Sounds more like:
 - kwallet was set up and working exactly as indented
 - we have a startup order race with something requesting a password before
kwallet Pam kicks in. We've seen that before. I'll search for dupes.

Ultimately this is a bug tracker for a product. Comments such as suggesting a
security breach based on nothing are counter productive.

Can you attach output of "env" in a terminal and ideally journalctl --user -b
after login.

I Agree. Last hint: You can reach the bookmarks by ToolBar. Settings->Show

Well, when you dislike the toolbar in general, like me, is that not a true

[kdevelop] [Bug 454462] New: Editor is extremely laggy

2022-05-26 Thread Aaron Williams
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454462

Bug ID: 454462
   Summary: Editor is extremely laggy
   Product: kdevelop
   Version: 5.8.220401
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: UI: general
  Assignee: kdevelop-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: aar...@doofus.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
While editing my C projects the editor is often extremely laggy, sometimes
taking seconds to catch up.
This is running on a 12 core machine with 128GiB of RAM with all data on an
nVME SSD.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a moderately sized C project
2. Edit C files
3. Experience frequent lag in the editor

OBSERVED RESULT
I observe very noticeable lag frequently in the editor, perhaps related to the
code completion. I have Clazy Levels 0 and 1 enabled. This is using the C
custom script formatter using Clang Format.

EXPECTED RESULT
I expect the editor to respond quickly like previous releases

I am also wondering if this is related to the problem which causes KDevelop to
hang when shutting down where a database appears to be getting corrupted.

This bug affects Android 12 (Lineage OS 19.1 on Poco F1) as well. Dunno how I

the permissions were carried over from my previous install. I recently did a

Random freezes can be due to other reasons than plasma. I used to get random
freezes due to resetting of my GPU driver on launching chromium/electron and
had to add a kernel parameter to fix it.

Nevertheless, this can be a plasma bug and for crashes we need a crash report
to proceed. You can refer the guide here:

[Active Window Control] [Bug 454461] New: Desktop randomly freezes with unclear cause

2022-05-26 Thread BOF
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454461

Bug ID: 454461
Summary: Desktop randomly freezes with unclear cause
   Product: Active Window Control
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: zrenf...@gmail.com
  Reporter: bugs_kde_org.5.k...@spamgourmet.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When I use KDE neon the desktop seems to sometimes randomly freeze.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
I have no idea how to reproduce this bug. First it seemed to be related to
Opera, because it would often freeze when I opened a new window, but recently I
got the same freeze when I opened JOSM.
The only thing I did was to open a Windows: So for Opera: Right Click + New
(private) Window. When I got the freeze with JOSM I opened it through the start
menu

OBSERVED RESULT
The desktop freezes entirely. If music or a video is playing, the audio enters
a loop of about 2 seconds. The desktop does not react to anything anymore. No
clicks, no mouse, no keypresses, no Ctrl + Alt + F6 - nothing.
When I had some time I let the PC sit and see if it does somehow get back on
it's feet. Since it did not change after 20 minutes I gave up.
The only 'fix' I could work out is to hard reset the PC.

EXPECTED RESULT
A nice BSOD crash would help since it would save me the work or pressing the
restart button.
Optionally I would of course prefer the system to not-crash and not-freeze
since it's usually bad for the workflow :-)

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: KDE neon 5.24
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.94.0
Qt Version: 5.15.4
Kernel Version: 5.13.0-44-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 30.8 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD RENOIR

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have no idea if this is the right component since I have no idea what even
causes the crash.

I read about random freezes online with other distros as well which describe a
similar pattern on Debian (Including Ubuntu) and Arch (including Manjaro) based
systems. Though I have no idea if they are related or not.

When you have a dozen or more bookmarks, you don't necessarily remember/care

Screen edge action on top left corner only triggered on secondary smaller
monitor which is on the left. (See image attached.)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set up two displays, one of them being smaller. Position the smaller one on
the left so that its right edge is in contact with the left edge of the bigger
monitor and their bases are at the same level(the top of the left edge of the
bigger monitor is isolated, makes no contact with the left display).

That is the culprit, there is however no information about why it failed.
To get more information, please execute the script from

[plasmashell] [Bug 454458] New: Add options to show panel on all displays

2022-05-26 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454458

Bug ID: 454458
Summary: Add options to show panel on all displays
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.24.5
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jackygu...@hotmail.com
CC: niccolo.venera...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

With multi-monitor setups, you effectively need to recreate your panel each
time you connect a new display. This can become quite tedious.

I propose that the configuration menu for panels includes an option to set the
currently selected panel to show on all displays. This is useful for panels
used in a similar fashion to the taskbar on Windows. Obviously, there should be
a way to override this for some monitors, but I am not sure how it should be
implemented.

A similar issue was filed for KDE Plasma 4 here
[https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=281463], but was shelved due to KDE
Plasma 4 reaching EOL.

