I don't know. I don't normally run Wayland due to some focus and sharing issues

[NeoChat] [Bug 473271] New: Leaving an apparently empty space while viewing it results in the joined room list being hidden until next NeoChat restart

2023-08-10 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473271

Bug ID: 473271
Summary: Leaving an apparently empty space while viewing it
results in the joined room list being hidden until
next NeoChat restart
Classification: Applications
   Product: NeoChat
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: fe...@posteo.de
  Reporter: arraybo...@gmail.com
CC: c...@carlschwan.eu
  Target Milestone: ---

NOTE: I suspect this is a duplicate of
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472836 but since the way I caused the
problem mentioned here was slightly different, I'm reporting it as a different
bug.

SUMMARY
If you join a space in NeoChat, you will see a button for your "home" (where
your main room list is), and a button for the space you just joined (both of
these buttons will appear at the top of the room list). If the space you joined
appears to be empty, and you leave that space while you still have it selected,
the button that allows you to go back to your home list will vanish and you
will not be able to see any of the rooms you are in. Resolving this requires
restarting NeoChat.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Join some rooms.
2. Join a space that appears to be empty in NeoChat (#solus:matrix.org did the
trick for me).
3. Make sure that the space you just joined is selected.
4. Right-click on the space and click "Leave space".

OBSERVED RESULT
You are left looking at an empty room list.

EXPECTED RESULT
You should be switched back to your "home" room list after leaving the space.

This bug is from KDE 4.4.3, not Plasma 5.15.3. This problem appears to be fixed
because I could not reproduce it. It's unclear if Ural was referring to the

has a similar issue, please test the newest version of Plasma and make a new

The bug explicitly states that it's encountered in X11
But this particular bug is only encountered in Wayland.

The problem seems to be very different on the other ticket (not hotkeys, but
some menu items activation)

I had to re-assign my shortcuts in order to use wayland session, and I'd love
to get to my original shortcuts. It's definitely wayland-specific.
Any way you could reconsider making this a duplicate @Nate?

[dolphin] [Bug 473268] New: Whether File is "Executable" Depends on Extension, not Execute Bit

2023-08-10 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473268

Bug ID: 473268
Summary: Whether File is "Executable" Depends on Extension, not
Execute Bit
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 22.12.3
  Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: view-engine: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: stellarpo...@googlemail.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Whilst posix shells are traditionally the most common on linux, there are many
options now. Not all shell scripts end in `.sh`, and whether a file can be
executed or not is determined by the execute bit on linux - and not by any file
extension or similar conventions. With many shells to choose from, and not to
mention other languages, such as Ruby or Python, and the ability to have more
complex shebanhgs, there's an increasing range of text files one might want to
execute directly.

I use fish a lot, and now more nushell aswell, and whilst often I do want to
open my scripts to edit them, it is also convenient to be able to execute them
with a double-click with no arguments from within dolphin. I would like to be
prompted if I want to open or execute an executable text file of any type, the
same way I would if it is evidently a script for one of the posix-style shells.
I think on linux, the execute bit trumps the extension, which seems to me to be
a deciding factor. This is the behaviour I have had on Nemo (and I assume
nautilus too). At the least, if there are disagreements on whether users would
prefer this or not, I think this should be a configurable option. E.g. "Treat
all files with execute bit set as executable" (for the purposes of determining
whether to open in an application, execute, or always ask), or "Only treat
certain known executable file formats as executable".

On linux:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a shell script in a language of your choice.
1. Give it the extension ".sh"
1. Set the execute bit
1. Double-click in Dolphin. It should execute, or prompt, according to your
preference in the settings.
1. Now name it ending in e.g. .fish., .nu, .xonsh, ...

OBSERVED RESULT
1. Double-clicking opens it in Kate (for me)

EXPECTED RESULT
1. Double-clicking it still executes it

2023-08-10 Thread bugzilla_noreply

Classification: Plasma

  Target Milestone: ---

On Wayland, swiping up with four fingers on the touchpad opens the desktop grid
instead of the (newer and more functional) overview.

