I can confirm this. It ONLY happens in the file picker with folders of large
amounts of images, as it doesn't seem to be a problem at all in Dolphin.
Sometimes you can "nudge" it to generate more thumbnails by changing icon
sizes, but it doesn't work most of the time, and often makes you lose your
place. This is very annoying. Mousing over the thumbnail doesn't have any
effect in my case.

Been going through old hard drives & noticed the issue a week ago. just did a
quick test to see why you have no issue & copied a folder to my home directory
(whoever owned this drive has issues)the problem only seems to be occurring
when accessing an external drive. Also somehow copying the folder somehow fixed

[kate] [Bug 456733] Multiple Cursor Behavior: Alt+DoubleClick, Alt+Click+Drag and SelectText + Alt+Click

I just found this issue as I accidentally lost my cursors after moving the
mouse a bit while Alt+Clicking.

As for what Kate should actually do when Alt+Dragging, there are multiple
reasonable options: one is to create a new cursor and just one selection. When
the new selection created by the mouse would include an existing cursor, there
is another option: create equivalent selections around all existing cursors,
move all cursors (except when the mouse is released right at an existing
cursor), and don't create a new cursor.

Likewise, Alt+DoubleClick could either select just one word or, if the word
under the mouse includes an existing cursor, another option is to select the
word under each existing cursor.

Okay the oldest version that would work without downgrading other packages was
5.20.0 (22.04.0) which is still KDE Frameworks 5.97.0 based. The issue still
persisted in that version so now I'm trying the flatpak version which is
Version 5.21.0 (22.08.0) and also uses KDE Frameworks Version 5.97.0 & Qt
Version 5.15.5 (built against 5.15.5). After using the flatpak version for
about 2h40m the bug hasn't happened yet so this could be a temporary workaround
for those affected till this is fixed

2022-08-21 Thread Mattia
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458155

Bug ID: 458155
Summary: Hovered unfocused items in lists aren't colored
correctly
   Product: Breeze
   Version: 5.25.4
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: gtk theme
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: alterme...@gmail.com
CC: agrine...@gmail.com, uhh...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 151491
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=151491=edit
Current behavior followed by expected behavior followed by Qt equivalent (KDE
system settings)

SUMMARY
When you hover over an item of a GTK list (for example a GtkListBox or a
GtkStackSidebar) the background color of such item becomes #3daee9 (in the
default breeze dark), which is the same color as the selected items in the
list. These colors should actually be different.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open an application that contains a list (e.g. the sidebar on the GTK file
picker), or quickly create a layout in Glade
2. Select an item in the list
3. Hover over a different item

OBSERVED RESULT
The two items have identical background colors (#3daee9 in the default breeze
dark).

EXPECTED RESULT
The selected item has the correct color, however the hovered one should be
different (e.g. #1f485e on the default breeze dark).

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
GTK Version: 3; might also happen on 2 and 4 but I can't test them
OS: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.97.0
Qt Version: 5.15.5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I managed to fix it for Breeze Dark by modifying gtk.css in the "Lists"
section:

sed -i
'2336s/theme_selected_bg_color_breeze/theme_unfocused_selected_bg_color_breeze/'
gtk.css

Thanks for your help.

Here;s the wording:

You are about to finish the reconciliation of this account with a
difference between your bank statement and the transactions marked as
cleared.
Are you sure you want to finish the reconciliation?

The problem seems to be unique to the only account that I regularly
reconcile (checking account). I did a sample reconciliation on another
account and did not encounter the problem. It could be the checking
account has an entry that doesn't show up in the leger, because of a
data error or something like that.

Please provide the exact wording of that message. I believe I have seen it
myself, and have just ignored it. If we are going to track down what actually
triggers it, we need the exact wording of the message, to find where in the
code it is triggered and what data situation would cause it. It would be great
to have a sample data file that exhibits the error, but I suspect that would
take an unreasonable effort to create, and anonymizing a real data file changes
the values of transactions, so I doubt that would work.

