[okular] [Bug 440986] Okular is able to overwrite read-only files
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440986 argonel changed: What|Removed |Added CC||argo...@gmail.com --- Comment #3 from argonel --- (In reply to Adriano Vilela from comment #0) > I reported this on a Debian mailing list (I'm using Debian Testing), and > somebody suggested that this probably happens because Okular is saving the > modifications to a temporary file and then deleting the original file and > writing the temporary file to a new file with the same name as the original > file. I understand that. However, I think that this behavior is unexpected > and very problematic. That description is almost correct. What actually happens is that the file is saved as a new file which is then renamed to have the old file's name. This method of saving a file is to preserve the original data if something goes wrong during save, taking advantage of the POSIX rules regarding renaming files. A discussion about why the lack of a "write" permission doesn't make a file "read-only" belongs elsewhere, but the "write" permission doesn't apply to the file's name (or any of its other metadata). A proper solution for truly making files "read-only" isn't in Okular's scope, but to be friendly Okular could check to see if the file is "writable" and prompt if it isn't. (In reply to David Hurka from comment #2) > This is AFAIK the only way of saving files that is used by existing > applications. Modifying files in-place maybe makes sense for databases, > which Okular isn’t. The lack of a "write" permission actually _prevents_ "in-place" modification, so technically the behavior here is correct. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

SUMMARY I followed the install and usage directions. No subtitle text is created. Looking at Bug 439757, I made sure vosk is version 0.3.30. I tried with these appimages: kdenlive-21.04.3b-x86_64.appimage kdenlive-21.11.70-9295653-x86_64.appimage STEPS TO REPRODUCE Install steps 1. Followed the steps for installing the python software. 2. Followed the steps for installing the models. Installed in "custom" dir: ~/Downloads/vosk-model-small-en-us-0.15/ 3 Clicked on "Check configuration" button Saw "Speech to text is properly configured." Apparently, the configuration check is not checking enough, because speech2text didn't work. Steps to reproduce 1. Started a new project: speech2text-test.kdenlive 2. Added a video clip with some spoken English audio 3. Defined a short 10sec in/out zone on the timeline 4. Selected the "Edit Subtitle Tool" icon 5. In the Subtitles track, selected the "Speech recognition" icon 6. Selected "Timeline zone (all tracks)", and vosk-model-small-en-us-0.15 7. Clicked on "Process" OBSERVED RESULT * Saw a progress bar for less than a second. * Then, "Subtitles imported" * There was no title text in the subtitle track * An *empty* speech2text-test.kdenlive.srt file was created EXPECTED RESULT * I expected to see some subtitle text in the track and in the srt file. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441019 Bug ID: 441019 Summary: Location of Collections 'Confused' by Same-Model External Drives Product: digikam Version: 7.3.0 Platform: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Database-Media Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: sh...@forge.co.tt Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY While my Digikam database lives on my internal drive (as recommended), my photograph files live on an external. If I have another external of a similar make and model as my photography drive plugged in before launching Digikam, the software seems to 'become confused' about which of the externals the photographs reside. The evidence of this I've seen more than once when consulting my 'Configure digicam' settings menu: The path to my 'Collection' shifts from my correct external to the other one. Changing the settings seems to make no difference; Upon saving the path seems to immediately and automatically revert to the incorrect location. I need to unplug the other external in order to proceed. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Save Digikam database locally; 2. Save photography files onto an external harddrive; 3. Close Digikam; 4. Plug in a second external harddrive of a similar make and model as the first; 5. Launch Digikam. OBSERVED RESULT The settings for 'Collection' show that the path to the photographs changes from the first external to the second. EXPECTED RESULT Path to the collection should remain unchanged. [kdenlive] [Bug 441014] New: Editing Guides
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441014 Bug ID: 441014 Summary: Editing Guides Product: kdenlive Version: 21.04.2 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: User Interface Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org Reporter: id012c3...@blueyonder.co.uk Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I was editing a video and had 4 Guides on the timeline. The first 2 had been named and I had two others un-named. The cursor was on the second (named) guide, but the two un-named guides were visible and I wanted to name one of those. I right-clicked one of those guides and selected "Edit Guide" - but the guide which was edited was the one where the cursor was, not the one I clicked on. I have noticed that I can only edit a guide when the cursor is on the guide - otherwise it does not give the option th Edit - but it is confusing to be given the option when the cursor is on a totally different guide to the one you click. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Create at least 2 guides on the timeline. 2. Put the cursor on one of the guides. 3. Right-click a different guide, Select Edit OBSERVED RESULT The guide where the cursor is gets edited EXPECTED RESULT The guide you click should either be edited OR not offer Edit as an option. [okular] [Bug 440986] Okular is able to overwrite read-only files
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440986 --- Comment #2 from David Hurka --- (In reply to Adriano Vilela from comment #0) > [...] Okular is saving the > modifications to a temporary file and then deleting the original file and > writing the temporary file to a new file with the same name as the original > file. This is AFAIK the only way of saving files that is used by existing applications. Modifying files in-place maybe makes sense for databases, which Okular isn’t. Anyway, apparently other applications do not overwrite files with mode 0400. (Tested with nano and Kate.) And the problem is not Poppler, because the same behavior occurs with other file types than PDF too. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[neon] [Bug 439978] 5.22.2 and 5.22.3 Consistently Locks Up