Opening the overview with this gesture would be far more useful, and also more
consistent with the touchscreen three-finger-swipe-up gesture, which opens the
overview.

There is also no way of changing this or any of the other gestures as far as I
can tell.

[krita] [Bug 473265] New: Unable move layer effects window

When you create a vector layer and open the context menu of the layer by
selecting the option to open the effects window, you cannot move it from the
center of the screen, you cannot see the result in preview mode as you
configure the effects Effects, if you try to move this window it will move the
whole krita window and it won't allow to display the image.

[kphotoalbum] [Bug 473231] KPhotoAlbum crashes when a invalid file name is provided in the Open List of Files window

Victor Lobo changed:

 Resolution|FIXED |---

Thank you! While testing the fix I noticed an edge case scenario which still
causes the crash.

Scenario is:
1. File exists on the disk, and
2. File exists under the KPA image root directory, but
3. File does not exist in KPA database

Where #3 could be due to
a. File exists in a directory under the KPA root but is excluded from new file
search (via Settings).
b. File has recently been added to KPA root and rescan has not been done.
c. File exists under the KPA root but is not an image file.

Easiest way to reproduce the crash in the fixed version is via 3.c:
i. In the demo database enter "index.xml" without the quotes as the filename
in Open List of Files.
ii. KPhotoAlbum crashes.

It seems it doesnt disable the BT device, so something crashes. The process

I have a Bluetooth speaker that is detected and can be used for audio output,
so its shown under "Audio Devices".

But when disabling bluetooth, its still there.

1. Rhw sound output doesnt change back automatically
2. A false device is shown
3. A new reconnect will result in weird behavior, probably duplication

A way to detect if a device is actually working or connected would be great
(this doesnt only apply for Bluetooth).

Also a way to bind a device to "Bluetooth", so that it can be immediately
removed if Bluetooth is disabled, could help.

Unfortunately, the debug log is without the Qt-Debug Variable exported in the
terminal. The only suspect is that the file modification date could not be
restored. Do you have full writing rights on the directory? A harddisk error
would also be conceivable. In any case, the problem cannot be reproduced here
with the Appimage.

Thanks, but that's actually not an icon *name*; it's an image file. Are you
saying that it loads an image file for its system tray icon, rather than asking
for a named icon from the icon theme? If it uses an image file rather than
asking for a named icon from the icon theme, then unfortunately there is

I don't feel you have to apologize for bringing all that information you've
been finding out on your own to this thread. On the contrary, I, as affected by
the problem, I want to thank you for the time you have spent to collect the
information you have reflected here, sometimes it seems that developers forget
that users like you, also spend time selflessly to provide everything possible
to facilitate developers to resolve issues like this.

However, on more than one occasion I have experienced in many cases in open
threads, silence as a response after providing information and, even worse,
after some time without response or more questions from developers, an
automatic message from the system warning that the thread will be closed
shortly "For lack of information or inactivity". That is to say, time wasted
that in the end makes you wonder on more than one occasion whether to provide
some information for the resolution of the incidents.

For my part, THANK YOU

Can confirm that this is the observed behavior, but I don't understand the
motivation for what you consider the expected behavior. I can see how one might
find it would make sense for the previous brightness to be restored (which
would be 0% in your scenario). I can also see the rationale behind the current
behavior that on wakeup, the screen should not just stay off so the alternative
is to toggle it to full brightness instead. But why should it be neither full
brightness nor what was previously manually set but something in between (5%)?

This bug is for KDE 3.1.1a, not for Plasma 5.15.3. I don't think we should add
this option because many actions won't be appropriate for automatic activation,
even if there's only one. We'd need options for each individual action to keep
users from accidentally doing something unsafe. There doesn't seem to be much
demand for this feature, so I'm marking it as resolved and intentionally not
implemented.

