[Falkon] [Bug 453524] New: UserStyle manager
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453524 Bug ID: 453524 Summary: UserStyle manager Product: Falkon Version: unspecified Platform: unspecified OS: Unspecified Status: REPORTED Severity: minor Priority: NOR Component: extensions Assignee: now...@gmail.com Reporter: genghisk...@gmx.ca Target Milestone: --- Please add to Greasemonkey extension ability to manage UserStyles https://userbase.kde.org/Falkon#User_Style Extension that is both Userscript and userstyle manager https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firemonkey/ Objective The code requires to manipulate CSS with a UserStyle is shorter, cleaner and easier to read. Here are a couple of (complex) ways to handle CSS with UserScript First: function addGlobalStyle(css) { var head, style; head = document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0]; if (!head) { return; } style = document.createElement('style'); style.type = 'text/css'; style.innerHTML = css; head.appendChild(style); } We send to this function a one-line stylesheet (not readable) or a multiple lined stylesheet which has the sign \ at end of each line (hardens on cut and paste). Second: function hide(property) { const div = document.querySelector(property); div.style.display = "none" } switch (window.location.hostname) { case 'unix.stackexchange.com': case 'stackoverflow.com': hide('div.js-consent-banner'); break; } The second way, even when has more code, should work on any render engine which makes it even more powerful than a UserStyle. Still, I find a UserStyle manager a useful extension nonetheless. As written above, the code requires to manipulate CSS with a UserStyle is shorter, cleaner and easier to read. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

For that to actually work there should be significantly lower delay to power off screen when it is still locked. [frameworks-kded] [Bug 453280] kded5 leaks X-Window connections: Maximum number of clients reached
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453280 Phil Hord changed: What|Removed |Added CC||phil.h...@gmail.com --- Comment #2 from Phil Hord --- I tracked when the leaks occur. For me it happens when my screen is locked. I have multiple monitors and sometimes there are issues with one of the monitors waking up. I don't know if that's related. Restarting kded5 does free up most of the connections. When it restarts it creates about 4 new connections. The count remains at 4 until my PC screen locks again. Then it gradually increases over time while locked. For example, today I left my desk from 2:50 until about 5:15. I left this script running to record changes in the number of kded5 X11 connections while I was gone. At 5:19 I ran "kded5 --replace & disown" in another terminal session. prev=0 ; while sleep 5 ; do count=$(sudo ss -x src "*/tmp/.X11-unix/*" | grep -Eo "[0-9]+\\s*$" | while read port ; do sudo ss -p -x | grep -w $port | grep -v X11-unix ; done | grep -Eo '".+"' | grep -c kded5) ; test $prev -eq $count || echo $count $(date) ; prev=$count; done 4 Sat 07 May 2022 12:07:47 PM PDT 8 Sat 07 May 2022 03:09:19 PM PDT 11 Sat 07 May 2022 03:19:27 PM PDT 12 Sat 07 May 2022 03:19:34 PM PDT 16 Sat 07 May 2022 03:29:37 PM PDT 20 Sat 07 May 2022 03:39:50 PM PDT 24 Sat 07 May 2022 03:57:08 PM PDT 28 Sat 07 May 2022 04:12:36 PM PDT 32 Sat 07 May 2022 04:22:46 PM PDT 34 Sat 07 May 2022 04:32:52 PM PDT 36 Sat 07 May 2022 04:33:00 PM PDT 40 Sat 07 May 2022 04:51:13 PM PDT 42 Sat 07 May 2022 05:01:20 PM PDT 44 Sat 07 May 2022 05:01:29 PM PDT 48 Sat 07 May 2022 05:12:32 PM PDT 3 Sat 07 May 2022 05:19:48 PM PDT 4 Sat 07 May 2022 05:19:55 PM PDT -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[valgrind] [Bug 452802] Handle lld 9+ split RW PT_LOAD segments correctly
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452802 --- Comment #10 from Paul Floyd --- OK, this is to do with how the ELF exe or shared lib gets loaded. There are 3 cases. 1. the tool itself, already loaded and we look at the maps and work backwards to get NSegments and dinfo. 2. The client (and interpreter). We read the ELF headers and do the loading afterwards. That means the NSegments are done before the mmaping and dinfo loading occurs. 3. Any client shared libraries. These get loaded by the interpreter when the client is running under the host, we intercept the mmap calls and add NSegments and mmap/dinfo. The problem is in point 2 when there is a merge of the NSegements. That will result in just one call to VG_(di_notify_mmap) for the merged segement. And VG_(di_notify_mmap) needs two calls when the ELF headers contain 2 RW PT_LOADs. Maybe I need to use both (looking at NSegments for client load, looking at the ELF headers for a shared lib load). In that case I need to know which context VG_(di_notify_mmap) is being called from. Mayb the elf header e_type could do that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[dolphin] [Bug 411349] Dolphin 100% CPU core usage
