This is running on a 12 core machine with 128GiB of RAM with all data on an nVME SSD. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open a moderately sized C project 2. Edit C files 3. Experience frequent lag in the editor OBSERVED RESULT I observe very noticeable lag frequently in the editor, perhaps related to the code completion. I have Clazy Levels 0 and 1 enabled. This is using the C custom script formatter using Clang Format. EXPECTED RESULT I expect the editor to respond quickly like previous releases I am also wondering if this is related to the problem which causes KDevelop to hang when shutting down where a database appears to be getting corrupted. [Active Window Control] [Bug 454461] New: Desktop randomly freezes with unclear cause
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454461 Bug ID: 454461 Summary: Desktop randomly freezes with unclear cause Product: Active Window Control Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: General Assignee: zrenf...@gmail.com Reporter: bugs_kde_org.5.k...@spamgourmet.com CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When I use KDE neon the desktop seems to sometimes randomly freeze. STEPS TO REPRODUCE I have no idea how to reproduce this bug. First it seemed to be related to Opera, because it would often freeze when I opened a new window, but recently I got the same freeze when I opened JOSM. The only thing I did was to open a Windows: So for Opera: Right Click + New (private) Window. When I got the freeze with JOSM I opened it through the start menu OBSERVED RESULT The desktop freezes entirely. If music or a video is playing, the audio enters a loop of about 2 seconds. The desktop does not react to anything anymore. No clicks, no mouse, no keypresses, no Ctrl + Alt + F6 - nothing. When I had some time I let the PC sit and see if it does somehow get back on it's feet. Since it did not change after 20 minutes I gave up. The only 'fix' I could work out is to hard reset the PC. EXPECTED RESULT A nice BSOD crash would help since it would save me the work or pressing the restart button. Optionally I would of course prefer the system to not-crash and not-freeze since it's usually bad for the workflow :-) SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: KDE neon 5.24 KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.94.0 Qt Version: 5.15.4 Kernel Version: 5.13.0-44-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics Memory: 30.8 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD RENOIR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I have no idea if this is the right component since I have no idea what even causes the crash. I read about random freezes online with other distros as well which describe a similar pattern on Debian (Including Ubuntu) and Arch (including Manjaro) based systems. [plasmashell] [Bug 454458] New: Add options to show panel on all displays
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454458 Bug ID: 454458 Summary: Add options to show panel on all displays Product: plasmashell Version: 5.24.5 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: Panel Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: jackygu...@hotmail.com CC: niccolo.venera...@gmail.com Target Milestone: 1.0 With multi-monitor setups, you effectively need to recreate your panel each time you connect a new display. This can become quite tedious. I propose that the configuration menu for panels includes an option to set the currently selected panel to show on all displays. This is useful for panels used in a similar fashion to the taskbar on Windows. Obviously, there should be a way to override this for some monitors, but I am not sure how it should be implemented. [systemsettings] [Bug 454445] It would be nice if RGB range: Automatic would also display the currently chosen value
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454445 --- Comment #1 from Zamundaaa --- It would indeed be nice, sadly the driver doesn't currently expose that sort of information to us. It's a known problem and will hopefully be tackled soon™ with all the other color management stuff being worked on. However, I fully expect it to still take a long while to be done. Other than just waiting for that kernel fix, we could also 1. roll our own automatic detection. Something basic should be pretty quick to set up, although it may depend on us parsing more edid info (which I'd like to avoid diving into until we can use libedid to take care of that for us). Or 2. remove the automatic option completely and always default to full rgb range. Something like 98% of monitors and TVs out there have that and new ones should all be full rgb range, so it likely wouldn't be that bad. Both have the problem that they can cause unexpected regressions for some users with limited rgb TVs though... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 454455] New: KDE applications should have more descriptive names
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454455 Bug ID: 454455 Summary: KDE applications should have more descriptive names Product: plasmashell Version: master Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: tobi.goerg...@gmail.com CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY Hey there, I know this is not the right category, but I don't know where to put it, so I placed it here. If you know a better component, feel free to move it there. :) I'm regularly testing other desktop environments to see how they develop and one thing I noticed and really liked about GNOME is that applications seem to have very descriptive names in general. For example, the file explorer is called "Files", the terminal "Terminal" and the scan application "Document scanner". In plasma, this is not the case. The file explorer is called "Dolphin", the terminal is called "Konsole" and the document scanner is called "Skanlight". How should an inexperienced user know that Dolphin is a file manager, other than looking on the icon and trying? I think, I wouldn't. GNOME's file manager also has an internal name, Nautilus. But it's not exposed to the user directly. I think Plasma should do this as well. Use descriptive, direct names throughout the DE, to make it easier accessible for new users. What are your thoughts? Are there any explicit reasons why not to do that? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[systemsettings] [Bug 454415] System Settings Icon View appears to not honour single- vs double-click setting
