Due to the nature > > of the underlying technology, we cannot offer anything better at this point. > > What does "nature of the underlying technology" mean exactly? As explained in my comments above, we have switched from what you presumably link in your screenshots to Qt's solution, which was set to contain all the features you want, but so far it doesn't. Also as noted above, KDE is fully aware of this issue and we are fully aware what the options were before, you don't need to link them to us, really. At this point it's a resources problem, projects are understaffed and more pressing issues are being worked on. Finally, the solution is NOT easy. This WILL have to go into Qt itself and that means support for all the platforms Qt supports, which is incredibly complicated and also partly the reason why it's not done yet. That said, no need to comment on this further, we know about this issue and there's nothing that we're able do about this for now, sorry. Simply adding the same comments over and over won't magically solve it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=345378 --- Comment #44 from Martin Klapetek --- Sure, now how would you make every single Qt app out there know which &format to pass there so that they all display the same date format? Well, you wouldn't because this problem is non-trivial. But you're of course welcome to do your research and then propose a Qt patch that would allow to set custom System Locale formats for datetime. Believe me, if it was that simple, it would have been done already. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 345378] No option in Digital Clock to use 24 hour format
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=345378 --- Comment #46 from Martin Klapetek --- > I don't understand what is so complicated about it. Exactly. We're talking about a system-wide setting that will automatically be applied to /all/ Qt applications, not on per application basis. And ideally should also include GTK apps but that's for bonus points. But please, by all means, Qt is opensource, don't let me stop you from submitting a patch that will provide an easy way to customize your system datetime format and thus fix this properly for everybody. There's no point you arguing your way with me here, this is an issue that needs to be solved in Qt and I'm not a Qt developer and I won't solve it here for you. When we made the decision, we were told that QLocale would get all the nice features that we've had in KDE4, however that did not happen as of yet. This fix needs to go into Qt; some sort of plan exists on how to possibly implement that but noone contributed it yet. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378404 Bug ID: 378404 Summary: Turn off screen when PM-inhibiting app is not the active app Product: Powerdevil Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-de...@kde.org Reporter: mklape...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- A scenario: I'm listening to music from YouTube playing in Chromium while writing some code on my battery-only laptop. I leave my laptop for a little while and when I come back, the backlight is still full on and the music is still playing. It made me realize that while I was gone, the screen could have turned itself off while the music could keep playing like normal. In other words, if an application is inhibiting the power management and thus preventing the laptop to go to sleep, it could at least let the screen turn itself off when the inhibiting app isn't the current active app. If I'm listening to music and the app is not in the foreground (ie. I am not watching it on the screen), then it should be ok to turn the screen off in the predefined timeout during inactivity but still prevent going to sleep. This would allow for a nice battery-saving media playback with Plasma. I think we're pretty much in the same boat but opposite streams - we'd prefer to keep using the Qt daemon and Qt libraries, rather. For us it's much easier to work with and also fix bugs in a Qt codebase, which is our primary language after all. I agree that the Canonical situation is a very unfortunate one but given that the Qt daemon is working well for our needs, I don't really see the need to switch techs. My understanding is that GSignond is not actually compatible with the Signond, is that correct? If that's the case, I would really wish that these two are brought together more closer, to be compatible and interchangeable. [plasmashell] [Bug 366188] Bad exception handling when the kholidays QML module isn't installed
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=366188 Martin Klapetek changed: What|Removed |Added Status|UNCONFIRMED |CONFIRMED Ever confirmed|0 |1 --- Comment #2 from Martin Klapetek --- No; the system is a bit more complicated. Plasma-framework, which has the calendar backend and the events backend, depends on KF5::CalendarEvents, which is part of KDeclarative. Plasma-workspace then has a plugin based on KHolidays that is being loaded by that Plasma-framework code. The actual error from the screenshot comes from KHoliday I believe, which has declarative imports that the plugin in Plasma-workspace uses. I would advise to file a bug against Kubuntu packaging and at the same time add a required version of KHolidays in -workspace, which seems to be missing. On a side note, KHolidays is now in this strange limbo where it is a framework that is being released with applications, so the versioning might be a bit weird. Finally, Simon, for future reference, please always attach screenshots directly to bugzilla or at least include the text of the error here, so that we know what this is about in case the image is taken down from a 3rd party site. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=366608 Martin Klapetek changed: What|Removed |Added CC||mklape...@kde.org --- Comment #7 from Martin Klapetek --- I think better use-case is volume controls - if you play a music and your volume is too high and you don't realize, the panicky solution is always hit the volume down key. Now pressing that down and holding it down should imho continuously lower the volume rather than having the finger pressed down, realizing this doesn't do much and you need to press it repeatedly.
