[kwin] [Bug 456936] New: Dragged windows get drawn below others on desktopgrid / overview

2022-07-19 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456936

Bug ID: 456936
Summary: Dragged windows get drawn below others on desktopgrid
/ overview
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.25.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-various
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: bastimeyer...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 150761

dragging windows on the desktopgrid and overview effect

SUMMARY
When dragging/moving a window on the desktopgrid or overview effect, it gets
drawn below other windows.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open multiple windows
2. Open desktopgrid or overview effect
3. Drag one of the windows around

OBSERVED RESULT
The window gets drawn below others, covering/hiding it, which is bad.
Dragging a window from a different virtual desktop on the desktopgrid however
correctly draws it above others, in full size.

EXPECTED RESULT
Dragged windows should always be drawn above others

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Arch, latest, with kwin built from the Plasma/5.25 branch, commit

How is it possible that this bug hasn't gotten more attention?
The QML re-implementation has been merged two months ago, and 5.25 has been
released more than one month ago, which means that this broken mess has been
unfixed and released as stable for a very long time now.
The attached video is recorded with kwin built from the Plasma/5.25 branch and

[plasmashell] [Bug 456931] New: full cascading?

Status: REPORTED

full cascading

SUMMARY
KDE imitated Windows 95 partial but not full cascading menu but should have
full option (to immediately see everything and select faster).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use or upgrade to Kicker.
2. Fill up main menu or a submenu to beyond screen.
3. Cascade (slow).

OBSERVED RESULT
KDE imitated Windows 95 partial but not full cascading menu but should have
full option (to immediately see everything and select faster). If menu extends
past screen, with partial cascading you can't immediately see everything then
must use scroll-bars or mouse wheel (takes 20 scrolls on some our menus four
times long as average (1920x1080) screen and even 10 on my 4K) but full
cascading menu extends more columns immediately sees, for which you can either
scrollover or move mouse to (both much faster).

EXPECTED RESULT
Full cascading option.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon 5, Slackware 13 to 15.1-current.
KDE Plasma Version: 4, 5
KDE Frameworks Version: 4, 5
Qt Version: 4, 5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
KDE is almost three decades behind the times in not having (fastest) full
cascading!

Cannot reproduce on Windows (commit e747146, with a 1080p SD screen) but I can
on macOS (commit a40c361, with a Retina screen). I think I know where this may
have broken: https://invent.kde.org/graphics/krita/-/merge_requests/1317, where
I added the devicePixelRatioF() calls to account for HiDPI scaling.

Tiar, since I think your screen is HiDPI, perhaps you can try fixing it by

[kwin] [Bug 456847] Changing Autohide setting with shortcut causes issues with maximised window sizes

2022-07-19 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456847

I mentioned how the window size does readjust correctly if the mouse is already
causing the panel to be shown when the setting is toggled - it also seems to
happen if a widget (e.g. Application Launcher) is activated during or after the
settings toggle.

To clarify:
1. If a widget is activated when the setting is toggled, then maximised windows
resize correctly and immediately
2. If a widget is activated while the window is in the incorrect state (after
toggling setting, before the window has readjusted to the new size) this seems
to trigger recalculation and the window resizes itself into the correct state.

Since the correct behaviour is observed either when the panel is shown due to
mouse proximity and also when it is shown due to an activated widget, this
seems to suggest behaviour is correct whenever the panel is shown.

Perhaps it is possible that the regression is due to a change to the way
dimensions are calculated for the panel? If the windows do recalculate upon the
setting being changed, but the panel reports height=0 due to not yet having
reappeared this could cause windows to occupy the whole screen including space
which is under the panel when it appears, which is the issue. That would be
consistent with the bug not occuring if the panel is already shown, since then
when the recalculation occurs, the panel's height is already known and the
correct value is used.

> Of course, we also need to take session management into account.

Not being one that uses session management (per se, I use startup scripts and
window rules to do the configuring I need) much, I hadn't thought of that.
Good call, altho I'd suggest an initial implementation wouldn't need it due to
the complexity.

> protocol does provide the shaded flag for this task.

What about other gtk3-based apps? Firefox only or anything gtk-based?

As for your tool, I was thinking wmctrl as well, and sure enough it's a dep.
But I'm a shellscript guy so that's what all my wmctrl/xprop/etc stuff is, not
the python you used. Well, that and kwin window rules.