[digikam] [Bug 458143] Opening a picture using OpenGL viewer generates an OpenGL error then digikam crashes

2022-08-21 Thread Jean-Fred
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458143

Hi Maik,

Yes, latest Intel driver was installed for MS update, and no, Intel does not
provide directly any W10 driver pack for this (pretty old) adapter.
As a matter of fact, the driver pack provided by MS update seems to be coming
directly from Intel (driver dialog reports Package provider = Intel Corp.) - MS
seems to only take care of package signature.
To verify nothing is obviously wrong with my system, I ran OpenGL Extensions
Viewer on my system to see what level of OpenGL is fully supported by my
system. It report OpenGL 2.1 is 100% supported which should be fine for Qt5 I
think.
The interesting thing is that when digiKam is running normally (i.e. before
calling OpenGL viewer), Process Explorer reports it is dynamically linking
opengl32.dll, which probably means OpenGL Viewer and/or other part of digiKam
is using openGL through "desktop" OpenGL driver I guess.
Not sure however why digiKam/Qt requires libEGL.dll/opengl32ws.dll if a valid
openGL driver is already present on the system as from what I understand those
dlls are related to software and/or directx emulation of openGL calls...

Regards,

Jean-Fred

I think we just had some incompatibility there.

I would propose you either just configure your toolbars once from scratch
(after removing the file).

I see no way to fix that for the old version.

Yes, there is a file there named kwriteui.rc, which is about 100 lines of XML.
When I move this file away, two things happen:

1. The missing "Configure kwrite …" comes back.
2. My toolbar customizations are (partly?!) reset.

Both effects revert when I put the file back in place.

I'm attaching the kwriteui.rc in question (note that I've never manually edited
it, only fiddled with the toolbar editor in kwrite itself), as well as
screenshots of both situations.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 457335] File search is case sensitive

2022-08-21 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457335

(In reply to Artur Rudenko from comment #2)
> This could be that newly created files remain unindexed
> some time after the creation ...
Yes, could be that baloo "got stuck". It relies on "iNotify" alerts to see when
files are created, deleted or changed - and there are times when baloo misses
something.

A "balooctl check" brings things back up to date for new or changed files.
Purging the index and reindexing is the "start again from scratch" solution.

In general though baloo should be quick at noticing new files and changed file
details. It knows "content indexing" is harder work and queues up "full text"
indexing (something you can watch happening with a "balooctl monitor")

> ... Maybe it would be better if dolphin did
> fallback to the classic search when baloo can't find needed files?
I'm not sure how Dolphin would know that baloo has not indexed particular
files.

It *does* check what folders baloo is indexing and whether baloo is enabled and
"falls back" to it's internal search if it thinks baloo hasn't indexed the
folder. That can be messy - Bug 424871, 4th comment shows how messy.

Thanks for the feedback. The entries probably come from a bug in an older
digiKam version. I close the bug for digiKam-7.8.0.

The Geolocation Editor has a database interface when running under digiKam and
writes directly into the database. You have to activate the option in the
digiKam Setup under Metadata that you also want to write GPS information in the
images.

You should also deactivate internal debugging again, as it can slow down
digiKam, the Windows kernel takes a relatively long time for the debug
messages.

[kwin] [Bug 453994] gap/spacing between desktops can't be configured anymore

For bookkeeping here, i've opened an MR to address this border/spacing
preference with a borderless toggle instead of a granular value as before:
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/2806.

Also, not the place for a discussion but:
>It seems like over-configurability
Being funny: If we're talking about over-configurability, let's look at the old
Present Windows effect before it was reworked :)

Being serious: Over-configurability out of the box is what gives KDE so much
"ability" in my eyes over any other DE. Many settings could be streamlined and
refactored, sure, like the simpler toggle I'm proposing for the grid width, but
removing settings/preference ability and calling it a day isn't really cool.
This was definitely a regression!

Being sentimental: For years I ran other DEs with Kwin_X11, just for the
light-years-ahead effects and settings available in the compositor, and for the
last 2 years it's been the entire KDE stack for me. I'm a fan of the Desktop
Grid in particular and how it blew traditional multitasking out of the water,
and still does even as we're building it back up after this QML rewrite.
The QML rewrite's goal was to be as transparent as possible to the end user,
and we're getting there, but I think every removed feature should be
reconsidered if someone speaks up about it!

Looking to DebugView log, it seems that digiKam/Qt does not manage to find a

>From the info I was able to gather, those also seems to be part of Mesa3d

Unsurprinsingly, I was not able to find any of those library anywhere on my
system...
Should those libraries be part of the Windows bundle or be already part of the
system?

[valgrind] [Bug 458118] Track deletions of objects from unloaded shared libraries

(In reply to Paul Floyd from comment #1)
> Does --keep-debuginfo=yes make any difference?

