weston unlike kwin doesn't require Xwayland. If you start weston with xwayland
support, Xwayland is only started on first X application.

So in summary: the greeter freezes whenever an OpenGL compositor is used. This

the crash happens in the old kwin, which you stopped by starting a new. It's a