There was also the khotkeys GUI app that allowed dynamic/triggered action
invocation, back in the day, but last I tried it, even on X, while the
configuration GUI still ran and actions could still be configured, I couldn't
get them to actually work as configured. I strongly suspect that it had lost a
proper maintainer even by the time of the kde4->kde5 port, and while it was
"ported" by others in terms of made to build and the GUI run, I'm not sure it
ever actually worked properly on kde5, and certainly didn't seem to even on
xorg last I tried it.

But I can't /imagine/ the kde wayland port being considered complete without
/some/ sort of scriptable/invokable custom window management comparable to the
static functionality kwin window rules provides on X and wayland, and wmctrl
and friends provide dynamically on X, so I guess eventually they'll either
fix/port khotkeys, or reimpliment similar functionality from scratch. But I
actually don't expect it until after the (currently underway) qt6 port is done.
(And qt6 being the first qt to have wayland support from the get-go, I expect
its wayland support to be better and more efficient, such that implementing
such stuff in it may well be 2/3 the work it'd be on qt5.)

Anyway, doing wayland-shading session support without full protocol support is
still possible, but I expect it'd be several times the complexity of the
"simple" solution I was imagining, so wouldn't be likely for initial support at
least. But as long as apps can be forced to run in X mode via xwayland,
existing solutions like your scripting solution should remain viable. And
pre-setting such vars before app startup or auto-adding commandline options as
appropriate, is what wrapper scripts are for! =:^)

[krita] [Bug 456929] New: Color profile selector seems to have broken display (both the "horseshoe" and the curve chart)

2022-07-19 Thread Tiar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456929

Bug ID: 456929
Summary: Color profile selector seems to have broken display
(both the "horseshoe" and the curve chart)
   Product: krita
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Mint (Ubuntu based)
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Color models
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: tamtamy.tym...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
It seems like they are drawn in a wrong way. My display is 4k, if it matters.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to Image -> Convert Image Color Space
2. Press "Color profile selector" (probably other places with the color
selector have the same issue)
3. Look at curve charts and the horseshoes of different profiles, especially
RGB/A since they are the most "normal" ones and should look just as you expect.

OBSERVED RESULT
In the horseshoe, the triangle is partially out of the window. The horseshoe
seems to be crossing one of the axis, too. The triangle is mostly out of the
horseshoe.
In the curve chart, the curve is only partially visible.

EXPECTED RESULT
The triangle should be inside the horseshoe.
The curve should be wholly visible in the square of the chart.

[konsole] [Bug 453545] Konsole resets font size after disconnecting from SSH session

2022-07-19 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453545

Konsole resets the profiles after disconnecting from ssh, this is something
that was requested a while ago, and that unfortunately it introduced
regressions.

There’s a new option on the (unreleased) Konsole to not touch the profiles
when connecting to / disconnecting from ssh.

We can also try to make things better if the current profile settings
differs from the selected profile (for instance, text size) and reapply the
differences on the profile after a connection / disconnection - this is
something I didn’t anticipate.

I'm experiencing the exact problem described here with KDE Konsole, font sizing
(with `+`), and with font size resetting after SSH disconnect (regardless
of how the session closes).

For my case I have 2 profiles:
- Default [Read-only]
- Mine (default)

The Mine profile is where most of my configuration is set. Some settings that
I've changed that might be related:
- Initial terminal size: 110 columns, 28 rows
- Appearance: Color scheme & font: "Breeze"
- Font: "Source Code Pro 10pt"
- Smooth fonts: Checked
- Draw intense colors in bold font: Checked
- Use line characters contained in font: Unchecked
- Appearance: Miscellaneous:
- Window: Show hint for terminal size after resizing: Unchecked
- Window: Display vertical line at column: 80: Unchecked
- General: Process and window: Remember window size: Unchecked (though
regardless of Checked vs. Unchecked the problem persists/behaves the same way
as reported above.)

As a note, I did not experience this issue on Kubuntu 20.04 or Plasma <5.20-ish

I think this issue deserves reopening, since what KDE does is different from
other projects (such as GNOME). On GNOME, I can click a Telegram Desktop
notification that disappeared into the notification drawer on the panel. On
KDE, that does not work.

On a related note, even for Discover, which keeps a button in the history,
clicking the body of the notification does not work, while this does work for
the active notification.

On the contrary, Nate, this is something that should be inherited by
$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS in which case /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kf5-settings
is added to the path by the distribution. Therefore, by adding a file with a
config to the aforementioned directory is inherently doing the same as adding
it to /etc/xdg since it is in the same $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS path, at least
according to the XDG spec.

