[kde] [Bug 441934] New: Media controls don't recognize when media players terminate
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441934 Bug ID: 441934 Summary: Media controls don't recognize when media players terminate Product: kde Version: unspecified Platform: Debian unstable OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org Reporter: david.cortes.riv...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY After an update to plasma 5.21.5, the media controls (the kind that by default show as a tray icon with a play button and allow pausing and playing next track) do not recognize when a media-playing application terminates, keeping the controls for a media that was previous playing after it is closed. The only media-playing app that deactivates the controls correctly after closing is the plasma browser integration (tested in a chromium-based browser). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Add a media control widget to the taskbar so that media controls will be clearly visible, ideally choosing some widget that would display the name of the media that is playing to make the bug more clear. 2. Play some video or audio file through e.g. JuK, VLC, or whatever other app (save for web browsers which still work correctly). 3. Either close the app that was playing media, or stop the media that was playing through the button that looks like a square (if the app has it). Perhaps make sure the app was killed from ksysguard as an optional step. OBSERVED RESULT The media controls keep triggered with the media that is not playing anymore, but do not do anything since the application they try to control is no longer running. EXPECTED RESULT Should deactivate once the media-playing application terminates or the media itself terminates (e.g. video reaches the end). SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.85.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441919 --- Comment #1 from David --- Funny thing: this applet will actually work correctly (redshift is activated and changing the configuration from this applet is effective) if I leave it running alongside the gnome redshift control applet. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 441910] plasmashell re-reads zoneinfo file many times every second
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441910 --- Comment #2 from V --- Okay I've nailed it down - it's a "Digital Clock" widget issue. Right-click the digital clock on the panel, then open "Configure Digital Clock..." and check the "Show seconds" checkbox, and then plasmashell will start to read the zoneinfo file 30-40 times every single second. P.S. there is a wrong command in my first comment - in "fatrace -p PID_OF_PLASMASHELL" the "-p" option will _ignore_ the provided PID, so a right command is: sudo timeout 3s fatrace 2>&1 | grep "($(pidof plasmashell))" | grep R | wc -l -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440103 davidkace...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added Status|NEEDSINFO |REPORTED Platform|Manjaro |openSUSE RPMs Resolution|WAITINGFORINFO |--- Version|5.22.2 |5.18.6 --- Comment #4 from davidkace...@gmail.com --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #2) > What does `pkmon` say (from a terminal window) while Discover is stuck? Since the OP doesn't respond, I'm taking over because of having the same problem, although on a different OS and KDE version. I've found out, the problem gets away while switching back-ends from PackageKit-backend-zypp -> PackageKit-backend-dnf. This might indicate a bug in the Zypp back-end, however, with DNF, there are no respositories set in Discover settings except "lvfs - Linux Vendor Firmware Service" so DNF has got some mitigating circumstance. Moreover, If I disable all repositories while using the Zypp back-end, the problem goes away too. I've also checked I'm not stuck while running "pkcon get-updates" so likely the problem is not within the Zypp backend but in Discover. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kate] [Bug 441929] New: Should show file name first when "Show path in titlebar" is active
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441929 Bug ID: 441929 Summary: Should show file name first when "Show path in titlebar" is active Product: kate Version: 21.08.1 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: zl...@hotmail.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 141260 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=141260=edit Unable to see the actual file name in a taskbar with narrow items SUMMARY "Show Path in Titlebar" in both Kate and KWrite is a very useful feature, enabling the user to always be aware of exactly which file is being edited in his file system, avoiding the risk of confusion. However, the most important information, the file name itself, is sometimes difficult to pinpoint in a first glance. Currently the titlebar is displayed in this format: / — KWrite i;e: ~/src/kernel/archlinux/include/linux/compiler_types.h — KWrite Since we are naturally trained to read from left to right, we have to skim through the full path before we reach the file name itself, which is slightly under-productive. Even worse, the file name itself becomes unreadable if you are using the "Task Manager" in a populated bottom panel (see screenshot). So I believe it is good practice to show the file name first, to the left of the file's directory path, something like: "" — — KWrite" Maybe the character "—" is not the ideal separator between the file name and the directory, as alternatives maybe we could use "@" or ":" or even something else entirely. So for my example we would have: compiler_types.h — ~/src/kernel/archlinux/include/linux/ — KWrite compiler_types.h @ ~/src/kernel/archlinux/include/linux/ — KWrite compiler_types.h : ~/src/kernel/archlinux/include/linux/ — KWrite STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Enable the feature in Kwrite/Kate menus: Settings -> Show Path in Titlebar OBSERVED RESULT The titlebar shows the full path before the file name, in the format: "/ — KWrite" EXPECTED RESULT The titlebar should show the file name first: " — — KWrite" SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Kate/KWrite: 21.08.1 Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.85.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION N/A -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 395725] Blur effect applied to decoration shadows
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395725 William changed: What|Removed |Added CC||wi11ia...@pm.me --- Comment #46 from William --- not an expert here just wondering about there just being an easy fix perhaps: Since blur is not part of the themes or window-decorations and if a user customizes his desktop with any combination of themes, to achive blur he will also have to go into the effects to activate it. Now here is my thaught: Why not just make the blur corner radius configurable in the blur effect settings. yes then it is just manual but users configure the blur str aso anyways when they customize their desktop. All this automatic detection stuff is maybe just unneccessary. Just a thaught from a different perspective after reading about this issue alot: take it as you wish, not an expert here on the technical side, just dont underestimate the KDE powerusers that are affected by this. they know how to configure themes and alot of stuff why not this too. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 441312] Add window titles and icons
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441312 --- Comment #12 from Manuel Geißer --- Well, obviously I disagree very much. > Without relatively big icons, the whole overview effect will become useless > for me. *With* icons it becomes useless. The purpose of an overview effect is to quickly recognise open applications by their content, by what they look like. Icons don't tell you anything about what the window is for, what work you want to do in there. Icons don't help at all to get an overview, to see what is going on in different windows. > my first search is for the icon, the second one is for the miniature If the icon/text overlay is over-large / centered, it gets too difficult identify and memorise the content, which is the primary purpose of Overview. Icons-based app management is already available with the task bar. Icons are used just about everywhere and I tend to find them disgusting because they usually have very little logical connection to what the app actually does. > So if the new overview effect lacked of those, IT WOULD BE A MAJOR REGRESSION > and you would get flowed with bug reports, at least from persons who use > overview effect. To be clear, removing these annoying overlays would be an IMPROVEMENT and a nice step towards clean, usable code without non-features. > If I see only miniatures and I can't filter out anything, it's like a > spinning carousel and I can't make heads of tails of what I see. It takes too > long to recognize anything, and the whole effect would be useless. Absolutely not. With the visual pattern the whole window makes up, it's very nice to identify, and you can see what is going on inside the window, compare windows, watch windows simultaneously, etc. In contrast, icons are way too generic. Overview is about *specific open windows*, not about the app in general. > So the icons are a must, even with multiple instances. No. Really no. They just make it harder to distinguish multiple instances and hide relevant content. They're nothing more than an annoyance. > Will the current options be upheld in the new version? I see no reasons why > wouldn't they be. Believe me, I see many, many good reasons. > Also, the current default icons+titles is a reasonable one IMO. I would rather think about whether it is worth the effort being implemented at all (especially with Overview being in such an early beta stage), but most clearly icons+titles shouln't be the default. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
