That description is almost correct. What actually happens is that the file is
saved as a new file which is then renamed to have the old file's name. This
method of saving a file is to preserve the original data if something goes
wrong during save, taking advantage of the POSIX rules regarding renaming
files.

A discussion about why the lack of a "write" permission doesn't make a file
"read-only" belongs elsewhere, but the "write" permission doesn't apply to the
file's name (or any of its other metadata).

A proper solution for truly making files "read-only" isn't in Okular's scope,
but to be friendly Okular could check to see if the file is "writable" and
prompt if it isn't.

(In reply to David Hurka from comment #2)

> This is AFAIK the only way of saving files that is used by existing
> applications. Modifying files in-place maybe makes sense for databases,
> which Okular isn’t.

The lack of a "write" permission actually _prevents_ "in-place" modification,
so technically the behavior here is correct.

Krita 5.0's news widget now supports multiple languages (if available on
krita.org). But it requires the user to confirm before it shows anything.
Currently, when enabling it for the first time, the language is set to English.

Can we make it possible to auto-detect the current locale when enabling News
for the first time? People probably don't expect Krita to have any news other
than English, so they don't even bother to look :P.

Maybe we can default it to English + Current locale (if available)?

SUMMARY
Unlike KSysGuard's status bar or htop's header, plasma-systemmonitor's
Processes page lacks a status bar for me to check total CPU/memory/swap while
looking at the process list.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open System Monitor.
2. Click on the Applications or Processes page.

OBSERVED RESULT
There is no status bar, so you can't check per-app and total CPU/memory at
once. If you try editing the layout to add a status bar showing CPU/memory/swap
in a compact region of the screen, you instead get a section that takes up half
the window size.

EXPECTED RESULT
I can check total CPU/memory while in the applications/processes list.

   Version: 7.3.0
  Platform: Debian stable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor

  Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: mikely...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

I recently dug out my old Wacom Graphire tablet, and have noticed something odd
with Digikam.

The scrollwheel on the tablet mouse works fine in all other applications, but
not in Digikam. If I try to scroll through an album, for example, the wheel is
ignored. However, the wheel on the old-fashioned wired mouse works just fine.

The events from both wheels, as reported by xev, appear to be the same.

I'm using the appimage release. It has been suggested that the problem may be

Windows and frames that were closed but glitched and remained visible were
closed after disabling transparency effect

Expected behaviour:
Window always closes and minimizes normally as expected. Overlayed frames
disapears.

Actual Behaviour:
Closed and minimized windows remain visible sometimes and won't go away,
overlayed frames too. Animations are played normally but the window returns
after the animation finishes

Screenshot of "kioexec Copying" notification

SUMMARY
When drugging an URL onto a .desktop icon of a browser, the URL is mangled and
thus a wrong page is opened in the browser.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open
https://pointieststick.com/2021/08/13/this-week-in-kde-bugfixes-and-ui-improvements-galore/
(or any other website -- using this just as an example) in Firefox
2. Mouse down and drag the "Get involved" link
3. Drop it onto a Chromium.desktop icon on the desktop

OBSERVED RESULT
* A "kioexec Copying" notification is shown (see the screenshot)
* A mangled file:// URL is opened in Chromium:
file:///home/andrei/.cache/kioexec/krun/195644_0/Get_Involved

EXPECTED RESULT
URL https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved is opened in Chromium

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: KDE neon 5.22
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.84.0

Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz
Memory: 7.7 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 620

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
* This is extremely useful when trying to open a URL in a different browser.
* The video attached at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=420131 shows that
it used to work in 5.16.5 (albeit intermittently).

Will looking into newer Krusader version (git).

[kdenlive] [Bug 441020] New: speech to text module does not work for me

2021-08-15 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441020

Bug ID: 441020
Summary: speech to text module does not work for me
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Appimage
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: User Interface
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: turtle.e...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 140757
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=140757=edit
stdout and stderr output from running kdenlive test.

SUMMARY

I followed the install and usage directions. No subtitle text is created.
Looking at Bug 439757, I made sure vosk is version 0.3.30.

I tried with these appimages:
kdenlive-21.04.3b-x86_64.appimage
kdenlive-21.11.70-9295653-x86_64.appimage

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Install steps
1. Followed the steps for installing the python software.
2. Followed the steps for installing the models. Installed in "custom" dir:
  ~/Downloads/vosk-model-small-en-us-0.15/
3 Clicked on "Check configuration" button
Saw "Speech to text is properly configured."

