[frameworks-kwallet] [Bug 458085] Wallet system takes about 1 minute to start

2022-08-29 Thread michaelk83
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458085

(In reply to michaelk83 from comment #27)
> A more robust approach is to check if the key/passphrase are already loaded
> into gpg-agent,
> and if not, display a prompt and pre-load the passphrase before trying to
> unlock.
This is also not ideal, since it will force manual entry of the passphrase.
This would break the workflow for users that prefer to use a smart-card, for
example.

The fundamental problem is that KWallet relies on an external tool (GPG) for
its encryption, instead of a library. If that tool tries to load the passphrase
from KWallet, we get this bug.

But I found that one should be able to control this for GPG using it's
`pinentry` setting - https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GnuPG#pinentry . In
particular:
> `/usr/bin/pinentry-gtk-2` and `/usr/bin/pinentry-gnome3` support the DBus
> Secret Service API,
> which allows for remembering passwords via a compliant manager such as GNOME
> Keyring or KeePassXC.
The same problem should occur with the old KWallet API if `pinentry-kwallet` is
used.

So using a different pinentry program should fix this bug without changing any
code, and without the problems of the other solutions I've proposed above.
@nic.christin, could you try entering the following line in your
`gpg-agent.conf`:
> pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry-qt
You may need to install the `pinentry-qt` package.

I too can confirm that these are no longer working after upgrading to the same
version on my Arch installation.

Additionally, I performed a clean Arch install recently on a different machine,
and that also has the issue, so unlikely something to do with the upgrade
process.

KMail 5.21.0 (22.08.0)

Running it from with Kontact makes no difference.

If I right-click on an address and select Show HTML Format -> Show HTML format
when mail comes from this contact, I am asked to "Select the address book where
the contact will be saved", despite already having the contact in the address
book. This happens every time, and ends up creating a duplicate entry every
time. Clicking away from the e-mail to a different one, and then jumping back,
the settings for the e-mail are reset again. It's as if the existing contacts
are no longer visible.

All of my contacts in ~/.local/share/contacts are configured to have the
following settings:

X-KADDRESSBOOK-MailAllowToRemoteContent:TRUE
X-KADDRESSBOOK-MailPreferedFormatting:HTML

All were configured through KAddressBook / Konact, none were hand-edited.
Clicking on Edit Contact there does show the same settings as per the above
"contact settings" PNG screenshot.

This definitely used to work for me, so there has been a regression introduced
somewhere.

The issue is most apparent when Dolphin is monitoring the folder in which the
file is being saved into. Otherwise, the operation is unremarkable. This can be
seen occurring in real time. With the Dolphin window showing any other folder,
the multiple running instances of kioslave5 are totalling well under 1 Gb of
memory. As soon as the folder in which the file is being saved into is entered
from the Dolphin window, there is an immediate appearance of an instance of
kioslave5 with the behaviour described above.

The best part is Kolourpaint, use it as daily, simple & casual image editor
(cropping, resizing, adding basic text).

In the future Kolourpaint release, would you please to add Outline Text to
Kolourpaint. Somehow I have to add text to an image, and I don't want to open
heavier image editor, just to put outline text.

Many thanks for KDE team. Bravo.

(strace file)

Hello guys,

I'm running Debian 11/stable and the gwenview I have is of version 20.12.3
which is like 2 years behind what it is now 
Today I launched it for the very first time and after leaving it idle for a
while i noticed it was maxing out CPU.
I look closer with strace and can see it does some repetitive kernel calls to
open various thubmnail files from my home dir, which do not exist. Like it's
trying to identify if there's a thumbnail exist for some image:

=== cut ==
 0.000160 openat(AT_FDCWD,
"/home/pi/.cache/thumbnails/normal/c7fcf9994e28aa4446314e8d44702782.png",
O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)
 0.000370 openat(AT_FDCWD,
"/home/pi/.cache/thumbnails/normal/c7fcf9994e28aa4446314e8d44702782.png.bmp",
O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT
(No such file or directory)
 0.000117 openat(AT_FDCWD,
"/home/pi/.cache/thumbnails/normal/c7fcf9994e28aa4446314e8d44702782.png.cur",
O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT

 0.000102 openat(AT_FDCWD,

And all those calls are attributed to vast majority of time that app was
spending on CPU:

Attaching a raw strace log as well for the period of time when this issue was
happening.