> Also can you provide a small example that reproduces the issue?

This does not make any difference for me. Here is an example repo:
https://github.com/Spirrwell/so_unload_delete_demo

It is worth noting that when using --leak-check=full, valgrind does pick up on
the fact that there's a leak relating to dlclose in this example. But only when
these two things are side-by-side in such a small example would I be able to
see the relation between the two.

While debugging this big old application, I had a giant wall of leaks and I was
trying to debug what I THOUGHT was heap corruption, but was simply this shared
library unloading issue. So having ANY little extra hint that this kind of
problem occurred would be quite useful.

Also experiencing this with version 22.04.3, tried downgrading to 22.04.2 still
happened. Exported all my feeds, moved akregator configs & files in .config and
.local/share. Started akregator and it seemed like a clean slate so I deleted
the default feeds and re-imported my old feeds. Seemed okay for awhile, but
eventually it started happening again. And it's not just youtube feeds, random
blogs and podcast feeds also show up in youtube feeds and vice versa. Gonna try
downgrading further (to oldest one that will still run) and see if that fixes
it, will report back.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I just wouldn't have thought of it myself.

Also, there is a very funny behavior if "Limit number of tabs" limit to 1.
Guys, something must be done about this.

[konsole] [Bug 458150] New: writing corrupt config file when drive is full

2022-08-21 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458150

Bug ID: 458150
Summary: writing corrupt config file when drive is full
   Product: konsole
   Version: 22.04.3
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: konsole-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: saund...@pagpaintball.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.
See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. random broken program fills /home
2. konsole tries to write ~/.config/konsolerc
3. truncated file loses all previous settings

OBSERVED RESULT
konsole lost all settings

EXPECTED RESULT
konsole does not lose all settings

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma:
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.97.0
Qt Version: 5.15.5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I know this is very much an edge case but figured I would report it anyway. I
am reporting this under konsole as this is where I experienced the corruption
but I assume this could happen to any app.

A random garbage program filled my /home and, I assume, konsole went to
overwrite the previous existing ~/.config/konsolerc and failed in writing the
full file, effectively losing all settings.

I can't think of a real solution to this, only thing I could imagine was if
/home was <1M then don't write the config. A warning popped up once it was at
0% full and offered to open filelight which was a nice touch.

One that implements a proper replacement for ZapfDingbats, there's many, givne

[digikam] [Bug 458145] Geolocation editor works properly when opened from ShowFoto but not when opened from digiKam

2022-08-21 Thread Jean-Fred
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458145

Hi again Maik,

Thanks A LOT!
That was it... Now things work smoothly and I can edit picture Geolocation
directly from DigiKam.

... not sure where those double slashes are coming from in my config. I'm using
same database from years, and this slash thing sems to only affect Geolocation
Editor (I juts tried it recently).
Quick question: my understanding is that Geolocation Editor directly add/edit
GPS EXIF tags in picture files, not only in DigiKam database (independantly of
how digiKam is configured). Is that a correct understanding?

Thanks again for your time and help with this!

Regards,

Jean-Fred

qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation > kwinsupportinfo.txt

Throwing my hat in before this gets auto-closed to say I've also been
experiencing this issue.
Mostly with Chromium and Firefox, but I've seen it in other apps like System
Monitor and even the taskbar once or twice.
The window will stop repainting, and while it will respond to input it will
only actually repaint if moved or resized.
My current workaround is to simply close and reopen the window (minimizing and
restoring doesn't work).

Distro: Gentoo
Kernel: 5.19.1-gentoo-x86_64
Graphics: GTX 1080Ti, nvidia-drivers 515.65.01
KDE: Plasma 5.25.4, Frameworks 5.97.0, Breeze Dark theme (if that matters)

Often, the affected window is a browser window that contains media (i.e. a
YouTube tab).

I believe I am experiencing this on Kubuntu 22.04 LTS (since installing in Apr
2022, and through various updates). If it is a short sleep, no issues. If it
is longer than a few minutes, the secondary monitor "forgets" the wallpaper and
sets the default one.
My main monitor is a 2K via DP, secondary is a FHD via HDMI. It is a
custom-built PC (desktop, mid-tower). Apologies for the "below tech" addition
here, just wanted to add Kubuntu 22.04 into the mix. DM is in a dark theme,
but I've set the wallpapers in both dark and light themes, and still experience
this.