Please add
QT_LOGGING_RULES="kwin_wayland_*.debug=true"
into your /etc/environment and reboot. Then attach your monitor and
journalctl --boot 0 --user-unit plasma-kwin_wayland | grep kwin_wayland_drm

What could also be useful is the output of drm_info, with the monitor attached

[systemsettings] [Bug 454445] It would be nice if RGB range: Automatic would also display the currently chosen value

2022-05-26 Thread Zamundaaa
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454445

It would indeed be nice, sadly the driver doesn't currently expose that sort of
information to us. It's a known problem and will hopefully be tackled soon™
with all the other color management stuff being worked on. However, I fully
expect it to still take a long while to be done.
Other than just waiting for that kernel fix, we could also
1. roll our own automatic detection. Something basic should be pretty quick to
set up, although it may depend on us parsing more edid info (which I'd like to
avoid diving into until we can use libedid to take care of that for us). Or
2. remove the automatic option completely and always default to full rgb range.
Something like 98% of monitors and TVs out there have that and new ones should
all be full rgb range, so it likely wouldn't be that bad.

Both have the problem that they can cause unexpected regressions for some users
with limited rgb TVs though...

SUMMARY
Hey there,
I know this is not the right category, but I don't know where to put it, so I
placed it here. If you know a better component, feel free to move it there. :)

I'm regularly testing other desktop environments to see how they develop and
one thing I noticed and really liked about GNOME is that applications seem to
have very descriptive names in general.
For example, the file explorer is called "Files", the terminal "Terminal" and
the scan application "Document scanner".
In plasma, this is not the case. The file explorer is called "Dolphin", the
terminal is called "Konsole" and the document scanner is called "Skanlight".
How should an inexperienced user know that Dolphin is a file manager, other
than looking on the icon and trying?
I think, I wouldn't.
GNOME's file manager also has an internal name, Nautilus. But it's not exposed
to the user directly.
I think Plasma should do this as well. Use descriptive, direct names throughout
the DE, to make it easier accessible for new users.

What are your thoughts?
Are there any explicit reasons why not to do that?

[systemsettings] [Bug 454415] System Settings Icon View appears to not honour single- vs double-click setting

Okay, thanks for confirming that it was intentional. A bit unfortunate, though,
for someone like me coming from a Windows background where single- vs
double-click is consistent throughout. Something to get used to I suppose. A
shame it wasn't that way from the start - I was used to double-click for the
'add widgets' functionality so having double-click add two widgets was
annoying.

[kwin] [Bug 454453] New: Window decoration Blur effect does not work with new setBlurRegion() API on 5.24.90, but always worked on git master

2022-05-26 Thread Paul McAuley

Bug ID: 454453
Summary: Window decoration Blur effect does not work with new
setBlurRegion() API on 5.24.90, but always worked on
git master
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.24.90

  Target Milestone: ---

I have implemented the new setBlurRegion() API for my C++ window decoration
(https://github.com/paulmcauley/classik). This (mostly
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453229) works fine on the git master (and
has for a month or so now), with a blur effect that matches the window shape.

However, when I enable transparency and blur in my window decoration (this
simply calls setBlurRegion() with the window shape) on the 5.24.90 beta I do
not get any blur at all, just transparency.

I have removed the "blur":true line from my .json file (as done by Michail
Vourlakos for Aurorae) . Readding "blur": true to the .json enables blur again
on 5.24.90, but with the kornerbug that the new setBlurRegion API was designed
to fix (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395725).

Command line is not necessarily a preference but if one is abstracting the
layers one needs to cover for what would cause things like dependencies.
For example I had not messed with either apt or dpkg in months yet Kwin
goes hokeynot a good time (lol).

Thank you for the assistance.

Created attachment 149242

Example of a "split panel"

Right now if anyone want's to do anything regarding multiple panels on the same
"line" with a dynamic size (plasmoids like Window title, app menu) or/and
"unifying" them in a single one when a window is maximized (see atachment)
things get messy and overlaps may happen.

If a panel could only draw the background where plasmoids where and pass mouse
input down on empty areas this kind of setup would be far easier and stable.

To indicate a 'empty area' a latte separator could be used, ideally with an
option to mark it as 'empty' in the plasmoid config.

[kwallet-pam] [Bug 453932] I never setup kdewallet, I just started getting prompts for password

2022-05-26 Thread Bob English
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453932

Well, if it's not a bug, then it came without warning out of nowhere.

My system has been running for years with just updates, and I never had Kwallet
manager installed, nor ever seen any prompts from kded, ever, and it just
started about a week or a little more ago. So it is an unexpected behavior
that never happened! So therefore something changed, and it looks and acts
like a bug, or worse: a security breach! That should not be all that hard to
understand.

I did use my user password, but had no way of knowing it would work, and that
still says nothing about why this is happening now, when it never did before.