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411349 --- Comment #19 from Méven Car --- (In reply to Emanuele Spirito from comment #18) > Created attachment 148590 [details] > Core usage returned normal > > Important: see (above left in the screen) that, respect to other > screenshots, I changed Dolphin view from "icon view" to "detailed view" Thank you for the effort of providing information. Screenshots have low value unfortunately, and don’t help finding out the origin of the issue. We can’t confirm what your are experiencing is the same bug. > The core usage returned normal (near 2%) after I changed the view of Dolphin > from "icon view" to "detailed view" (I tried also the "compact view" but that > change didn't make anything in core usage). This is a clue, the Icon View and compact are internally using the same code, whereas details is separated. The most important information though is to find a reliable way to reproduce the symptoms that a developer could reproduce then. Until we don’t a way to reproduce or pinpoint the origin of the issue, we are clueless. The recommended path to give actionable intel here, would be a trace using gdb or https://github.com/KDAB/hotspot. Those technics require debugging symbols. It might be out of your skill. It still helps to update bugs to inform devs which bugs are still effectively hurting users and which ones are more common. So thanks for the effort anyway. This bug is too generic now, the original trace was good but I couldn’t do anything with, since I can’t reproduce, browsing files and folders. The second bug reported here got fixed https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=426617 And you Emanuele might be experiencing a third with the same kind of symptoms but a different origin as far as I can tell. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kate] [Bug 453493] Freezes while loading php files from nfs mounted volume
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453493 Christoph Cullmann changed: What|Removed |Added CC||cullm...@kde.org --- Comment #1 from Christoph Cullmann --- Hi, I use Kate daily even with NFS mounted home directories, I have never had such a lag. I strongly doubt this is a issue in Kate, for local files (e.g. all mounted stuff) we just do plain QFile open and read/write (aka local file handling). During load we don't do anything else, perhaps just walking some directories upwards to detect config files. As a try, do other applications behave the same? e.g. what does happen for KWrite? And what does happen for a completely different one like gEdit or Atom? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[valgrind] [Bug 452802] Handle lld 9+ split RW PT_LOAD segments correctly
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452802 --- Comment #9 from Paul Floyd --- I've gone with plan A. In ULong VG_(di_notify_mmap) I replaced the call to ML_(is_elf_object_file) with a call to a new function ML_(check_elf_and_get_rw_loads) . This is an ultra-stripped down version of ML_(read_elf_debug_info) that just 1. calls ML_(is_elf_object_file) and then 2. iterates over the PHDRs counting RW PT_LOADs Also modified ML_(read_elf_debug_info) to count RW mappings, look for a second one if the count is two and to use this second rw mapping if present for bss data and got.plt The good news is that this fixes all of the failures in varinfo5 like this - Address 0x is 7 bytes inside data symbol "static_local_undef." + Address 0x is in a rw- mapped file /usr/home/paulf/scratch/valgrind/memcheck/tests/varinfo5so.so segment (not reading debuginfo in shared libraries correctly) The bad news is that I'm getting 3 new failures < == 759 tests, 13 stderr failures, 0 stdout failures, 0 stderrB failures, 0 stdoutB failures, 0 post failures == --- > == 759 tests, 16 stderr failures, 0 stdout failures, 0 stderrB failures, 0 > stdoutB failures, 0 post failures == 2212a2220 > drd/tests/annotate_hb_race (stderr) 2217a2226,2227 > none/tests/mmap_fcntl_bug(stderr) > none/tests/vgprintf (stderr) --pid-- di_notify_mmap-0: --pid-- di_notify_mmap-1: 0x20-0x200fff r-- --pid-- di_notify_mmap-2: /usr/home/paulf/scratch/valgrind/none/tests/vgprintf --pid-- di_notify_mmap-3: is_rx_map 0, is_rw_map 0, is_ro_map 1 --pid-- di_notify_mmap-4: noting details in DebugInfo* at 0x40247C220 --pid-- di_notify_mmap-6: no dinfo loaded /usr/home/paulf/scratch/valgrind/none/tests/vgprintf (no rx or no rw mapping) --pid-- di_notify_mmap-0: --pid-- di_notify_mmap-1: 0x201000-0x201fff r-x --pid-- di_notify_mmap-2: /usr/home/paulf/scratch/valgrind/none/tests/vgprintf --pid-- di_notify_mmap-3: is_rx_map 1, is_rw_map 0, is_ro_map 0 --pid-- di_notify_mmap-4: noting details in DebugInfo* at 0x40247C220 --pid-- di_notify_mmap-6: no dinfo loaded /usr/home/paulf/scratch/valgrind/none/tests/vgprintf (no rx or no rw mapping) --pid-- di_notify_mmap-0: --pid-- di_notify_mmap-1: 0x202000-0x203fff rw- --pid-- di_notify_mmap-2: /usr/home/paulf/scratch/valgrind/none/tests/vgprintf --pid-- di_notify_mmap-3: is_rx_map 0, is_rw_map 1, is_ro_map 0 --pid-- di_notify_mmap-4: noting details in DebugInfo* at 0x40247C220 --pid-- di_notify_mmap-6: no dinfo loaded /usr/home/paulf/scratch/valgrind/none/tests/vgprintf (no rx or no rw mapping) Here is the problem. The plasma desktop provides a Switch User option that is quite dangerous. If you select that functionality and you do not have another user to log in as, then you are locked out of your machine. In fact: - I you select `switch user`, you are presented with a login screen and *there is no way* to go back. - If you have a single user or you do not know the credentials of other users, the only thing you can do at this point is to try to log in with your credentials - If you do so, a new session is opened with the same username as one that was already open and this locks up plasma. This should not happen. a) If you select `switch user`, there should always be a cancel button. b) If you try to log in again as the same user and the same session type, this should be recognized and the existing session should be used, rather than trying to start a new session for the same user and the same desktop type, which cannot work. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Login to plasma 2. Select Switch User from the menu 3. Try to get back to work by entering your credentials OBSERVED RESULT KDE locks up EXPECTED RESULT KDE should never lock up and prevent situations causing it to lock up. [kwin] [Bug 452119] Poor performance on intel igp on wayland versus Xorg