Because Dolphin knows that a file/window is being opened so it can request an
activation token from the compositor.

Konsole doesn't know that running "kate bla.txt" opens a file but "ls bla.txt"
doesn't. Konsole only hosts bash or whatever shell you are using, it doesn't
know what's happening inside that

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 5.20.5 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from
KDE; supported versions are 5.27, and 5.27 or newer. Please upgrade to a
supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you.
Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the
next one.

If you need support for Plasma 5.20.5, please contact your distribution, who
bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no
longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel
free to re-open this bug report.

There are actually a few of them that are variations of each other. It's very
flexible and customizeable. If you want to start with a blank slate, look for
"System Monitor Sensor" and customize it to your liking. It's not a system tray
applet though, it's a regular Plasma widget. It still has the option to open a
full windowed system monitor app when you right click on it.

I'm new here, and this is in this category as I don't know where it would be as
it effects most important, if not all, kde plasma apps.

I'm not sure if this is intended or not, but my assumption is it isn't as there
is no easy way to disable it.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download a kde plasma app, like kwrite, on a system with kde installed.
2. Open a de or wm that is not kde plasma
3. Use KWrite or another app, and try to use a kde keybind.

OBSERVED RESULT
The kde keybinds work

EXPECTED RESULT
None of them work, as you aren't in kde.

[plasmashell] [Bug 473260] New: Clicking a program icon and/or preview on a Task Manager crashes plasma and all open applications.

2023-08-10 Thread bugzilla_noreply

Bug ID: 473260
Summary: Clicking a program icon and/or preview on a Task
Manager crashes plasma and all open applications.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: cool.ghost.vi...@gmail.com
CC: qydwhotm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
I have several Desktops with the following apps open: Firefox on Desktop 1,
Telegram (latest package from Flatpak) and Discord (from binaries) on Dektop 2,
wezterm and Dolphin on desktops 1-3.

Seemingly randomly when I click an icon of an app that's on another Desktop the
entire DE crashes, taking all open apps with it and restarts after a brief
moment. The active app is Telegram.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE (can't reliably reproduce)
1. Open Firefox on Desktop 1. Open Discord and Telegram on Desktop 2.
2. Have Telegram window open.
3. Click an icon of another app on Task manager.

I would like to provide a more detailed info, but I have trouble understanding
how to reproduce the crash reliably and how to get the traces.

It appears that the original report and the comment from 4k1r4.rulez may be
about different bugs.

For the original bug, I tried copying a folder to see a dialog, and looked at
its atoms with xprop. The dialog has `_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE(ATOM) =
_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_DIALOG, _NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_NORMAL`, which seems fine.

For 4k1r4.rulez's bug, I looked at the system tray's popup with xprop. The
system tray has `_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE(ATOM) =
_KDE_NET_WM_WINDOW_TYPE_APPLET_POPUP`, which I don't necessarily see an issue
with. It's not a standard dialog, nor is it a normal window, it's a shell
popup.

Since the original bug report seems to be about actual dialog windows, I'm
marking this as fixed.

Neil, please look at the bug at bugs.kde.org comments 2 and 4, and you can see
how not trimming the previous content clutters the bug.
Don't worry about the version, but the .80 in the daily build implies it was
compiled from the head of the git branch, not from a released version.
Mentioning it in the report as you have done is sufficient.
Did you try what Thomas suggested - launching the program from command line and
seeing if there is any relevant error message in the console output?
The error that zcat gives on your file suggests some problem with the file
itself. To check that, launch KMM from command line with "kmymoney -n" which
tells it not to open any data file. If that crashes, the the bug is in the
program. If that opens ok, and then crashes when you try to open your data
file, there is some problem with the data.
Is there anything in that dialog box for currency that might indicate what it
needs a currency for? i would guess it would only need that if it didn't
completely and successfully read the file.
Do you have any other version of KMM which opens that file ok? Do you have a
backup of that file to try?

