Synaptics
driver still apply despite the package being removed (and not purged). I guess
this is an issue with upstream packages? Nate, do you have any insight on what
might be happening here?

Just wanted to leave a workaround here for readers, you can install the package
gtk3-nocsd in your system to enable the KWin window decoration for GTK-based
applications. I believe it is available in the major distributions.

After install it, logout and login back and open one GTK-based application. The
window is expected to have the Kwin window decoration and the middle button
click on title bar action will work as expected.

[kde] [Bug 439034] kdeinit5 crashed while i was moving music files from phone to laptop via USB

Feedback: BTW this showed that the bug cannot be reported as it has no address.
It is so unintuitive. One has to change the tab to "Developer Information",
then Save to file (or copy) and manually file a bug here, all without any
advice to do so.

Awesome Nate Graham once told me that there is some kind of automatic symbol
fetching, those never seem to work for me. I always manually fetch the debug
symbols. I've even learned to use mk-build-deps because of this. I am a
programmer and in my initial weeks i didn't manage to learn how to submit KDE
error reports. I really can't imagine a novice Kubuntu user able to report any
crashes to KDE.

Bug ID: 439033

   Product: frameworks-kconfigwidgets
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux Packages

kconfig's game device calibration curve

SUMMARY

It looks like the Plasma/Settings/InputDevices/GaemController section is
broken. The drawing of the calibration curve is not matching actual numbers
delivered by the controller (Thrustmaster 16000 Flight Stick here) The curve is
drawn choppy and skipping numbers.

I added one animated GIF of the kconfig widget (game controller) and one taken
with another joystick calibration tool `jstest-gtk` - works fine.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Test device curve drawing

OBSERVED RESULT

I added one animated GIF of the kconfig widget (game controller) and one taken
with another joystick calibration tool `jstest-gtk` - works fine - not
kconfig's.

Add option to always invert text selection colours

The recent change of blending the background/foreground colours for text
selection doesn't work everywhere, users with vision impairment or
colour-blindness would probably find it hard to distinguish text selection
colours; and the current code can't possibly cover all variations of colour
schemes out there. The same goes with certain displays and viewing angles,
some display types are notoriously awful when viewed at an angle.

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 413103] Slideshow on screenlocker shows same image on all monitors

2021-06-22 Thread Paul Lemmons
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=413103

I have read bug 409226 and I cannot honestly see how it relates. It has to do
with the greeter presenting a place to log in on multiple monitors. This bug
had to do with the slide show showing the same image on each monitor instead of
a different image on each monitor.

I realize that the greeter works in tandem with the slide show and that this
"bug", as well as the other, is one of personal taste as opposed to something
actually being broken. But if ever there is a chance that the image could be
different on multiple monitors in the slide show, I would not want this request
to be lost by being closed as a duplicate of another simi-related bug that does
not imply the intent of this request.

Please consider re-opening this bug.

Fix "filter by tag" when checked on startup

Before this commit, if the user opened Krita and "filter by tag"
was enabled and the user tried to search for some brushes,
Krita would ignore the checked "filter by tag" option
and show all brushes with all tags. Only after checking
and rechecking the bool it would work.
This commit fixes that behaviour by only showing the relevant
brushes.

[kwin] [Bug 423319] kWin crashed when using hotcorner to Present Windows

2021-06-22 Thread Karoline Pauls
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423319

Created attachment 139593
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=139593=edit
New crash information added by DrKonqi

kwin_x11 (5.19.5) using Qt 5.14.2

- What I was doing when the application crashed:

Similarly to 423319, I can trigger the crash by moving to the top left
corner and continuing moving up-left. I can reproduce it quite easily. I use a
touchpad, which may be more janky than a mouse.
My KDE version however, is more recent - Plasma 5.19.5, newer than the
version the original 423319 bugfix was applied to (5.18.6).

Operating System: Kubuntu 20.10
KDE Plasma Version: 5.19.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.74.0
Qt Version: 5.14.2
