[kleopatra] [Bug 455527] New: Horrible UX when opening a detached PGP signature

2022-06-17 Thread Roland Illig
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455527

Bug ID: 455527
Summary: Horrible UX when opening a detached PGP signature
   Product: kleopatra
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: aheine...@gnupg.org
  Reporter: roland.il...@gmx.de
CC: kdepim-b...@kde.org, m...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 149873
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=149873=edit
screenshot

SUMMARY
Create a file named signature.pgp with the following content:
-BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-

iF0EARECAB0WIQS7wyAjWilQwVHG9Vsf2nroCY7WDgUCYqpEaQAKCRAf2nroCY7W
Dit1AJ9beBaBp86pk44/F2X9Qud6bYyi1ACfbyAro856N96BBJhAPwawWmxSq1A=
=qdwz
-END PGP SIGNATURE-
Double-click on that file to open it with Kleopatra.

OBSERVED RESULT
See screenshot.
> Ein Fehler ist aufgetreten: Kleopatra: Die Datei
> „C:\Users\rillig\Desktop\pgpgKcKJrNO7O“ lässt sich nicht zum Lesen öffnen.:
> Input/output error (218136625)

* The title bar contains a '&' that was meant to be used as the accelerator
character in a label, not in a dialog title.
* The title contains the word Entschlüsseln even though a detached signature
has nothing to do with decryption, it's only about validating a signature.
* The icon is the info icon but should be the error icon.
* The text 'Ein Fehler ist aufgetreten: ' would have been redundant if the
correct icon had been used.
* The word 'Kleopatra' is redundant as it already occurs in the title of the
dialog.
* The punctuation '.:' is wrong.
* The 'Input/output error' is in English, it must be in German instead.
* The error number 218136625 looks arbitrary, its hexadecimal representation
0x0d008031 at least has a few more 0 digits.
* The error code is not clickable, there is no obvious way to get further
information on that particular error code.
* The user-friendly 'Datei nicht gefunden' (file not found) does not occur in
the error message at all.
* There is no context information. It would have been helpful to have the text
'Die Datei „%s.pgp“ ist eine losgelöste/abgetrennte Signatur, aber die
zugehörige Datei „%s“ existiert nicht.' and a button 'Open folder' that opens
the folder of the signature file.

EXPECTED RESULT
A simple error message does not contain 9 severe usability problems at once.
This is not the only place in Kleopatra with horrible usability, it fits well
into the rest of the program.

To improve that situation, pick any person who has no interest in the details
of cryptography but nevertheless wants to send and receive e-mails that nobody
else can read. Let that person explain what they understand and what the
program should do. Then modify Kleopatra to actually serve the user's needs.
(This will take several years of work but should be done nevertheless.)
Kleopatra Gpg4win-3.1.15 makes the impression that the only people who have
actually used Kleopatra are crypto nerds, and that nobody else should do it
because it is frighteningly complicated.

I can confirm that the tracks appear in Dolphin in the audiocd:/ path (although
it's adding a ?device=/dev/sr0 too). I also went back to Amarok after they
loaded, and nope, they're still not showing up there.

I hope Nathan will plead not to close this and give some examples when the
current "smart" behavior is an issue.
I have also stumbled upon this but wasn't annoyed enough to fix it.

> I am forced to use a different editor altogether for now.

That alone should be enough to think more about the current behavior, if it is
really no issue. He will not file a report just to bother some KDE guys.

For me is the question wehre the benefit of the current "smart mangle" is.
What's wrong to save each setting independent?

I guess Nathan could work around it by just using a different (hard)tab
setting. Then looks the file not as desired but can edited as needed.

KIO 5.95 should have this fix. So it seems something else is missing. What

Can you check solid-hardware5 list for your drive(s) and provide the output of
solid-hardware5 details for each of them, and perhaps your list of mounts.

