[digikam] [Bug 478423] New: Rating assignment via UI or shortcut is not consistent

2023-12-11 Thread Fabio Sirna
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478423

Bug ID: 478423
Summary: Rating assignment via UI or shortcut is not consistent
Classification: Applications
   Product: digikam
   Version: 8.1.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Tags-Rating
  Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: fa...@fabiosirna.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 164101
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=164101=edit
screenshot of the culling view

In digikam 8.1.0, if two images (JPG+RAW) are in a group and have the same
rating, in the setup I attach in the screenshot, there is inconsistent
behavior:

- if I click the star on the first thumbnail to downgrade from 3 to 2, only the
JPG (first image in the stack) is updated (this is a bug);

- if I press ctrl+2 to assign the rating via shortcut, both the JPG and RAW are
updated correctly (this is the correct behavior).

It's trying to find/open the database - something that should be under
~/.local/share/baloo

I think if the file's simply not there, you simply don't get any results. Maybe
the file has been truncated/corrupted.

Close down the baloo_file indexer, go to the folder and rename the "index"
file. Something like:

$ pkill baloo_file
$ cd ~/.local/share/baloo
$ mv index index.suspect

I assume your Arch runs with systemd, so you can restart the indexing with:

   $ systemd --user start kde-baloo

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 440066] Remote places not showing label in Places Panel when mounted through terminal

This same issue has affected me for a long time; I was glad to find it
mentioned here, and puzzled that no one had ever followed up with a suggestion
about the source of a label that could be used in place of the full path. In
my case, I mount numerous remote folders via sshfs, and in Dolphin these show
up under PLACES as the full local path to the mount-point I have selected,
which is useless for differentiation as the key information is the folder name
at the very end of the path (which is not visible as the path is much wider
than the Places panel).

Here's my point: Dolphin already knows the name of the innermost folder, which
would make a far better label than the full path. If I right-click on the path
and select Properties, up comes the Properties dialog showing the name of the
folder (next to a folder icon), with the rest of the path given below (next to
"Location"). If there were a user-accessible option for the Devices section to
show the same name that is already given in the Properties dialog (when one
exists), that would be a massive usability improvement in many cases.

[plasmashell] [Bug 478422] New: Plasma crashed after hovering taskmanager app icon

2023-12-11 Thread Jakob Petsovits
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478422

Bug ID: 478422
Summary: Plasma crashed after hovering taskmanager app icon
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-crash
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jpe...@petsovits.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Application: plasmashell (5.90.90)
 (Compiled from sources)
Qt Version: 6.6.1
Frameworks Version: 5.247.0
Operating System: Linux 6.6.3-arch1-1 x86_64
Windowing System: Wayland
Distribution: "Arch Linux"
DrKonqi: 5.90.90 [CoredumpBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
Rebuilt all the workspace repos (incl. dependencies) from source today. Last
time I pulled the whole set was perhaps one and a half weeks ago? I did not
notice the crash then, so something probably changed in the meantime.

The crash happens reproducibly for me when simply hovering an application icon
in the taskmanager applet, e.g. Dolphin or Firefox, without the app actually
running at the time of hover. I figure it wants to set up screencasts for the
app/window info popup, and fails, running into this assertion.

The crash itself comes from Q_ASSERT(isInitialized());
in plasma-workspace/libtaskmanager/declarative/screencasting.cpp,
constructor of ScreencastingPrivate which is a QWaylandClientExtensionTemplate
for QtWayland::zkde_screencast_unstable_v1.

That code in particular was introduced in 2022, so it's more likely some kind
of interaction issue.

I'm also aware that my Plasma 6 installation suffers from some kind of
inability to get many or perhaps all KAuth calls successfully working. Root
cause analysis pending. I would not in the least be surprised if this were the
underlying reason for ScreencastingPrivate not being able to initialize. Note
that I nuked my entire build prefix and ~/.cache just to make sure, however I
did not start the entire build from scratch. I'll ask for help regarding my
KAuth issue and see if a potential fix for that will also mitigate this crash.
But again, it wasn't there two weeks ago and the only thing I had going on then
was libtaskmanager not being able to get info from open windows from KWin.

So perhaps not the highest-priority crash, given my setup's deficiencies. But
perhaps libtaskmanager could gracefully disable this functionality instead of
crashing, if the screencasting extension does happen to fail initializing?

The crash can be reproduced every time.

[plasmashell] [Bug 468863] Plasma automatically switching from unoccupied desktops to occupied desktops

2023-12-11 Thread Alex
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468863

Hi, I switched to Arch Linux and the issue disappeared for a while, but now
it's back. I manage my home directory with nix home-manager and my /etc
directory and others with aconfmgr, so I was able to roll back the vast
majority of my files to before the issue happened as well as delete and
regenerate all my ~/.config/*rc files, but none of those things made the issue
go away. I noticed before the issue started happening 24/7 that it would only
happen if I set a splash screen on kde (which doesn't play nicely with i3).
Setting splash screen to "None" repeatedly made the issue go away (although
unfortunately that doesn't work anymore for some reason). Interestingly, even
after the splash screen disappeared, the issue persisted until I logged out and
back in again. Not sure what the deal is there. I figured maybe there was an
urgent window or something, but I dumped the whole x window tree and I don't
see anything marked as urgent. I also tried running plasmashell through
x11trace and I'm seeing some extra stuff happen with _NET_CURRENT_DESKTOP when
I try to switch to an empty workspace, although I couldn't get much useful
information beyond that. I'm willing to put a lot more effort into debugging
this further, but I'm just not sure where to look next. Does anyone have any
ideas?

