2023-11-21 Thread Munzir Taha
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465464

It seems Google noticed this bug so they fixed their website by adding Arabic
glyphs to their "Youtube Sans" ;)

So, here is another example:

https://quran.ksu.edu.sa/tafseer/katheer/sura52-aya35.html

On the above page, the Arabic text, especially, the one on the greenish
background looks blurry because it's using a faux bold instead of the available
bold of "KFGQPC Uthmanic Script HAFS" font.

I just found the bug is related to me making nushell a default. It's actually
not restricted to Arabic. If I create a folder with a name that ends in space,
I get the same issue.

Create a folder named 'F ' with a trailing space. Trying to open it dolphin
shows
The file or folder /tmp/F does not exist.
The space is not passed as part of the name. There is no problem using nushell
from the terminal to access the folder, so I guess, the bug lies in dolphin
integration to shells

the folder name is brief. If the folder name is around 80+ characters, dolphin

Exactly, what I meant by mentioning *monitor* not working. So, to summarize:

1. balooctl index should obey the config files or there should be another
command to do that.
2. If balooctl montor only shows files when "content indexing" is requested. It
shouldn't differentiate between manually and automatically. Though I don't see
the reason why not monitor basic indexing too.
3. Allow content indexing per file type, so one can enable it for audio and
video but not for text or documents as an example.

SUMMARY
Searching for metadata is very useful and many would prefer having it but not
necessarily have their whole documents contents indexed fully

Example:

baloosearch "type:Audio" "Duration>300"
would show no result unless I enabled "Also index file content" which would
index my 1TB documents in the folder that contains the Audio files

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. uncheck "Also index file content"
2. baloosearch "type:Audio" "Duration>1"

OBSERVED RESULT
No results shown

EXPECTED RESULT
There should be a way to disable indexing file content but still enable
metadata lookup

2020-10-20 Thread Munzir Taha
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428034

Bug ID: 428034
Summary: "Align Left" in Krita keeps the text right-aligned for
Arabic (RTL)
   Product: krita
   Version: 4.4.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Tool/Text
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: munzirt...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Left and Right has the same meaning for Arabic as other languages. However,
"Align Left" in Krita keeps the text aligned right for Arabic (RTL). Krita
chose to use SVG's attribute text-anchor:start instead of text-anchor:left when
left is explicitly chosen. The same applies for right. text-anchor:start only
makes sense when no alignment explicitly chosen.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Choose SVG Text Tool.
2. Type Arabic text. (Result: text is right-aligned which is correct).
3. Click the "Align Left" button. (Result: Nothing changed where it should
left-align).

OBSERVED RESULT
Text is right-aligned

EXPECTED RESULT
Text should be left-aligned after clicking "Align Left"

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.74
Qt Version: 5.15.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Calligra Words does the alignment correctly so it can be used as a reference.

You misunderstood my comment. I am the first to reply and say not to treat

reason. It saves tremendous time and this is the norm in other OS's. May be

I want to show the glyphs on a specific font, tried kcharselect and couldn't
find a way to do it. Tried fontforge and gucharmap and they both fail in
KDE/wayland. Booted into X.org and found in gucharmap there is an option

View -> Show only glyphs from this font

I will live in KDE/X till life outside is better ;)

[systemsettings] [Bug 416618] Allow selection of default torrent client

2020-02-18 Thread Munzir Taha
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=416618

Default Applications in my humble opinion has its use.

E.g. if it handled media type with many subtypes. You have **Audio Player**
there and instead of going manually and setting the default application for
each one of aac, ac3, amr-wb, amr, flac, midi, mp2, mp3, ogg, realaudio, ...
from `File Associations`, or by right-clicking each one of those types, it's a
one-click away.

The same applies for **Video Player**, **Image Viewer**, ...

Does that make sense?

May I ask why not just right-click any .torrent file -> Open With, choose the
preferred app and "Remember application association..."?

Or you will have to do this for a lot of file extensions and mime types.

After Albert explanation, I don't see a reason this bug should be open here.
Actually after knowing that
1. It's now deprecated officially
2. It's an 1600 pp of proprietary format

I would go and close my bug at poppler too,
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/issues/364

It wasn't deprecated officially when I filed mine. Even if there is enough
money and resources we shouldn't bring the dead to life again. Let it die with
peace for free.

This is needed when okular view mode is set to facing pages. If a PDF file
contains the PageDirection R2L, okular should default to display it in a right
to left reading direction without a need to enable the option from the
settings. Acrobat reader already does that.

wayland even after nvidia-utils at

In dolphin, right-clicking a file name and choosing rename would highlight the
part of the filename before the dot and keeps the extension intact. However, if
the filename is Arabic with some diacritics, each diacritic would cause part of
the extension to be highlighted. e.g. If the filename is:
اِسْمُهُ.mp3
and you try to rename it, the whole name would be highlighted including the
extension.

Created attachment 96132
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=96132=edit
journalctl -b output

Yes, it works when I test with the new user switcher plasmoid. I created a
completely new user and tested again and nothing happen when I do it from
K -> Leave -> New Session
I am attaching the whole journalctl -b log in case you can figure out
something.