2022-06-17 Thread Maximilian Böhm
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455523

Bug ID: 455523
Summary: New Present Windows in 5.25: Option to turn off
blurring of wallpaper or better get rid of it
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.25.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-present-windows
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: m...@elbmurf.de
  Target Milestone: ---

I know that you have chosen this behavior to make the window labels better
visible. But I don’t like it. Let me explain: My desktop is cluttered with
windows on all workspaces. There are few times I get to see the wallpaper, set
to a daily Unsplash motive. The old implementation of this effect greatly
extended the time the usually beautiful wallpaper is visible to me, because
this effect is essential to my workflow. I know, I could hide all windows or
just minimize them. Sure. But with the old effect without blurring, it made the
desktop more personal: When I have chosen a custom wallpaper, I was pleasant to
also see it in Present Windows. It was mine. Now, what I get is this milk glass
optics I just want to smash with a hammer to see my wallpaper again.

Talking about alternatives:
Current macOS 12 doesn’t even paint labels or program icons anymore in Mission
Control. That’s a very questionable decision. But I like how Mac OS X 10.7 was
painting the labels and placing the program icons, take a look for inspiration:
https://youtu.be/lTU7i_DtrdQ?t=258
There is a subtle shadow below the icon, making it stand out regardless of the
UI of the window. The label is white with a black font border. Doesn’t even
need a dark label box like the old Presend Windows had.
I recommend this as an alternative for blurring.

EXPECTED RESULT
No goddamn blurring, please! And just removing the blur but still bleaching the
wallpaper like the option for the Overview effect currently does isn’t enough.
Just show the pure wallpaper.

The old Present Windows effect animated the switching to other workspaces if
you select a window which is not on your current workspace. The new one just
zooms up the window and brutally switches the desktop without any effect.

EXPECTED RESULT
It should animate the workspace switch with your chosen switching animation.
This to say: If the Cube may finally come back – which I pray for every night

2022-06-17 Thread jlboz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455470

Thanks for the reply. My first reaction was that your suggestion could not
possibly be right since I have already edited over twenty earlier transactions
made up of the same set of splits, and anyway they are all split between
categories with no transfers to accounts, closed or open. But when I looked
again at one of the transactions that cannot be edited I found that the seventh
line was different to the previous ones. Instead of a category it is a transfer
to a closed account, even though the memo following it is identical, which made
it easy to miss the change when editing many other transactions too. So you are
right, there is no bug, and it would have been helpful if some message appeared
to explain the transaction cannot be edited for as long as it involves a closed
account. Sorry to have bothered you, but at least this is resolved and I can
continue to update the transactions.

I have my global animations speed setting set to the 8th mark, one less than
default, to get better appealing animations. This reimplementation of the Grid
effect is faster than the old one. It is waaay too fast, shedding elegance.

The old one looked more like the global settings set to the 7th mark now. But
if I do this, then other effects will be slower too, making this workaround
unpractical.
There is much elegance lost with this lickety-split speed.

At Plasma’s standard effects speed setting, this reimplementation is downright
irritatingly fast. Faster than the original Compiz effect’s speed, faster than
the Spaces app on older Mac OS X releases before Lion introduced Mission
Control (Mission Control is slower too but no direct comparison). This is no
good experience. You should not only restore the old relative to the global
effects speed setting but sincerely consider lowering its default speed even
further.

EXPECTED RESULT
It should animate at lower speed like the old implementation, relative to the
global effects speed setting.

SUMMARY

Global menu applet is useless with the new panel keyboard focus.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
0. Add Global Menu applet onto a panel, restart some apps that have menus
2. Focus on a panel with Meta+Alt+P shortcut.

OBSERVED RESULT
As focus shift away from a window to a panel, global menu becomes empty.

EXPECTED RESULT
Global menu should still display the menu of an application that is in front,
in other words, panel should not take away the focus from a window completely
like it currently does.