I experience this bug in any terminal app running under kde. I use konsole
exclusively but it happens in xterm or any other terminal app. It doesn't
happen in xfce or icewm or a virtual console, it only happens under kde and the
change in behavior causes scripts executed in the terminal app to be restricted
to a private shell and this causes the mc shell script to fail. Another
consequence is:

https://packages.ubuntu.com/noble/amd64/libkf5kexiv2-15.0.0/download

Here are the direct download links I used due to https://packages.ubuntu.com/
being often down lately:
https://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/k/kio-extras/kio-extras_23.08.3-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb
https://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/k/kio-extras/kio-extras-data_23.08.3-0ubuntu1_all.deb
https://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/libk/libkf5kexiv2/libkf5kexiv2-15.0.0_23.08.3-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb

Once you have downloaded the three packages (kio-extras, kio-extras-data and
libkf5kexiv2-15.0.0) in the new version you can use "dpkg -i *.deb" to install
them in one batch from a command line.
After installation go to ~/.cache and rename the folder "thumbnails" to
"thumbnails_bak". If you are happy with the result you can erase the folder
later on.

No restart is needed and applications like the file manager Dolphin will
immediately generate new thumbnails. The new thumbnail will not be the embedded
exif thumbnail when it is too small to be used. The criteria applied is that
the exif thumbnail will be used if at least one of the edges is long enough. In
other words, both the width and height of the exif thumbnail need to be
strictly smaller than the target size for the desired thumbnail for the exif
thumbnail to be skipped. The target size of the thumbnail is configurable in
many apps, in Dolphin there is a slider at the bottom right. If you pick a
large enough value there is a good chance that the exif thumbnail will never be
used.

This will not necessarily resolve issues like the wrong orientation of the
thumbnail (https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=160117), especially if the
exif thumbnail comes with a sufficient resolution
(https://bugsfiles.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=156871).

If you have to go back to stock Ubuntu 23.10 for any reason, the packages which
originally come with Ubuntu 23.10 can be downloaded and installed the same way
as the packages from Ubuntu 24.04.
https://packages.ubuntu.com/mantic/amd64/kio-extras/download
https://packages.ubuntu.com/mantic/all/kio-extras-data/download
https://packages.ubuntu.com/mantic/amd64/libkf5kexiv2-15.0.0/download

Here are the direct download links I used due to https://packages.ubuntu.com/
being often down lately:
https://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/k/kio-extras/kio-extras_23.08.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb

https://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/libk/libkf5kexiv2/libkf5kexiv2-15.0.0_23.08.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb

Again, once you have downloaded the three packages (kio-extras, kio-extras-data
and libkf5kexiv2-15.0.0) in the original version you can use "dpkg -i *.deb" to
install them in one batch from a command line.
After installation go to ~/.cache, erase the folder "thumbnails" and rename the
folder "thumbnails_bak" to "thumbnails".

neon's policy is to package qt6 apps when master is qt6 only, thus ark is still
qt5 in unstable. however experimental which builds on top unstable has alpha
qt6 apps including ark. installing the neon-settings-experimental package will
upgrade any qt5 apps installed that have a qt6 variant in the experimental
archive. or manually install the ark deb from

Thanks. That's better than nothing, but not the preferred UI. Left-drag the tab

Confirmed. Additionally, if Sharpness->'Align the brush preview outline to the

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478421

Bug ID: 478421
Summary: The panel disappeared after entering full screen mode
in GNOME Boxes VMs
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.90.0
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux

Recording of panel disappearing when entering full screen mode in GNOME Boxes
QEMU/KVM VM with hardware acceleration enabled

SUMMARY

I booted the Fedora Rawhide/40 KDE Plasma live image
Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-Rawhide-20231211.n.0.iso in GNOME Boxes QEMU/KVM VMs in
a Fedora 39 KDE Plasma host using Plasma 5.27.9 on Wayland. To work around the
VM getting stuck on the Plasma 5.27.80 splash screen as I reported at
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477643 I changed to VT2 by using the
keyboard menu in the top bar of GNOME Boxes and selecting Ctrl+Alt+F2. When I
changed back to VT1, Plasma was shown with the Plasma Welcome program open. I
had GNOME Boxes shown as a maximized window. I entered full screen mode in the
VM by selecting the full screen button in the GNOME Boxes top bar. The
resolution appeared to increase vertically, but the visible area Plasma was
shown in remained the same as in the maximized window. There were black bars at
the top and bottom of the screen where Plasma wasn't shown. The panel
disappeared in full screen mode as a result. There were spice-vdagent errors
repeated in the journal in which it appeared to be trying to connect to mutter
by dbus which was odd.