I'm guessing there's no need to try to probe each and every filetype for a
thumbnail. I'm 100% sure users are not configuring their thumbnails to be
created in different image formats.

>From the user perspective the issue is like this - when you open some folder
with big amount of images (in my case it was like few thousands) and leave it
idle, the gwenview first maxes out CPU, then goes into SWAP then system
starting to die.

I would be glad if you can give me some URL for build instructions for
gwenview, so I could check the same behavior in the most recent version. I do
have a recent experience of building a Kate :)

screenshoot

I have downloaded a .flatpak file (not .flatpakref file) and opened with
Discover, then it prompted message "xx.xx.xx(flatpak app dns name) is not
installed but it still has data present" with a button "Delete settings and
user data" , if click that button then Discover will delete the ~/.var folder.
I was lucky that I had regular backups of my data so I didn't suffer a huge
loss.

I think the message is told me that there is already a data directory in my
~/.var/app for the opened .flatpak app, but in fact my ~/.var/app didn't
have. The whole prompt and button misled me into thinking it was just deleting
the data for a specific flatpak app under ~/.var/app, but then I pressed the
button and realized it was deleting the entire ~/.var folder.

buildsystem: Fix for storePersistentOptions when ~/.local/state doesn't exist

kdesrc-build fails if `~/.local/state/` doesn't exist. This is very confusing,
especially for people that try to build KDE for the first time. This change
fixes that bug by creating the folder if it doesn't exist.

Yes, this is an issue with macOSX. Please report to Apple. Given that you do
not provide a link to your "previous bug report", I might lack a bit of
context, but... The change between full-screen and none-full-screen is not
something that's done inside Krita, it's Apple designed. So please take that
upi with Apple.

You can hide all dockers with a simple shortcut while not hiding the rest of
the affordances in Krita anyway, and that's been avaiable since 2006. Assign a
shortcut to "show dockers" in Krita's settings. There is no default shortcut,
because people who don't understand how computers work would accidentally hit
the default shortcut would hit that and then file a useless bug report because
they would have lost their panels without knowing what they were doing.

And you can, of course, define which parts of Krita are shown and hidden in
canvas-only mode in the settings, and that includes the dockers.

[krita] [Bug 458489] New: View > Show Canvas Only automatically enters fullscreen, causing lag on Mac

2022-08-29 Thread Miles

   Version: 5.1.0

  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: treefrog...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Entering and exiting fullscreen on Mac systems is a heavy, laggy operation. My
previous bug report addressed a flaw in the implementation of the current
design, but I believe the design itself is flawed. Toggling fullscreen mode and
toggling the palettes are separate concerns, and I believe they should be
treated as such in this case. The use case of hiding all palettes while keeping
the window as a window is a real thing. Currently the only way to arrive at
such a combination of modes (fullscreen off, canvas-only on) is to enter
canvas-only, and then exit fullscreen, which is just exploiting a glitch in the
implementation. I propose totally decoupling the two modes. Simple, independent
toggles for each. No automatic magic.

SUMMARY
If the Krita window enters fullscreen mode on Mac by use of the green button in
the titlebar rather than View > Full Screen Mode, and then View > Show Canvas
Only is used, then, when Show Canvas Only is exited, fullscreen is exited as
well.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Krita on a Mac.
2. Click the green button in the titlebar and wait for the window to go
fullscreen.
3. Select the menu item View > Show Canvas Only, or use your associated
keyboard shortcut.
4. Repeat step 3 so as to uncheck Show Canvas Only.

OBSERVED RESULT
In addition to exiting Canvas Only mode, the window exits fullscreen mode.

EXPECTED RESULT
When exiting Canvas Only mode, the window should return to whatever state of
fullscreenitude it was in before Canvas Only mode was entered, as it does with
the use of View > Full Screen Mode.

Bug ID: 458487
Summary: Share Plugin: URLs with titles should be shared as

   Product: kdeconnect
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: android-application

  Reporter: si...@ergotech.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Some apps (Google News, some RSS readers, probably others), when you share a
link from them, send it in the form of "title \n url".

KDE Connect should share just the URL (perhaps under a toggle switch, in case
users like the "pretty" url)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Share URL from certain applications using KDE Connect

OBSERVED RESULT
URL is opened in a text editor window with "title \n url"

EXPECTED RESULT
URL is opened in the default handler for the URL type.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This ought to be caught and handled on the sending (Android) side, not on the
receiving side.