Just at writing this, I tried an even faster global setting and this effect is
following with even faster animation. So my initial thought was wrong.
But it is SO MUCH FASTER than the old implementation, which had a kind of

[plasma-pa] [Bug 455518] New: Usability issues in audio volume control / device switcher

Bug ID: 455518

  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 149870
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=149870=edit
Screenshot of volume control element

I am using KDE Plasma on a laptop with multiple audio devices attached:
- Analog headphones with built-in microphone, connected through a headphone
jack.
- Jabra speak, connected through USB
- Internal laptop speakers + microphone. For some reason these appear as
"HDMI1".
- (in the screenshot you also see HDMI2, I have no idea what this is)

>From the tray area in the panel I can open the audio switcher + volume control
thingie (widget? applet? no idea).

This has some usability problems:
- It is hard to distinguish or visually separate speakers from microphones:
- The icon that could distinguish microphone from speaker is way too small.
- There is no visual separation between microphones section and speakers
section.
- It is also difficult to distinguish any devices from each other:
- Device labels are often confusing or misleading or contain details that
don't help to distinguish them. E.g. all of them are "Tiger-Lake" something,
this tells me nothing and it does not help to distinguish them. And for some
reason my laptop speaker is called "HDMI" something.
- The possible states are unclear:
- Switcher controls look like radio buttons (round), which suggests only
one can be active at a time, but...
- Because mics and speakers are visually not separate, one should think
this is one group of radios - but it is not, obviously one can select a speaker
and a microphone simultaneously.
- To make it worse, I can also sometimes select more than one speaker. But
this is not consistent, e.g. activating speaker A might deactivate speaker B,
but not vice versa.
- Overall layout and style:
- Elements are too big, while the box itself has a constrained width, so
seeing all of them requires scrolling.
- Space is wasted without increasing UX.

There are also real bugs, e.g. sometimes I see speaker A active in the
controls, but sound is coming from speaker B. I need to switch back and forth
to fix it.

wallpapers/potd: fix multimonitor support

After dataengine was ported away, it requires to use a self-maintained
engine to properly support multi-screen wallpapers.

3 new classes are added:

- PotdEngine: a class to manage clients, create and delete clients on
demand.
- Client: a class to process wallpaper data
- Backend: a class used in QML side, to relay information from the client

The major part of PotdProviderModel are moved to the 3 classes, so the
model class is now a pure model.

I am seeing the same issue, only for me it happens every log off or reboot. I
have only seen this issue since upgrading to 5.25. This only seems to impact
widgets and wallpaper for me. All other settings seem to be working correctly.
This is on Arch. It seems to be reapplying the global theme at logon
(Amethyst). Hope this helps.

[kwin] [Bug 455517] New: New Grid in 5.25: Doesn’t respect global effects speed setting

2022-06-17 Thread Maximilian Böhm
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455517

Bug ID: 455517
Summary: New Grid in 5.25: Doesn’t respect global effects speed
setting
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.25.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-desktop-grid
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: m...@elbmurf.de
  Target Milestone: ---

I have my global animations speed setting set to the 8th mark, one less than
default, to get better appealing animations. This reimplementation of the Grid
effect is ignoring this setting. It is waaay too fast, shedding elegance.

If I were you, I would set the default speed of this effect lower regardless of
this current global settings disrespect. It’s downright irritatingly fast.

EXPECTED RESULT
It should respect the global effects speed setting!

In the old implementation, I could drag single windows to other workspaces. If
you try this in the new one, it wants to swap the whole workspace with another.
That’s not practical. I need to be able to quickly move windows in this mode

Fair enough, so I guess this counts as intentional as part of adding support
for the one to one animation (feel free to mark it so if that's the case).

Fortunately after about a day it doesn't feel anywhere near as annoying as it
did right after the upgrade, and I haven't seen anyone else mention it so it's
probably just me then lol.

I had an issue with my database and I had to reconstruct it. Right now my

GB of pictures (will take several hours) the UI is basically frozen and cannot
be used.