Apparently, the configuration check is not checking enough, because
speech2text didn't work.

Steps to reproduce
1. Started a new project: speech2text-test.kdenlive
2. Added a video clip with some spoken English audio
3. Defined a short 10sec in/out zone on the timeline
4. Selected the "Edit Subtitle Tool" icon
5. In the Subtitles track, selected the "Speech recognition" icon
6. Selected "Timeline zone (all tracks)", and vosk-model-small-en-us-0.15
7. Clicked on "Process"

OBSERVED RESULT
* Saw a progress bar for less than a second.
* Then, "Subtitles imported"
* There was no title text in the subtitle track
* An *empty* speech2text-test.kdenlive.srt file was created

EXPECTED RESULT
* I expected to see some subtitle text in the track and in the srt file.

[digikam] [Bug 441019] New: Location of Collections 'Confused' by Same-Model External Drives

2021-08-15 Thread Shaun Rambaran
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441019

Bug ID: 441019
Summary: Location of Collections 'Confused' by Same-Model
External Drives
   Product: digikam
   Version: 7.3.0
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Database-Media
  Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: sh...@forge.co.tt
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
While my Digikam database lives on my internal drive (as recommended), my
photograph files live on an external. If I have another external of a similar
make and model as my photography drive plugged in before launching Digikam, the
software seems to 'become confused' about which of the externals the
photographs reside. The evidence of this I've seen more than once when
consulting my 'Configure digicam' settings menu: The path to my 'Collection'
shifts from my correct external to the other one. Changing the settings seems
to make no difference; Upon saving the path seems to immediately and
automatically revert to the incorrect location. I need to unplug the other
external in order to proceed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Save Digikam database locally;
2. Save photography files onto an external harddrive;
3. Close Digikam;
4. Plug in a second external harddrive of a similar make and model as the
first;
5. Launch Digikam.

OBSERVED RESULT
The settings for 'Collection' show that the path to the photographs changes
from the first external to the second.

EXPECTED RESULT
Path to the collection should remain unchanged.

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

SUMMARY
Since the last (backports) update, I can't open ARW file in Gwenview anymore.
Other RAW format works (tested CR2 / RW2), the internal Jpeg preview is shown,
but not ARW.
It was working right before that.

The only other software I found to have the same kind of error is
https://gitlab.gnome.org/YaLTeR/identity.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open an .ARW file with Gwenview

OBSERVED RESULT
"File loading failed" error message

EXPECTED RESULT
Internal image Jpeg preview is shown.

(In reply to Mac Michaels from comment #21)
> The latest System Monitor does strange things.
> In "System Monitor" it reports under 10% CPU usage in Processes view.
> In "top" it shows ksgrd_network_h process using 35% to 78% of CPU.
> Hardware: 8 - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz

Note that top shows CPU utilization per logical core and System Monitor - per
system. So a process that utilizes all 8 threads of your CPU will show as 800%
in top and 100% in ksysguard.

Thanks, Alex, I found those .protocol files in a folder of the aforementioned
virtual machine:

$ find / -name "krarc.protocol" 2>/dev/null
/usr/share/kservices5/krarc.protocol

$ find / -name "iso.protocol" 2>/dev/null
/usr/share/kservices5/iso.protocol

and I deleted them:

$ sudo rm /usr/share/kservices5/krarc.protocol
$ sudo rm /usr/share/kservices5/iso.protocol

After a `sudo make uninstall`, a reboot and a `sudo make install`: Krusader
seems to work well in that virtual machine.

If it may be useful, this is the location of some files that are working:
$ find /usr -iname "*kio_*.so"
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kio_kamera.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kio_obexftp.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kio_bluetooth.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kio_fonts.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kio_msits.so

[kdenlive] [Bug 441014] New: Editing Guides

2021-08-15 Thread Ian
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441014

Bug ID: 441014
   Summary: Editing Guides
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 21.04.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: User Interface
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: id012c3...@blueyonder.co.uk
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I was editing a video and had 4 Guides on the timeline. The first 2 had been
named and I had two others un-named. The cursor was on the second (named)
guide, but the two un-named guides were visible and I wanted to name one of
those. I right-clicked one of those guides and selected "Edit Guide" - but the
guide which was edited was the one where the cursor was, not the one I clicked
on.
I have noticed that I can only edit a guide when the cursor is on the guide -
otherwise it does not give the option th Edit - but it is confusing to be given
the option when the cursor is on a totally different guide to the one you
click.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create at least 2 guides on the timeline.
2. Put the cursor on one of the guides.
3. Right-click a different guide, Select Edit

OBSERVED RESULT
The guide where the cursor is gets edited

EXPECTED RESULT
The guide you click should either be edited OR not offer Edit as an option.