(In reply to michaelk83 from comment #26)
> So short-circuiting `OpenSession` while waiting on GPG should fix this, IMO.
> It should return something like `InvalidMethodCall`, or simply `NotSupported`.
On further thought, this can still cause problems if two or more apps try to
unlock the wallet at the same time. The 1st one would short-circuit
`OpenSession` while unlocking the wallet, and then the 2nd may get the
short-circuit response instead of the normal response.

A more robust approach is to check if the key/passphrase are already loaded
into gpg-agent, and if not, display a prompt and pre-load the passphrase before
trying to unlock. See https://linux.die.net/man/1/gpg-preset-passphrase .

Thanks for reporting.

I will see what can be done there. The huge advantage of the current
hash-based filenames is that there are no worries whatsoever about invalid
characters in filenames. If the podcast and/or episode titles are used, then
you can get into nasty territory concerning i18n and underlying filesystems not
supporting certain characters.

On the master branch a new feature has already been implemented that lets you
select what happens when new podcasts are added. You can set it such that no
episodes are marked as played when you add a new one.

This feature will be available in the next release. I think this will be in
September (but it depends on the release schedule of plasma mobile gear).

[krita] [Bug 458485] New: krita 5.1 is unable to open on my windows pc but will open on my windows 11 laptops

SUMMARY
I did the update as I would normally do on my windows 10 gaming tower and after
I opened krita. The loading screen only said adding resources and then click on
to be told that the program doesn't work and needs to be closed. I'm now back
at the 5.0.6 version of krita and I feel like I'm doomed to be unable for good
to have the new features of krita 5.1 forever. Only the version 5.0.6 of krita
work on my windows 10 pc. I've also done a bunch of things and the update would
still not not work on my gaming pc. I'm now in despair for any help to get this
update to work on my windows 10 pc. I did download the update as I normally do
and this is the first time this happened to me.

Thanks! This confirms that the problem step is when gpg-agent tries to load the
key/passphrase for the first time. Once it's loaded and cached in gpg-agent,
further use bypasses Secret Service and works as expected.

>variant array of bytes [
>
> ]
>

Presumably, this is gpg-agent trying to open a session with Secret Service, to
retrieve the key passphrase. If this is the only output, then it seems kwalletd
is stuck on the `OpenSession` call until it eventually times out. Then
gpg-agent gives up and shows the prompt.

So short-circuiting `OpenSession` while waiting on GPG should fix this, IMO. It
should return something like `InvalidMethodCall`, or simply `NotSupported`.
Also, the GPG unlock call needs to be asynchronous, so it won't block the
Secret Service API handler. The two lines of interest are:
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kwallet/-/blob/master/src/runtime/kwalletd/kwalletfreedesktopservice.cpp#L261
and
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kwallet/-/blob/master/src/runtime/kwalletd/backend/backendpersisthandler.cpp#L625
(or one of its callers, see the backtrace in comment 15).

I don't have an environment set up to make a patch, but hopefully @Nicolas
Fella or someone else can pick this up from here.

Btw, there's another small bug in `kwalletfreedesktopservice.cpp` line 264 -
according to the specs, it should return
`org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NotSupported`, instead of `InvalidArgs`:
https://specifications.freedesktop.org/secret-service/latest/ch07.html#idm46274163163312
> If a service does not support a specific set of algorithms, a
> org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NotSupported
> error is returned, and the client is free to try another set of algorithms.

Windowed vs Maximized

SUMMARY

When using the option that allows X11 apps to apply scaling themselves, apps
are still blurry unless they are maximized.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set a fractional scale in Wayland
2. Enable the option that lets X11 apps apply scaling themselves
3. Open a legacy app and observe the crispness when it is windowed and
maximized.

OBSERVED RESULT

When using the option that allows X11 apps to apply scaling themselves, apps
are still blurry unless they are maximized. Apps look more crisp when they are
maximized.

EXPECTED RESULT

Legacy apps are crisp when windowed and maximized.

I was dealing with the same annoying issue and this seemed to fix it:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA/Tips_and_tricks#Preserve_video_memory_after_suspend
. Not only that, it fixed other instabilities I was experiencing as well, like
the X11 server completely crashing in rare cases, when the sound volume popup
was shown.

The driver discards the contents of the VRAM when suspending by default and
tries to recostruct the previous state on wake up somehow(?). This fix
instructs the driver to save the original contents and restore them on wake up.