SUMMARY
Since Plasma update to 5.25, kdeinit isn't started with Plasma session anymore.
it makes org.kde.klauncher5 dbus service unavailable until kdeinit is started

Sure it works. But I don't understand why it would work differently depending
on if I cross monitor borders with my mouse or not. As I described above, I
want to move monitor and workspace at the same time. Currently this is two
operations, when I think it was intended for it to be 1.

Does it crash with any video clip ? Can you test if the clip can be played with
MLT's command line utility (melt):
melt myvideo.mp4

Not sure it is related to original report though.

This is excellent, thank you! I probably should've checked but I thought it was
a regression, apologies!

Should've known considering how customisable Plasma is. Thanks again!

SUMMARY
***
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug

***
Unable to attach a report via the KDE crash handler, it hangs on current
OpenSuse Tumbleweed updated today (with Kernel 5.18.2-1-default, melt and most
of KDE were updated among 5000+ other packages). New with this version and its
co-requisite MELT-7 and FFMPEG4, did not happen yesterday. KDE Apps are version
5.25.0, Frameworks is Tumblweed 5.94.0.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a project.
2. Add a valid and playable MP4 or MKV clip, containing one track of Stereo
audio using codec AAC (LAV), OPUS, or AC3.
OBSERVED RESULT
Instant crash results, with failing KDE crash handler.

EXPECTED RESULT
Successful Import to the Project.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: OpenSuse Tumbleweed, rev 06/06/14/2022 mlweed
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.90.4
Qt Version: 5.15.2+kde294-5.4

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Converted the Camera's "native" AC3 audio to Opus. AAC. and a re-encoded AC3
within both an MKV and MP4 container (with -moveflags present in the MP4
container conversion). No alternative audio version was succesfully imported. I
did not (yet) try importing the video track alone. Failing file size was about
20GB.

BYPASS:
A failing large file can be exported to a single long "ts" output file using an
external tool such as avidemux; the 'ts' version can then be imported to
kdenlive without issues.

[kwin] [Bug 455507] New: Overview effect search box almost always causes hard system lockup

2022-06-17 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455507

Bug ID: 455507
Summary: Overview effect search box almost always causes hard
system lockup
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.25.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-overview
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: indecisiveautoma...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Using the search bar in the Overview effect will almost always cause a full
system lockup, requiring me to press the restart button on my PC. It will
either do it the first time I attempt to type anything, or after two or three
times. It will always happen but it seems to happen at latest on the third time
entering any text. The display I attempt to search on seems to have no effect.
Audio from opened applications will continue to play but the system freezes and
the audio cannot be paused, and the desktop cannot be interacted with in any
way. Keyboard shortcuts don't work either. It is a full lockup save for any
audio continuing to play.

I tested with a few applications open and with no applications opened, and the
issue was present in every case. I could not narrow down the issue to anything
more specific than simply searching with the Overview effect. I am not sure
what kinds of logs I should try to find/create/attach but please let me know
what I can provide to help 

Interestingly, this does not happen with KRunner. Only with the Overview
effect.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Activate the Overview effect
2. Attempt to search in the search box
3. Repeat two or three times if necessary to get the system to lock up

OBSERVED RESULT
Overview effect search bar causes system to lock up, the number of search
attempts to cause this varies but the maximum I have observed is three times.

EXPECTED RESULT
Overview effect search bar should not cause a system lockup.

Single GPU, NVIDIA 2070S

The right click bug I had was #353975 btw, which does not seem to happen
anymore (probably due to the freeze, but at least apparently the background
remains. Can't right click unfortunately)

So it blocks sleep (system sleep or "suspend") and screen locking but not
display sleeping?

In the past (before plasma 5.24, it seems) I think it wouldn't trigger monitor
sleep at all when there's any inhibitor that blocks somethings even with
minimized window or locked screen.

Actually, I just remember that we made this configurable. You can change it in
System Settings > Workspace Behavior > Screen edges > Check the checkbox saying
"Remain active when windows are fullscreen".