Dec 11 18:42:07 spice-vdagent[2053]: display: failed to call GetCurrentState
from mutter over DBUS
Dec 11 18:42:07 spice-vdagent[2053]:error message: Cannot invoke method;
proxy is for the well-known name org.gnome.Mutter.DisplayConfig without an
owner, and proxy was constructed with the G_DBUS_PROXY_FLAGS_DO_NOT_AUTO_START
flag
Dec 11 18:42:07 spice-vdagent[2053]: No guest output map, using output index as
display id
Dec 11 18:42:07 kernel: input: spice vdagent tablet as
/devices/virtual/input/input16

This problem happened every time I tried it. I'm attaching a recording of the
problem with these errors shown in Konsole. After I exited full screen mode,
the panel was shown again.

I stopped spice-vdagent with sudo systemctl stop spice-vdagentd.service
spice-vdagentd.socket The problem didn't happen when entering full screen mode
after I stopped spice-vdagentd and those errors didn't occur. spice-vdagent
crashed when I stopped it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Boot a Fedora 39 KDE Plasma installation updated to 2023-12-11 with
updates-testing enabled
2. Log in to Plasma 5.27.9 on Wayland
3. Start Konsole
4. Install GNOME Boxes if it isn't already with sudo dnf install gnome-boxes
5. Download Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-Rawhide-20231211.n.0.iso from
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=2332213
6. Start GNOME Boxes
7. Boot Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-Rawhide-20231211.n.0.iso in a GNOME Boxes
QEMU/KVM VM with 3 GiB RAM, UEFI enabled, and 3D acceleration disabled or
enabled in a maximized window
8. To work around https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477643, switch to VT2 in
GNOME boxes via the keyboard menu Ctrl+Alt+F2 and back to VT1 with Ctrl+Alt+F1
9. Enter full screen mode in GNOME Boxes by selecting the full screen button in
its top bar

OBSERVED RESULT
The panel disappeared after entering full screen mode in GNOME Boxes VMs

EXPECTED RESULT
The panel should've remained visible after entering full screen mode

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora Rawhide/40
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.90.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.246.0
Qt Version: 6.6.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This problem didn't happen if I selected full screen mode in GNOME Boxes before
Plasma started, but Plasma froze when exiting full screen mode with some of the
same spice-vdagent errors as I reported at
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478019 The problem didn't happen when
using virt-manager QEMU/KVM VMs with the same image and settings. Plasma
5.27.80 had the problem. I don't think this problem happened with Plasma
5.27.9. The problem might've involved how Plasma interacted with spice-vdagent
in GNOME Boxes specifically.

Confirmed, and not specific to this filter.
After switching filters, trying to change the settings crashes, because the UI
still shows the settings for the previously selected filter instead of the new
one. Switching to a different brush and back again reloads the settings and it
works fine.
This is a regression compared to 5.1.5.

2023-12-11 Thread Nora
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478413

I've tried checking the journalctl while doing an unplug/replug to see if it
produces anymore useful information. Also I'm not sure if this is a new thing
or a different thing, but when the screen locked and I logged back in I no
longer had a panel, I got a notification plasma shell has crashed and offered
me to send a crash report (I did), the panel eventually appeared again but once
again the super key was not working.

Also one more thing to note is when I disconnect the primary monitor I no
longer have a panel on my connected monitor. I don't know if that's intended or
not.

Downside of #2 also: We patched Breeze cursors only for 24px. It won't work if
the user selected a larger cursor size. (Unless we remove the ability to select
cursor size in systemsettings)

About #3: The cursor-shape-v1 protocol would have to scale cursors in kwin
anyway, so the same code can be reused and yield same results. If we are to
continue supporting X11 apps, and if we can't expect all Wayland apps beside
KDE/GTK/Electron to use the cursor-shape-v1 protocol, then we have to
implement this.

It sometimes doesn't work, it seems to work again after interacting with other
windows/screens.

I don't recall having multiple windows open.

I will see if journalctl has some logs and test another device next time I can
repro.

I have an Nvidia gpu but this happens on wayland using the integrated Intel

I am using NetworkManager with no particular configuration. I mainly had this
problem when connected via WiFi and when having no access to the internet. It
happened one time after I killed my session with magic SysRq (AltGr+PrnScr+R
then E then I) which also killed NM and logging right after. It also happens
when I connect to public Wifi with a captive portal before I log in and thus
have no internet connection

[Haruna] [Bug 456482] hardware decoding doesn't work

2023-12-11 Thread bugzilla_noreply

The Haruna flatpak can be launched with vaapi decoding from the terminal with:
"QT_XCB_GL_INTEGRATION="xcb_egl" org.kde.haruna"

Now the next challenge is figuring out how to edit the GUI so that the terminal
isn't needed.