Here's a one liner fix:

echo "options nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1
NVreg_TemporaryFilePath=/var/tmp" | sudo tee
/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-vram-fix.conf

While this fixes the issue, I'm still not entirely sure, if this is 100%
Nvidia's fault, as Gnome can handle the driver's default behavior.

themselves" option
   Product: kwin
   Version: git master
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic

Created attachment 151687
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=151687=edit
Shows the gap on Blender when using 115% display scale.

SUMMARY

When using the X11 apps apply scaling themselves option, there is a 1 or 2 px
gap along the right and bottom edges of a window.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set a fractional scale on Wayland
2. Enable the "Apps apply scaling themselves" option for X11 apps in display

bottom of the ledger. I would like to see the date of last update for
Investment accounts, and possible also Brokerage accounts. As a secondary
wish, for a Brokerage account, the balance could be shown if included in the
download, and for an Investment account, some indication of whether or not all
security positions match any such information in the download.

I agree with Martin, the tooltips should appear only when the user hover over

Bug ID: 458476

Status: REPORTED

Created attachment 151686
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=151686=edit
Picture of the broken theme compared to the correct theme application after
downgrade.

SUMMARY

After the upgrade to version 22.08.0 via pacman the QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME
environment variable override which I set to `gnome` seems to no longer be
respected. The `gnome` theme is supposed to integrate QT applications visually
into the Gnome desktop and should in this case result in a dark Adwaita-like
theming. It is part of the package qgnomeplatform-qt5.
However, the theme is a mashup of light background with dark buttons (see
attachment). I use the GNOME DE version 42.4 with Wayland. Okular runs in
XWayland as QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland is NOT set. This bug is only present in
Okular, no other QT application (e.g. owncloud-client, qt5ct) work fine. The
bug disappears after downgrading the okular package to version 22.04.3-1 from
the Arch Linux repositories.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install the current Arch Linux version
2. Install qgnomeplatform-qt5
3. Set the QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=gnome environment variable
4. Open a pdf in okular

OBSERVED RESULT
The Okular QT theme is broken.

EXPECTED RESULT
The Okular QT theme should correspont to the one set in the
QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME environment variable.

[plasmashell] [Bug 353975] Black screen on second display (no wallpaper, can't get a context menu on right-click)

2022-08-29 Thread Trent M
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353975

Gene C is right; be careful that your window titles aren't showing any
sensitive information when you share your results. It is my bad for not
cautioning against that as well. I apologize.

Lukas, your test case proves that my hypothesis is correct in some situations.
It does not appear to be the case for all situations, but at least I was not
completely off base.

See here, when you are first experiencing the error:

> 0x02400017 -1 1280 01920 1080 lukas-laptop Arbeitsfläche — Plasma
> 0x0240001d -1 1920 01280 1024 lukas-laptop Arbeitsfläche — Plasma

These are the desktop windows. The third through seventh columns represent x
position, y position, width, and height, in that order.

Now see the same windows when you are not having the problem:

> 0x02400017 -1 1280 01920 1080 lukas-laptop Arbeitsfläche — Plasma
> 0x0240001d -1 001280 1024 lukas-laptop Arbeitsfläche — Plasma

One of your monitors' desktop windows stays in the right place, the one at
1280,0. That's your right-side monitor. However, the desktop window that should
be covering your left monitor wanders off to 1920,0 in the case where you are
experiencing the black-screen bug, leaving the completely useless root window
exposed beneath it. And interestingly, it causes the two windows to overlap
*partially*, not completely. Lukas, on your right monitor, do you sometimes see
the wallpapers partially overlapped when this problem is occurring?

The fact that your monitors have different sizes exposes a pretty interesting
facet of this problem. During the case where the black screen monitor bug is
occurring, the desktop windows don't seem to know which of them is the
right-side monitor. The fact that the window for your 1280x1024 monitor goes to
1920,0 suggests that it thinks it's supposed to be on the right side for some
period of time, and it just never gets corrected.

Because your monitors are different sizes, you could actually fix this with
devilspie2 or a KWin script: you would check the sizes of the windows of class
plasmashell and type desktop. Whichever one is 1280x1024, you move it to 0,0.
Whichever one is 1920x1080, you move it to 1280,0. You would not be able to use
KWin's window rules to fix this though, because it doesn't let you match
windows on their sizes. For folks with monitors that are the same size though,
they're out of luck for a workaround; the windows seem to be identical
otherwise. They don't expose any differentiating information via xprop,
presumably because the windows are supposed to simply do the right thing by
themselves, and they're unfortunately not at the moment.