[okular] [Bug 440986] Okular is able to overwrite read-only files

(In reply to Adriano Vilela from comment #0)
> [...] Okular is saving the

This is AFAIK the only way of saving files that is used by existing
applications. Modifying files in-place maybe makes sense for databases, which
Okular isn’t.

Anyway, apparently other applications do not overwrite files with mode 0400.
(Tested with nano and Kate.)

And the problem is not Poppler, because the same behavior occurs with other
file types than PDF too.

[neon] [Bug 439978] 5.22.2 and 5.22.3 Consistently Locks Up

2021-08-15 Thread Chris
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439978

I applied more updates yesterday. That brought me to kernel 5.11. Which made
the system completely unbootable. I never even see grub. It just locks up on
the "Gigabyte" splash screen (the maker of my motherboard).

To my surprise, I found that if I tapped escape, I could get into grub if the
timing was just right. I booted into kernel 5.8.0-63 and it worked! I ran
this for about 24 hours, and it never complained. Again, I thought I was in
the clear. A few moments ago, I noticed it wanted two more updates: Gnome
Application platform 3.38 and KDE 5.15. I applied these -- now I'm back to
where I was before. Everything just locks up, I get weird behaviors and I see
nvidia drm errors. I noticed that the last several times the system was
offering these two packages after applying system updates. They just might be
the actual problem here, I'm thinking.

As a side note -- I have another neon system I'm using as the base for my Linux
audio Daw. I use the repos there to get all my DAW related packages and guitar
effects etc. The last update completely killed that system too -- the update
that brought it to 5.11. It just came up to a black screen, and I had to do a
system rescue. I was able to back that one down to 5.8.0-63, and it is running
again... that is also a gigabyte board z390 designaire -- which is an intel
board, so that was surprising. It also has a gigabyte card with proprietary
drivers (which must be used due to excessive interrupts caused by neouveau).
That is 2 of 3 systems I use that have been unusable under the updates that
have been going out over the past couple months. It might be a coincidence, I
don't know. But I thought I should mention it.

[yakuake] [Bug 441013] New: yakuake-21.08 highlight terminals when moving focus -> highlighting does not correctly disappear

2021-08-15 Thread Till Schäfer

Bug ID: 441013
Summary: yakuake-21.08 highlight terminals when moving focus ->
highlighting does not correctly disappear
   Product: yakuake
   Version: 21.08.0
  Platform: Other

video of yakuakes highlighting bug

SUMMARY
When using the "configure -> appearance -> highlight terminals when moving
focus between between them" feature, yakuake used to highlight the focused
terminal (by adding a collored overlay) for a short period of time, and returns
to normal appearance afterwards. After upgrading to version 21.08, the
highlighted area stays highlighted until some other operation updates it. This
also results in partially removed highlighting in the lines that re currently
updated only. For example, the line of the bash prompt returns to
non-hihglighted appearance when typing something, while the rest of the
terminal stays highlighted.

Also see the attached video for a visual example.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. enable "highlight terminals when moving focus between between them"
2. move focus between terminals by shortcut

OBSERVED RESULT
the highlighting stays until other terminal refreshes happen.

EXPECTED RESULT
the highlighting disappears after some time

That was the first thing I did before I reported this error. I opened the
settings and saw that it was checked. So I unchecked it clicked on "Ok". I
opened the settings again and checked it clicked on "OK" and it still showed
it. I restarted my PC and tried again and it still showed it. I tried again but
this time I clicked on "Apply" then "Ok" in the sequence and it still did not
hide them.

[dolphin] [Bug 441011] New: Strange wording on the bluetooth file sharing dialog; "Back" instead of Cancel et al

2021-08-15 Thread Rick Kerkhof
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441011

Bug ID: 441011
   Summary: Strange wording on the bluetooth file sharing dialog;
"Back" instead of Cancel et al
   Product: dolphin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: r...@nanosector.nl
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 140753
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=140753=edit
The dialog in question

SUMMARY
The bluetooth file sharing dialog (right-click a file, Share -> Share via
Bluetooth) has strange wording on the dialog's actions. The bottom two options
are Run and Back, neither of which makes sense in this context.