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454415 --- Comment #3 from Wedge009 --- Okay, thanks for confirming that it was intentional. A bit unfortunate, though, for someone like me coming from a Windows background where single- vs double-click is consistent throughout. Something to get used to I suppose. A shame it wasn't that way from the start - I was used to double-click for the 'add widgets' functionality so having double-click add two widgets was annoying. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454453 Bug ID: 454453 Summary: Window decoration Blur effect does not work with new setBlurRegion() API on 5.24.90, but always worked on git master Product: kwin Version: 5.24.90 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: effects-various Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: k...@paulmcauley.com Target Milestone: --- I have implemented the new setBlurRegion() API for my C++ window decoration (https://github.com/paulmcauley/classik). This (mostly https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453229) works fine on the git master (and has for a month or so now), with a blur effect that matches the window shape. However, when I enable transparency and blur in my window decoration (this simply calls setBlurRegion() with the window shape) on the 5.24.90 beta I do not get any blur at all, just transparency. I have removed the "blur":true line from my .json file (as done by Michail Vourlakos for Aurorae) . Readding "blur": true to the .json enables blur again on 5.24.90, but with the kornerbug that the new setBlurRegion API was designed to fix (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395725). [kwallet-pam] [Bug 453932] I never setup kdewallet, I just started getting prompts for password
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453932 --- Comment #7 from Bob English --- Well, if it's not a bug, then it came without warning out of nowhere. My system has been running for years with just updates, and I never had Kwallet manager installed, nor ever seen any prompts from kded, ever, and it just started about a week or a little more ago. So it is an unexpected behavior that never happened! So therefore something changed, and it looks and acts like a bug, or worse: a security breach! That should not be all that hard to understand. I did use my user password, but had no way of knowing it would work, and that still says nothing about why this is happening now, when it never did before. I had it ask for the password again this morning, but not in a few days, so not every time I boot up, making it random too, and not giving any reason why, so no, just giving it my password after I just logged on with it is odd, as well as annoying! So it is at minimum an undesired behavior and unexplained too, where just giving it my user password every time it just randomly occurs is not a solution, but a workaround. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[frameworks-kded] [Bug 453280] kded5 leaks X-Window connections: Maximum number of clients reached
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453280 --- Comment #15 from Phil Hord --- If I rotate my screen 180 degrees, I also see the memory leak. This does not involve any desktop geometry change; no windows get moved or resized, and no widgets are redrawn. Perhaps this absolves some desktop widget of causing the issue. If I switch to a console tty (Ctrl+Alt+F3) and then back to the desktop, no leak occurs. It does seem to correlate to kscreen configChanged, as Ian Newton already pointed out. Following is from my syslog when I rotate the screen and then subsequently see the leaks: kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: XRandR::setConfig kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: Requested screen size is QSize(2560, 1440) kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: Needed CRTCs: 1 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: Actions to perform: #012 #011Primary Output: false kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: #011Change Screen Size: false kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: #011Disable outputs: false kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: #011Change outputs: true kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: #011#011 (66) kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: #011Enable outputs: false kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: RRSetCrtcConfig (change output) #012 #011Output: 66 ( "eDP-1" ) #012 #011CRTC: 63 #012 #011Pos: QPoint(0,0) #012 #011Mode: KScreen::Mode(Id: "71" , Size: QSize(2560, 1440) @ 59.9977 ) Preferred: "71" #012 #011Rotation: KScreen::Output::None kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: XRandRCrtc 63 m_timestamp update 65021240 => 65037306 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: #011Result: 0 timestamp: 65037306 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: XRandROutput 66 update #012 #011m_connected: 0 #012 #011m_crtc XRandRCrtc(0x558a2aeab650) #012 #011CRTC: 63 #012 #011MODE: 71 #012 #011Connection: 0 #012 #011Primary: true kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: XRandR::setConfig done! kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: RRNotify_CrtcChange kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Timestamp: 65021240 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011CRTC: 63 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Mode: 71 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Rotation: "Rotate_0" kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Geometry: 0 0 2560 1440 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: RRScreenChangeNotify kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Timestamp: 65021240 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Config_timestamp: 63769310 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Window: 58720261 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Root: 2004 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Rotation: "Rotate_0" kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Size ID: 0 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Size: 2560 1440 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011SizeMM: 677 381 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: RRNotify_CrtcChange kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Timestamp: 65021240 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011CRTC: 63 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Mode: 71 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Rotation: "Rotate_0" kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xcb.helper: #011Geometry: 0 0 2560 1440 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: XRandRCrtc 63 m_configTimestamp update 64782251 => 65021240 kscreen_backend_launcher[1407]: kscreen.xrandr: Emitting configChanged() -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[frameworks-kded] [Bug 453280] kded5 leaks X-Window connections: Maximum number of clients reached
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453280 --- Comment #14 from Phil Hord --- I have reinstalled KDE Neon on a new laptop. I have made minimal configuration changes to the desktop. I now see that the leak occurs whenever my desktop geometry changes. Without an external monitor attached, two kded5->X11 client connections are leaked every time I change the display resolution on the laptop screen. This was exacerbated before by some instability in my external monitor connection which apparently caused it to disconnect every 10 minutes while on the lockscreen. I don't have that same problem on this new laptop, so now my leaks occur only when I connect or disconnect from my monitors manually.