SUMMARY
For a simple combination of filters, Krita took 10minutes to refresh
document

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a document large enough (7000x5000)
2. Add a group layer "G1"
3. In group layer "G1", add a paint layer "PL1"; fill it with a color
4. On paint layer "PL1", add a transform mask ("mesh transform") "TM1"
5. In group layer "G1", add a filter layer "FL1" (type gaussian blur with
default value of 5pixels)
6. Select paint layer "PL1"
7. Fill it with another color

OBSERVED RESULT
>From step 7, it took ~10minutes of "updating" process on my computer...

EXPECTED RESULT
The gaussian filter normally took a second to be applied
The transform mask normally took 2-3 second to be applied

Combination of both shouldn't take 10minutes to be applied

timeline
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 22.08.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR

When dragging the "broken" clip part into the timeline

Cannot add clip part that goes to end of clip to timeline

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Import a clip
2. Cut the clip in the middle.
2. Use the "Save Clip Part to Bin" option on the second part of the clip.
3. Attempt to drag the saved part from the Project Bin into the timeline.

OBSERVED RESULT

The clip part is not added. The cursor switches to grabbing and the small gray
box is shown near the cursor as if a clip is being moved, but nothing is
actually added on release, and the preview of where the clip would go is not
shown.

EXPECTED RESULT

The clip part is added, like any other clip part.

glitch

SUMMARY
When the file names are sorted by name and you re-name a file and "tab" to the
next file, the re-ordering of the list appears to select the wrong file. The
attached gif may help better than the steps to reproduce.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a set of files (1.txt, 2.txt 5.txt)
2. Set view to "detailed"
3. Sort files by name
4. Start renaming the files from 1.txt to a.txt
5. Hit tab to go to the next file
6. See that the wrong file is selected

OBSERVED RESULT
I see that it initially selects "2.txt" but then after the files are re-ordered
"3.txt" is selected and will be renamed

EXPECTED RESULT
I expect 2.txt to be selected since that was the next in the list when I hit
tab.

[krita] [Bug 458471] New: Locking/Unlocking layer generate an update of layer stack

2022-08-29 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458471

Bug ID: 458471
Summary: Locking/Unlocking layer generate an update of layer
stack
   Product: krita
   Version: 5.1.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Layer Stack
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: grum...@grum.fr
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
In synthesis, if filter mask/transform mask is attached to a layer, lock/unlock
action on layer and/or mask will generate an update of layer.

A more detailed an readable summary is available on krita-artists
(https://krita-artists.org/t/locking-unlocking-layer-does-it-need-to-recompute-everything/46462/8?u=grum999)
There's different case/combination where it's possible to reproduce the problem
(really not easy to write/provide clear explanation without text formatting
here :-) )

Also note on krita-artists topice, there's 2 problem (this one and another one
related to performance: problem about performance will be reported in an
another bug report)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Describe only the first case of 7 described on krita-artists
1. Create a new document (a large one 7000x5000 help to see better the
problem)
2. Fill paint layer
3. Add a transform mask and edit it ("mesh transform" help to see better the
problem, but problem occurs with any transform mode)
4a. Lock/Unlock paint layer and/or transform mask
4b. Alphalock/Alphaunlock paint layer

OBSERVED RESULT
Layer is updated (flickering canvas + update progress bar in status bar)

EXPECTED RESULT
Lock/Unlock shouldn't have an impact on canvas refresh

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
  Build ABI: x86_64-little_endian-lp64
  Build CPU: x86_64
  CPU: x86_64
  Kernel Type: linux
  Kernel Version: 4.19.0-21-amd64
Pretty Productname: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)
  Product Type: debian
  Product Version: 10
  Desktop: KDE

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
>From python scripting
```
from krita import *
d=Krita.instance().activeDocument()
n=d.activeNode()
n.setLocked(not n.locked() )
# n.setAlphaLocked(not n.alphaLocked() )
```
We can see that update is not triggered

Problem seems to be related to action made from user interface only:
- modify value from layer stack
- from layer stack when access to layer properties [F3] and change property,
problem occurs too

Tested on Krita 4.2.8, 4.2.9, 4.3.0, 4.4.8, 5.0.6, 5.1.0, 5.2.0a
-> problem start to occurs from Krita 4.3.0

I haven't seen this behavior elsewhere, only with this game and only with
Wayland, not with X
