If I manually lock and unlock before the monitor turns off, I don't see an
issue, no. Also, just to be clear, it's not the system going into
sleep/hibernation, just the monitor turning off.

Yep, it is a single screen desktop.

My pleasure. I should mention something I just noticed: seeing how it behaved
with a single screen, the next time it happened with dual screen (just now) I
tried using notification buttons. They work! So with dual screen, the app
launchers become unresponsive whereas with single screen, the tray is the side
that goes bad... weird.

There are a few different things going on here. To narrow it down, can you use
the default 10pt Noto Sans font, reboot and see if any issues remain? I'd like
to know if there's a chance all these issues are caused by the current choice

Just tested again and I can confirm that it's still broken for me too. However
looking at the Qt patch, it only made it into Qt 6.7, which isn't released yet.
So it looks like this is in fact fixed, just not yet for those of us using

Git commit 2dae07f0769f6e8054cc0facd2c5d27bafaa9e0f by Nate Graham.
Committed on 15/03/2024 at 04:39.
Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'.

Unify default sizes

Right now there are three different sizes for:
- The dialog when invoked from QML
- The dialog when invoked from C++
- The page (which doesn't even matter since its size is based on the
  parent view, but still)

Let's synchronize these to prevent oddness.

The culprit appears to be that the package manager is attempting to install the
ubuntu-pro-client package for some reason, perhaps as a dependency to something
else that's set for upgrade?

sudo aptitude full-upgrade
[sudo] password for [user]:
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  ubuntu-advantage-tools{a} ubuntu-pro-client{a} ubuntu-pro-client-l10n{a}
The following packages will be upgraded:
  python3-update-manager update-manager-core
2 packages upgraded, 3 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 279 kB of archives. After unpacking 1,285 kB will be used.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 neon-ubuntu-advantage-tools : Breaks: ubuntu-advantage-tools but 31.2~22.04 is
to be installed
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

Keep the following packages at their current version:
1) python3-update-manager [1:22.04.18 (now)]
2) ubuntu-advantage-tools [Not Installed]
3) update-manager-core [1:22.04.18 (now)]

Did Ubuntu Pro become a dependency to Update Manager? Seems unlikely but I'm
not too knowledgeable about why it would be pushing the pro client.

Yes. For FFXIV, you can use XIVLauncher, either the main goatcorp version or

For ANY Steam game, you can use a different compatibility tool.
SteamTinkerLaunch, for example. Or Proton-GE, though I don't know if any of

Countering my previous comment. After today's updates (Latest
Arch/Plasma/etc.,), the mouse issues have returned.

The change in elevation in the tactical screen of Xcom WotC via mouse wheel
causes the mouse to jerk across the map in strange ways. Mouse moves then cause
the screen to drag, sometimes in the opposite direction as the mouse move.

It is also happening in Xcom EW on the tactical screen.

Okay, then this only happens with atomic modesetting, even if the same buffer
format is used. There's one last thing that I think could be the cause, and
that's the format modifier. To test that one, just run KWin with

and

If you only want to disable it for the current user, not all users, then this
doesn't need root permission. The desktop file in /usr/share/xdg/autostart can
be copied to ~/.config/autostart, and modified to contain "Hidden=true". This
should prevent it from autostarting.

[Powerdevil] [Bug 483490] No longer possible to set DDC/CI compatible external monitor to 0% brightness using system tray screen brightness slider (limited to 1%)

2024-03-14 Thread NW
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483490

NW changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Resolution|INTENTIONAL |---
 Status|RESOLVED|REPORTED

Reducing the screen brightness is not primarily intended to save battery. It's
primarily intended to adjust the backlight (light output) of the monitor (to
adjust it to the ambient light environment).

And turning down the brightness of an _external_ monitor (which this bug report
is about) would not save battery in the first place.

The contents of the screen also do not become invisible when reducing the
brightness of an external monitor to 0%. Instead, setting it to 0% sets the
backlight to the minimum, without turning it off completely. Which is useful
for dark environments.

The new 1% minimum value is artificially limiting the screen brightness
adjustment range and (artificially) prevents setting the monitor brightness to
the lowest value.

Which means this change is introducing a regression (compared to KDE Plasma
5.27.x) and therefore should be rolled back.

Confirming that the same thing happens to me on EndeavourOS (fully updated). I
worked around it by adding the "Power and Battery" widget to the panel instead
of using the system tray, but this is not an ideal solution.

Copying the shortcut to ~/.local/share/applications/org.kde.dolphin.desktop
overrides the system shortcut, but I guess the problem is underlying, so one
would want to take the override out once a fix is in.

It's interesting because that commit shows the icons were only renamed,
(system-file-manager.svg -> org.kde.dolphin.svg), not much else changed there.
I wonder if there's a separate Plasma icon theming component that expects the
old names and just isn't catching the new ones. It's also odd that the old
names even work.

Yes. that fixes the problem when it happens.

I also tested with a single screen by disabling the second display, waiting for
idle/shut off plus some extra, then moving the mouse to wake it up. With only
the primary display enabled, the *app launchers* were responding, but the
notification area wasn't. The clock, back to desktop button and system tray
gave no response. It resolved the same way (by messing with windows or
resetting plasma shell).

log out + log in, verify if it works or not, do the same with the

SUMMARY
When built with clang, plasmashell-6.0.2 crashes immediately in kicker (wayland
session).

I managed to get a (probably) useful ASAN run, though I haven't been able to
get a symbolized coredump for some reason.

Building with gcc did not exhibit this issue. I did not try to reproduce with
gcc ASAN or with older clang versions yet, but on first glance it looks like an
out of bounds read?

Backtrace and ASAN output are in attachments.

I'm still having issues.

Latest Nvidia driver (550.54.14-5)
KDE Plasma 6.0.2
Arch Linux 6.7.9-arch1-1
Wayland session

AMD Ryzen 7 4800H + its iGPU running Kwin
GTX 1660 Ti Laptop (Turing)

Laptop screen connected to AMD iGPU and DisplayPort monitor running at 1080P
240Hz (connected to Nvidia GPU).

Glxgears only runs at around 80 FPS. In attachments 167220 and 167221 you can
see CPU load increasing and glxgears framerate dropping depending on which
monitor it is being displayed on.

Mouse cursor movement is also not 240 Hz, or at least there are issues with
frame pacing depending on what is being done on the monitor, I haven't been
able to narrow it down well.

Editing the theme's `colors` file to replace

[Colors:Button]
ForegroundNormal=0,0,0

with

[Colors:Button]
ForegroundNormal=255,255,255

fixes all the previous cases, however it creates new issues with other buttons
(the ones that are always visible and not just on hover) that are now white on
white where they were previously black on white.