This is, of course, unless KDE is deviating from the Open Desktop Guidelines
and not using the $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS system variable when searching for config
files.

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1)
> Are you saying it doesn't happen when there's no global menu widget?

Correct. Normally there is an extra item in the hamburger menu "Show Menubar
With all Items" which expands the menu width. This item is removed when the
global menu widget is active.

> Could be a recurrence of Bug 450333.

Yes it seems like it. I can't reproduce that bug in particular, but can confirm
443805 still exists. Can't check 450333 because I don't have kmail.

I noticed I can always trigger the bug by dragging the image from a Chromium
based browser and moving the mouse fast over the panel, at the very edge of the
screen. I also noticed in very rare cases it throws me back at the login screen
instead of just making the screen go black.

Here's a video of the issue: https://youtu.be/eUAXeAv6qr4

The command shows 4 crashes yesterday:

Mon 2022-07-18 16:20:13 -032609 1000 1000 11 present
/usr/bin/plasmashell
Mon 2022-07-18 18:10:32 -03 16502 1000 1000 11 present
/usr/bin/plasmashell
Mon 2022-07-18 18:17:37 -03 21060 1000 1000 11 present
/usr/bin/plasmashell
Mon 2022-07-18 18:22:49 -03 22727 1000 1000 11 present
/usr/bin/plasmashell

Those are from yesterday. I think they're not related to this. I remember
Plasma crashing when I was trying to diagnose the issue and I tried to run
plasmashell with another command to pipe the terminal output to a file. I did
that a few times, and that's when I think Plasma crashed (that's why I think
it's unrelated). When the screen goes black no core dump is ever created. I'll
add the crashes from yesterday in the next post, but I don't think they're
related to this.

What I mean is when entering a feed. There's a summary showing how many unread

I still have this open bug report which is similar but panels move to different
screens (even disabled screens sometimes):
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453554

But the initial title doesn't exactly reflect the behavior under 5.25 because I
can now recover the panels from the panel editor. Should I set a new title and
set the new version number?

[systemsettings] [Bug 456321] With certain Color Scheme settings, inactive window titlebar not colored with the setting turned on

2022-07-19 Thread Nate Graham
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456321

This appears to be a config migration/sync issue. I can make your color scheme
work for me by applying the following changes:

nate@Liberator:~/Desktop$ diff OLD.colors NEW.colors
134,138c134,136
< TintFactor=0.15
< accentActiveTitlebar=true
< accentInactiveTitlebar=true
---
> TitlebarIsAccentColored=true

So this is already fixed in git master, but 5.25.x is broken, because we have a
mismatch between the config data name and what the UI shows.

That's unfortunate.

It's also unfortunate that this bug report became a kind of grab-bag of related

best if people who are still affected could file new bug reports, and I will
try my best to triage them accordingly. Thanks!

This is odd but that command says "No coredumps found" no matter how many times
I make the session crash. Coredumps are enabled on my system as there are
coredumps for Plasmashell (unrelated to this bug), so I don't know why there's
none for kwin_wayland.

I'm afraid there's not much info I can give unless there's another way of
diagnosing the problem. :(

It sounds like KWin crashed and Plasma failed to re-launch automatically due to
Bug 448475. If that's the case, can you get a kwin_wayland backtrace for the
crash? You can see the latest ones with `coredumpctl list kwin_wayland`.

won't I have to test it for basically every commit to kwin if I go with the git
bisect

If you're handy with source code and compiling things, you could also to a `git
bisect` to find out which exact commit regressed it for you.

Thanks David. What you suggest is not possible since Slackware does not use
systemd.
Perhaps there is an equivalent tool? If that's te case, point it out to me and
I'll try to use it.

I conveniently have the kwin source code on my machine, (I patched it for zoom
screensharing, but don't worry the tablet mode was broken even before I patched
it), so if you could point me to the general area to look in the code, I could
see where the error is

OK, then I think a KWin or Kirigami person just needs to investigate it.

I can confirm this in 5.0.6 and 5.1.0-beta2, but, interestingly, not with git
master. That branch must have a fix somewhere that didn't get backported.

[plasmashell] [Bug 456803] Plasma crashes after screen inactivity

Created attachment 150748
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=150748=edit
journalctl log

In this workflow, I locked the computer manually and turned off both screens
myself. Then waited for some seconds, and turned them back on at the same time.
Plasma was gone, wallpaper was gone, and it seems it found itself in timeout,
killed itself and restarted - in a total of almost 1 minute downtime.
