That seems to work. The problem is that it really wasn't obvious (to me at

Beep works on my system, for both alarm windows and notifications.
For notifications, beep is implemented by playing the sound file
/usr/share/sounds/Oxygen-Sys-App-Message.ogg. For windows, beep is implemented
