[kleopatra] [Bug 455527] New: Horrible UX when opening a detached PGP signature
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455527 Bug ID: 455527 Summary: Horrible UX when opening a detached PGP signature Product: kleopatra Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: aheine...@gnupg.org Reporter: roland.il...@gmx.de CC: kdepim-b...@kde.org, m...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 149873 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=149873=edit screenshot SUMMARY Create a file named signature.pgp with the following content: -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- iF0EARECAB0WIQS7wyAjWilQwVHG9Vsf2nroCY7WDgUCYqpEaQAKCRAf2nroCY7W Dit1AJ9beBaBp86pk44/F2X9Qud6bYyi1ACfbyAro856N96BBJhAPwawWmxSq1A= =qdwz -END PGP SIGNATURE- Double-click on that file to open it with Kleopatra. OBSERVED RESULT See screenshot. > Ein Fehler ist aufgetreten: Kleopatra: Die Datei > „C:\Users\rillig\Desktop\pgpgKcKJrNO7O“ lässt sich nicht zum Lesen öffnen.: > Input/output error (218136625) * The title bar contains a '&' that was meant to be used as the accelerator character in a label, not in a dialog title. * The title contains the word Entschlüsseln even though a detached signature has nothing to do with decryption, it's only about validating a signature. * The icon is the info icon but should be the error icon. * The text 'Ein Fehler ist aufgetreten: ' would have been redundant if the correct icon had been used. * The word 'Kleopatra' is redundant as it already occurs in the title of the dialog. * The punctuation '.:' is wrong. * The 'Input/output error' is in English, it must be in German instead. * The error number 218136625 looks arbitrary, its hexadecimal representation 0x0d008031 at least has a few more 0 digits. * The error code is not clickable, there is no obvious way to get further information on that particular error code. * The user-friendly 'Datei nicht gefunden' (file not found) does not occur in the error message at all. * There is no context information. It would have been helpful to have the text 'Die Datei „%s.pgp“ ist eine losgelöste/abgetrennte Signatur, aber die zugehörige Datei „%s“ existiert nicht.' and a button 'Open folder' that opens the folder of the signature file. EXPECTED RESULT A simple error message does not contain 9 severe usability problems at once. This is not the only place in Kleopatra with horrible usability, it fits well into the rest of the program. To improve that situation, pick any person who has no interest in the details of cryptography but nevertheless wants to send and receive e-mails that nobody else can read. Let that person explain what they understand and what the program should do. Then modify Kleopatra to actually serve the user's needs. (This will take several years of work but should be done nevertheless.) Kleopatra Gpg4win-3.1.15 makes the impression that the only people who have actually used Kleopatra are crypto nerds, and that nobody else should do it because it is frighteningly complicated. But I don’t like it. Let me explain: My desktop is cluttered with windows on all workspaces. There are few times I get to see the wallpaper, set to a daily Unsplash motive. The old implementation of this effect greatly extended the time the usually beautiful wallpaper is visible to me, because this effect is essential to my workflow. I know, I could hide all windows or just minimize them. Sure. But with the old effect without blurring, it made the desktop more personal: When I have chosen a custom wallpaper, I was pleasant to also see it in Present Windows. It was mine. Now, what I get is this milk glass optics I just want to smash with a hammer to see my wallpaper again. Talking about alternatives: Current macOS 12 doesn’t even paint labels or program icons anymore in Mission Control. That’s a very questionable decision. But I like how Mac OS X 10.7 was painting the labels and placing the program icons, take a look for inspiration: https://youtu.be/lTU7i_DtrdQ?t=258 There is a subtle shadow below the icon, making it stand out regardless of the UI of the window. The label is white with a black font border. Doesn’t even need a dark label box like the old Presend Windows had. I recommend this as an alternative for blurring. EXPECTED RESULT No goddamn blurring, please! And just removing the blur but still bleaching the wallpaper like the option for the Overview effect currently does isn’t enough. Just show the pure wallpaper. KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.95.0 Qt Version: 5.14.4 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kmymoney] [Bug 455470] Some split transactions in an account in a foreign currency cannot be edited or deleted
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455470 --- Comment #2 from jlboz --- Thanks for the reply. My first reaction was that your suggestion could not possibly be right since I have already edited over twenty earlier transactions made up of the same set of splits, and anyway they are all split between categories with no transfers to accounts, closed or open. But when I looked again at one of the transactions that cannot be edited I found that the seventh line was different to the previous ones. Instead of a category it is a transfer to a closed account, even though the memo following it is identical, which made it easy to miss the change when editing many other transactions too. So you are right, there is no bug, and it would have been helpful if some message appeared to explain the transaction cannot be edited for as long as it involves a closed account. Sorry to have bothered you, but at least this is resolved and I can continue to update the transactions. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

This reimplementation of the Grid effect is faster than the old one. It is waaay too fast, shedding elegance. The old one looked more like the global settings set to the 7th mark now. But if I do this, then other effects will be slower too, making this workaround unpractical. There is much elegance lost with this lickety-split speed. At Plasma’s standard effects speed setting, this reimplementation is downright irritatingly fast. Faster than the original Compiz effect’s speed, faster than the Spaces app on older Mac OS X releases before Lion introduced Mission Control (Mission Control is slower too but no direct comparison). For some reason these appear as "HDMI1". - (in the screenshot you also see HDMI2, I have no idea what this is) >From the tray area in the panel I can open the audio switcher + volume control thingie (widget? applet? no idea). This has some usability problems: - It is hard to distinguish or visually separate speakers from microphones: - The icon that could distinguish microphone from speaker is way too small. - There is no visual separation between microphones section and speakers section. - It is also difficult to distinguish any devices from each other: - Device labels are often confusing or misleading or contain details that don't help to distinguish them. E.g. all of them are "Tiger-Lake" something, this tells me nothing and it does not help to distinguish them. And for some reason my laptop speaker is called "HDMI" something. - The possible states are unclear: - Switcher controls look like radio buttons (round), which suggests only one can be active at a time, but... - Because mics and speakers are visually not separate, one should think this is one group of radios - but it is not, obviously one can select a speaker and a microphone simultaneously. - To make it worse, I can also sometimes select more than one speaker. But this is not consistent, e.g. activating speaker A might deactivate speaker B, but not vice versa. - Overall layout and style: - Elements are too big, while the box itself has a constrained width, so seeing all of them requires scrolling. - Space is wasted without increasing UX. There are also real bugs, e.g. sometimes I see speaker A active in the controls, but sound is coming from speaker B. I need to switch back and forth to fix it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 455507] New: Overview effect search box almost always causes hard system lockup

It will either do it the first time I attempt to type anything, or after two or three times. It will always happen but it seems to happen at latest on the third time entering any text. The display I attempt to search on seems to have no effect. Audio from opened applications will continue to play but the system freezes and the audio cannot be paused, and the desktop cannot be interacted with in any way. Keyboard shortcuts don't work either. It is a full lockup save for any audio continuing to play. I tested with a few applications open and with no applications opened, and the issue was present in every case. I could not narrow down the issue to anything more specific than simply searching with the Overview effect. I am not sure what kinds of logs I should try to find/create/attach but please let me know what I can provide to help Interestingly, this does not happen with KRunner. Only with the Overview effect. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Activate the Overview effect 2. Attempt to search in the search box 3. Repeat two or three times if necessary to get the system to lock up OBSERVED RESULT Overview effect search bar causes system to lock up, the number of search attempts to cause this varies but the maximum I have observed is three times.