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439978 --- Comment #11 from Chris --- I applied more updates yesterday. That brought me to kernel 5.11. Which made the system completely unbootable. I never even see grub. It just locks up on the "Gigabyte" splash screen (the maker of my motherboard). To my surprise, I found that if I tapped escape, I could get into grub if the timing was just right. I booted into kernel 5.8.0-63 and it worked! I ran this for about 24 hours, and it never complained. Again, I thought I was in the clear. A few moments ago, I noticed it wanted two more updates: Gnome Application platform 3.38 and KDE 5.15. I applied these -- now I'm back to where I was before. Everything just locks up, I get weird behaviors and I see nvidia drm errors. I noticed that the last several times the system was offering these two packages after applying system updates. They just might be the actual problem here, I'm thinking. As a side note -- I have another neon system I'm using as the base for my Linux audio Daw. I use the repos there to get all my DAW related packages and guitar effects etc. The last update completely killed that system too -- the update that brought it to 5.11. It just came up to a black screen, and I had to do a system rescue. I was able to back that one down to 5.8.0-63, and it is running again... that is also a gigabyte board z390 designaire -- which is an intel board, so that was surprising. It also has a gigabyte card with proprietary drivers (which must be used due to excessive interrupts caused by neouveau). That is 2 of 3 systems I use that have been unusable under the updates that have been going out over the past couple months. It might be a coincidence, I don't know. But I thought I should mention it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441013 Bug ID: 441013 Summary: yakuake-21.08 highlight terminals when moving focus -> highlighting does not correctly disappear Product: yakuake Version: 21.08.0 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: h...@kde.org Reporter: till2.schae...@uni-dortmund.de Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 140756 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=140756=edit video of yakuakes highlighting bug SUMMARY When using the "configure -> appearance -> highlight terminals when moving focus between between them" feature, yakuake used to highlight the focused terminal (by adding a collored overlay) for a short period of time, and returns to normal appearance afterwards. After upgrading to version 21.08, the highlighted area stays highlighted until some other operation updates it. This also results in partially removed highlighting in the lines that re currently updated only. For example, the line of the bash prompt returns to non-hihglighted appearance when typing something, while the rest of the terminal stays highlighted. Also see the attached video for a visual example. The bottom two options are Run and Back, neither of which makes sense in this context. Run does not make sense because what are you supposed to "run"? An action like "Share with device" would make more sense here, as you are supposed to select a device to share with in the context of this window. Back does not make sense because the window is separate from the main Dolphin context. I have assumed this is named the way it is because of mobile file sharing being more common, but "Cancel" seems more appropriate in either scenario. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Right-click a file 2. From the Share menu, select Share via Bluetooth 3. Observe the dialog wording OBSERVED RESULT The wording on the action buttons does not make sense in the context. [plasmashell] [Bug 441010] New: Plasma breaks system locale when a locale which is not supported by the system is selected
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441010 Bug ID: 441010 Summary: Plasma breaks system locale when a locale which is not supported by the system is selected Product: plasmashell Version: 5.22.4 Platform: Fedora RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk Reporter: r...@nanosector.nl CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: 1.0 Created attachment 140752 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=140752=edit An example of a locale configured while the system does not support it SUMMARY I could not find a dedicated Bugzilla project for plasma-workspace, so I filed it here; I'm sorry if this is incorrect. Plasma lists *all* locales in its Formats KCM (System Settings -> Regional Settings -> Formats), even ones which are not supported by the underlying system, unlike the Language KCM. Setting one of these unsupported locales breaks some software which relies on proper locale configuration and causes warnings in others. For example, Minecraft's launcher no longer launches and crashes, and DNF throws warnings. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open the Formats KCM; 2. Set an unsupported locale by your system, for example nl_EN; 3. Restart your session and observe application behaviour. OBSERVED RESULT The Minecraft launcher breaks and DNF and other programs throw locale errors. > Failed to set locale, defaulting to C.UTF-8 EXPECTED RESULT Plasma should not break the locale settings the way it currently does and all programs should continue working. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Fedora 34 KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.83.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 Kernel Version: 5.13.9-200.fc34.x86_64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz Memory: 15,4 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 5500 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION >From what I could find in the repos, the Formats KCM relies on the output of QLocale::matchingLocales: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/blob/master/kcms/formats/kcmformats.cpp#L72 This method, https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qlocale.html#matchingLocales , in turn relies on a list of locale data built in to Qt: https://github.com/qt/qtbase/blob/dev/src/corelib/text/qlocale_data_p.h#L79-L88 A possible solution therefore would be to filter the list given by Qt on locales known by the system. On top of this, Plasma itself seems to not have any issues with the locale and seems to honour it quite well. So another thought would be to set the system locale to C.UTF-8 or something similar if the selected locale is not supported, and maybe show a warning to the user? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