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452119 --- Comment #16 from kde@grau.net --- (In reply to Zamundaaa from comment #9) > I don't know how to check the memory clock on Intel systems, searching for > it doesn't yield results for the dynamic memory speed either. > > We can just check for it differently though: If you start glxgears and leave > that running instead of the fps effect, does that make KWin run smooth? As this is a built-in GPU without dedicated memory, I don't think that the memory clock actually changes depending on the GPU load. The memory is shared with the CPU, so the memory clock should not change. Leaving glxgears running, it achieves about 60fps. When I start moving a window the FPS drop to about 30-40 and the window movement is still choppy and not smooth. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 453506] New: Need to kick hotkeys on release, not press
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453506 Bug ID: 453506 Summary: Need to kick hotkeys on release, not press Product: kwin Version: 5.24.4 Platform: Manjaro OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: wayland-generic Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: chibiry...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** Key combinations are consumed on press, not on release which leads to inability to activate some combinations at all. Let's say that I have 2 languages/layouts installed and I want my hotkey be CTRL+SHIFT to switch them. I will be unable to do any combination that has CTRL+SHIFT in it, like CTRL+SHIFT+S (Save as... in Kate) or CTRL+SHIFT+CURSOR_ARROW to select words one by one in a text, for example. Basically, it's a copy of this ancient xorg bug which will never be fixed upstream: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/258 *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Have 2 languages/layouts installed 2. Make them switch using hotkey CTRL+SHIFT 3. Open Kate and type "The quick brown dog" 4. CTRL+SHIFT+<- (LEFT ARROW) to select the last word 5. Type "fox" OBSERVED RESULT The layout had been switched on the 4 step (before you pressed an arrow, because the hotkey was consumed on press) and there was no word selection, instead of "fox" you typed some other symbols in another language/layout, resulting in a sentence "The quick brown ащчdog" (Cyrillic symbols for example) EXPECTED RESULT Layout switching didn't occur, you selected the word "dog" and it was replaced with newly typed "fox", resulting in a sentence "The quick brown fox" SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.15.32-1-MANJARO (64-bit) (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0 Qt Version: 5.15.3 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I was very disappointed in finding out that this behaviour is present in wayland, because I was convinced that this would be fixed there from the start (there are a couple of posts about it dating 10 or so years ago), since it's basic and core functionality that was present on windows forever (and in many linux distros for a long time when maintainers just silently patched xorg by default). I'm not sure if it's a KWin issue or just Wayland, but there's was a similar Weston bug reported in the git some time ago, so I assumed it had to do with a compositor. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 452119] Poor performance on intel igp on wayland versus Xorg
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452119 kde@grau.net changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|CONFIRMED Ever confirmed|0 |1 --- Comment #15 from kde@grau.net --- I also noticed a significant slowdown and increased choppiness when switching from X11 to Wayland. I ran intel_cpu_info on both desktops and attached the output for idle desktops and while moving/dragging a chrome browser window around with the mouse. When run interactively, intel_gpu_top shows values of 1 Mhz and about 220 Mhz for the idle and moving window szenario on X11, respctively. For Wayland, the numbers are 5-10 Mhz and about 400 Mhz. When the output is logged to a file, the numbers look differently for idle case, though. It looks as if the frequency actually drops a lot more often to single digit values on wayland in idle, whereas it seems to stay in the 100-200 Mhz range on an idle desktop in X11. When moving the window around, we see much higher gpu frequencies on Wayland (around 400Mhz) vs around 250Mhz on X11. So it seems that wayland requires higher gpu frequencies and while still not achieving the smooth result of X11. I did enable the show fps effect, but noticed only a small improvement. I did notice, however, that dragging a window around with this effect active causes much higher gpu frequencies (around 700 Mhz). Please note, that the numbers should only be taken as an indication, as the tests were conducted using manual input/mouse movements. while other applications have been running. They do show, however, that wayland currently puts a much higher burden on this intel GPU. I don't know much about gfx drives on linux. Is the same driver stack used for wayland vs X11? Just wondering if the likes of mesa might have an influence on this, or if this is definitely a kwin-wayland vs kwin-x11 issue. Please let me know if there is anything else that I can do to provide more information to help get to the cause of this issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