I had it ask for the password again this morning, but not in a few days, so not
every time I boot up, making it random too, and not giving any reason why, so
no, just giving it my password after I just logged on with it is odd, as well
as annoying! So it is at minimum an undesired behavior and unexplained too,
where just giving it my user password every time it just randomly occurs is not
a solution, but a workaround.

use UTF-8 encoding

markdown is a relative new format

I would assume the majority of markdown files are
either plain ansi or UTF-8

the old code did use the local encoding,
this leads to issues with unicode files

I tested with Dolphin, doesn't seem to have this issue; my guess would be a
difference in how KXmlGui is used by Dolphin and Krusader. The method that
removes the accelerator from action text,
KLocalizedString::removeAcceleratorMarker() is used in a code path that is hit
by Dolphin in KXmlGui but not by Krusader.

You do. It's headless. kwalletmanager is shipped separately if you want it.
You can find a settings modules in system settings.

To avoid password prompts set it to your user password.

I have narrowed this down to the exact setting which causes the issue, and it's
a setting in VLC. I don't know if the bug is specifically with vlc, or with how
VLC talks with dolphin. The video file is irrelevant; it happens when the "Qt
Interface" is enabled in VLC.

Precise steps to reproduce, done on a 100% clean new user I created for this
purpose.

Dolphin version: 22.04
VLC Version: 3.0.17.4
KIO(if it's related): 5.93.0
KIO-extras 22.04

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open VLC
2. Within VLC, navigate Tools > Preferences > Show Settings, and switch the
radio button from "Simple" to "All"
3. Scroll to the "Interface" section, and select "Main Interfaces"
4. Tick the checkmark for "Qt Interface", then save settings.
5. Close VLC entirely.
6. Open Dolphin, navigate to a video file, then right click it, and Open With >
VLC Media Player.
7. Close Dolphin

Result: Both VLC and Dolphin close.

I was going to report this for VLC as well, but after testing both via the
nightly snap package, and compiling the latest git version myself, I could not
reproduce the error on VLC 4.0which is targeted to release by the end of
2022.

SO. for now, for anyone else who comes across this, just disable the qt
interface.

prompt for WiFi credentials, and WiFi was working, but I received the same

[frameworks-kded] [Bug 453280] kded5 leaks X-Window connections: Maximum number of clients reached

2022-05-26 Thread Phil Hord
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453280

If I rotate my screen 180 degrees, I also see the memory leak. This does not
involve any desktop geometry change; no windows get moved or resized, and no
widgets are redrawn. Perhaps this absolves some desktop widget of causing the
issue.

If I switch to a console tty (Ctrl+Alt+F3) and then back to the desktop, no
leak occurs.

It does seem to correlate to kscreen configChanged, as Ian Newton already
pointed out.

Following is from my syslog when I rotate the screen and then subsequently see

[frameworks-kded] [Bug 453280] kded5 leaks X-Window connections: Maximum number of clients reached

2022-05-26 Thread Phil Hord
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453280

I have reinstalled KDE Neon on a new laptop. I have made minimal configuration
changes to the desktop.

I now see that the leak occurs whenever my desktop geometry changes. Without
an external monitor attached, two kded5->X11 client connections are leaked
every time I change the display resolution on the laptop screen.

This was exacerbated before by some instability in my external monitor
connection which apparently caused it to disconnect every 10 minutes while on
the lockscreen. I don't have that same problem on this new laptop, so now my
leaks occur only when I connect or disconnect from my monitors manually.

so we can try to address them without reverting the change or making it

There is empty space on the left side of the file view that you can click in.

Can confirm. Pretty sure this used to work; seems like a regression.

It does however immediately unfreeze and start working normally if the network
connection is restored.

I think the issue you are describing is unrelated to this one as this one is
closely tied to the clipboard applet and can be solved by clearing clipboard. I
remember a similar issue to yours but can't find it.

Does it work with SDDM instead of GDM? Based on the backtrace, I wouldn't
expect it to, but it would be good to check anyway.

[okular] [Bug 454448] New: Printing dialog on Windows looks like it's from 1990

2022-05-26 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454448

Bug ID: 454448
Summary: Printing dialog on Windows looks like it's from 1990
   Product: okular
   Version: 22.04.0
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: printing
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: aron...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 149240
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=149240=edit
it's ugly...

Okular's printing dialog is really ugly on Windows. it's like the system
printing dialog but even worse, with an old 199x style.
It'd be great to have the UI look like the Windows10 print dialog or have a
better Qt replacement for it (even Edge and most Windows apps have their custom
dialog nowadays)

specs.:
CPU 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-1125G4 @ 2.00GHz 1.19 GHz
Memory 8,00 GB
Windows 10 Pro Education 20H2
OS build number 19042.1706
Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4170.0

I would recommend reporting this to the Mesa developers. See

We populate this list with a set of defaults we feel might be relevant to
people. They will of course change over time as you use the system. :) Not sure
there's a real issue here.

The URL loads for me and looks like it has a valid SSL certificate. There is
probably something wrong with how SDL is set up on your machine, or you might
possibly even have an untrustworthy root CA authority. I would recommend asking
for assistance in a ubuntu-specific user support forum. See
https://kubuntu.org/support/