When that happens, if you move your mouse over the battery icon in the panel,
what does it say? - e.g. "Battery at 60%, Charging"

Also, when this happens again, can you please open Konsole, enter

qdbus --system org.freedesktop.UPower
/org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/line_power_AC
org.freedesktop.UPower.Device.Online

and post the result here?

2023-08-10 Thread bugzilla_noreply

Alright, I ran the commands you told me, and I triggered the freeze again while
the dmesg command was running. Because the output drm-debug.log was over 6.8
megabytes in size, I couldn't attach it to this bug report normally. I didn't
want to risk trimming the file and loosing critical information, so I uploaded
it to my Onedrive, and here's the link so you can view it:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj62egREH4PT0nNny4mmBaDxsm2t?e=FlxMdK

I also attached the output of running the commands in the terminal if that's
relevant

-rw-r--r--@ 1 neilralph staff 967340 Aug 1 09:53 9gwengood4.kmy

I confirmed that I can open 9gwengood4.kmy with kmymoney.app (5.1.3)
I noticed that v 5.1.80 doesn't appear in the dropdown choices for the bug
report
I should also mention that, when opening with v5.1.80, kmymoney opens with a
dialog box asking for the currency type.
If I close the dialog without adding my currency (US Dollar) the program
crashes.
I never had issues with currency definition on previous upgrades (i have been
happily using kmymoney since 2008)

2023-08-10 Thread Guido
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473255

Bug ID: 473255
Summary: After resume, kscreenlocker interface appears
corrupted
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kscreenlocker
   Version: 5.27.7
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: guido.iod...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

This bug has been present for a long time but I have not found reports so I am
reporting it.

Some times, after resume, especially if the computer has gone into stand-by
automatically, the kcreenlocker interface appears corrupted: the avatar is
square instead of round, also the text shadows are missing.

I've had this for a few weeks, but it is compositor related, not Spectacle
specific. Spectacle's rectangular area capture triggers it. I've also had it
happen though when I:
1. Go into Manjaro Settings / Display and Monitor / and click on Compositor
(tried the various options there but no fix).
2. Krunner (but Albert and ULauncher work fine)

All the above result in a 30 sec or so freeze before activating. If I disable
Compositor, they all work instantly as expected.

I've just checked out the PDF import tool of KDE Itinerary. It also shows a
black screen and crashes, but afterward it does have the data from the PDF
imported. So it only seems to be a problem with displaying the content, not
with reading it.

[rkward] [Bug 473254] New: Graphics version mismatch

2023-08-10 Thread Francisco Cribari
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473254

Bug ID: 473254
   Summary: Graphics version mismatch
Classification: Applications
   Product: rkward
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: R Console
  Assignee: rkward-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: crib...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
I run rkward version 0.7.5-2 and R version 4.3.1 on Arch Linux. I am unable to
produce plots (with rkward's default settings).
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start rkward
2. Execute the following R code: a <- rnorm(1000); hist(a)

OBSERVED RESULT

The plot (histogram) is not produced. Instead, the following error is issued:
"R Graphics Engine version has changed (from 15 to 16). This change requires a
recompilation."

EXPECTED RESULT

A plot (histogram) should be produced.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux kernel 6.4.9-arch1-1
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.108.0
Qt Version: 5.5.10

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
---Problem description---
Please fill in the missing bits *in English*.

Please give a brief summary on the problem:
I am unable to produce plots (with rkward's default settings).

What - in detail - did you do directly before you encountered this problem?
Nothing

When you try to repeat the above, does the problem occur again (no, sometimes,
always)?
Always

If applicable: When doing the same thing in an R session outside of RKWard, do
you see the same problem?
No

Do you have any further information that might help us to track this problem
down? In particular, if applicable, can you provide sample data and sample R
code to reproduce this problem?
a <- rnorm(1000); hist(a)

RKWard is available in many different packagings, and sometimes problems are
specific to one method of installation. How did you install RKWard (which
file(s) did you download)?
>From the Arch Linux repositories.