Run does not make sense because what are you supposed to "run"? An action like
"Share with device" would make more sense here, as you are supposed to select a
device to share with in the context of this window.

Back does not make sense because the window is separate from the main Dolphin
context. I have assumed this is named the way it is because of mobile file
sharing being more common, but "Cancel" seems more appropriate in either
scenario.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right-click a file
2. From the Share menu, select Share via Bluetooth
3. Observe the dialog wording

OBSERVED RESULT
The wording on the action buttons does not make sense in the context.

EXPECTED RESULT
The wording on the action buttons should make sense in the context.

I'm going to close this as NOT A BUG, since KMM is behaving as designed.
The team is definitely aware of this type of problem, and if there isn't
already one, I may file a separate bug about giving the user better control of
the automatic creation of new payees on data import.

[plasmashell] [Bug 441010] New: Plasma breaks system locale when a locale which is not supported by the system is selected

2021-08-15 Thread Rick Kerkhof
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441010

Bug ID: 441010
Summary: Plasma breaks system locale when a locale which is not
supported by the system is selected
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.22.4
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: r...@nanosector.nl

  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 140752
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=140752=edit
An example of a locale configured while the system does not support it

SUMMARY
I could not find a dedicated Bugzilla project for plasma-workspace, so I filed
it here; I'm sorry if this is incorrect.

Plasma lists *all* locales in its Formats KCM (System Settings -> Regional
Settings -> Formats), even ones which are not supported by the underlying
system, unlike the Language KCM.

Setting one of these unsupported locales breaks some software which relies on
proper locale configuration and causes warnings in others. For example,
Minecraft's launcher no longer launches and crashes, and DNF throws warnings.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open the Formats KCM;
2. Set an unsupported locale by your system, for example nl_EN;
3. Restart your session and observe application behaviour.

OBSERVED RESULT
The Minecraft launcher breaks and DNF and other programs throw locale errors.

> Failed to set locale, defaulting to C.UTF-8

EXPECTED RESULT
Plasma should not break the locale settings the way it currently does and all
programs should continue working.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Fedora 34
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.83.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.13.9-200.fc34.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz
Memory: 15,4 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 5500

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
>From what I could find in the repos, the Formats KCM relies on the output of
QLocale::matchingLocales:

https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/blob/master/kcms/formats/kcmformats.cpp#L72

This method, https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qlocale.html#matchingLocales , in turn
relies on a list of locale data built in to Qt:

https://github.com/qt/qtbase/blob/dev/src/corelib/text/qlocale_data_p.h#L79-L88

A possible solution therefore would be to filter the list given by Qt on
locales known by the system.

On top of this, Plasma itself seems to not have any issues with the locale and
seems to honour it quite well. So another thought would be to set the system
locale to C.UTF-8 or something similar if the selected locale is not supported,
and maybe show a warning to the user?

[kdeconnect] [Bug 411527] Phone gets disconnected. You have to turn on the phone screen to resume KDEConnect pairing.

I have the same problem here.

It seemed to be related to the fact that I paired another phone. But even
though I removed the pairing, for the old phone, reinstalled kdeconnect on my
own phone, deleted kdeconnect configuration on my PC (debian testing... ie
debian stable as of this writing)... Nothing seems to work.

My phone is among the known devices in kdeconnect configuration window with the
"unpair" button (meaning that it has already been paired) however the phone
gets disconnected (Samsung S21) and once I wake it up, it won't connect
automatically like before. Starting the app show a big button to ask for a new
pairing (wtf : it has already been paired !).
Several pairing requests are needed in order for the connection to be
established once again since a lot of time a "time expired" messages appears on
the phone (with or without a pairing information note on the desktop).

No firewall has been (ab)used in these tests.

Hey! I just checked! If I reactivate IPv6 on my system, both IPv4 and IPv6 are
available through kstatsviewer and plasma-systemmonitor. That is the only way.

That's weird!

[Powerdevil] [Bug 440947] Option to delay shutdown prompt/poweroff activation

The idea is to prevent accidental shutdowns, so a delay instead of a tap to
bring up the shutdown prompt I believe would be able to squash this..

These changes are intentional. The size was incorrect before, and was larger
than intended. Using the Plasma Wayland session would have also resulted in
your icons getting smaller, because it uses a different and more correct
scaling method, revealing the intended icon size all along. :0
